Blackpool and The Fylde College adult learning courses rated 'outstanding'
An "outstanding" report for a college's adult learning programmes has been described as a significant boost ahead of work to build a multiversity.Construction of the £65m campus in Blackpool is set to start later this year, with it due to open in 2027.The council-led development will be run by Blackpool and The Fylde College, which has just been rated as "good" by Ofsted, with four areas of its work highlighted as "outstanding" by inspectors.The college's chief executive Alun Francis said it was "particularly pleasing that our adult learning programmes are rated as outstanding - it confirms the strong foundation for future success with our landmark multiversity project".
The campus - to be known as University Centre Blackpool - will be called a multiversity due to it having the capacity to teach various disciplines.Inspectors gave Blackpool and The Fylde College, whose main campus is on Ashfield Road in Bispham, a glowing report.The behaviour of students and apprentices was described as "exemplary".The report said: "Tutors encourage them to emulate high, professional standards. "Students in hospitality, uniformed public services and maritime wear their uniforms with dignity and pride."An inspection team visited all areas of the college over four days in February to examine teaching, learning and the student experience.Within the overall "good" rating were four "outstanding" categories: behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and adult learning programmes.
'High-quality teaching'
Mr Francis said: "This report is a tremendous recognition of the hard work and commitment by our staff, governors, students and their parents – and they should all feel very proud."Ofsted confirms that significant progress is being made across all aspects of our provision and we're delighted to have upgraded our ratings in five of the eight areas assessed."He said the multiversity would offer "exciting new and flexible pathways to higher education and employment when it opens in 2027".The report highlighted the dedication of staff in supporting students and apprentices who "thoroughly enjoy their education and training" with high-quality teaching that equips them with valuable skills for their futures.For the first time, the college's contribution to meeting skills needs was assessed.Through close partnerships with employers like the NHS and BAE Systems, the college has designed a curriculum that directly responds to employers' demands, it said.Inspectors awarded the college the highest-possible rating for this work.

'This is important because in the last couple of years it's been tough for businesses on the high street. So, to have support from the local community is fantastic.' (Image: Emma Doyle) Mrs Doyle was informed via email that she was nominated for the award, before a panel of judges looked at her business, including her reviews. She will attend Ashton Gate Football Stadium in Bristol next month to attend an award ceremony and receive the accolade in person. Mrs Doyle continued: 'We have supplied products for the Royal Family and received an award from Theo Paphitis from Dragons Den. But this award has been the icing on the cake. 'We just want to keep building our customer base. We still have so many people coming in who didn't realise we were here. 'We are a family business. My husband chips in, as do my children. My mum and dad also get involved. We even offer sowing workshops." The business creates its own brand of textile products. The business has recently reopened its basement following a yearlong renovation project, which is now home to Welsh/locally sourced foodie treats and a pre-loved bookshop. On the fourth floor, Sweet Williams creates its own brand of textile products, which are then supplied to over 200 stockists, helping other independent retailers to grow their presence on the local high street.

Parents are racing to Home Bargains stores for a 'great' £100 item that's been reduced to £25 Home Bargains has impressed parents by reducing a popular £99.99 item to just £24.99. The discount retailer has knocked £75 off the Munchkin Spring 2-in-1 Bouncer and Rocker that parents say they "need" for young children. Shoppers will need to be quick to find the "bargain" that's gone viral on social media. Facebook page Baby Deals UK spotted the offer in stores back in April, and the product is currently out of stock on Home Bargains' website until stocks are replenished. However, a shopper recently spotted the deal in her local store, so shoppers could try their luck at their nearest branch. Sharing the recommendation for parents on TikTok, @emily_campbellx posted a video highlighting the deal earlier this week. She wrote: "Parents run to Home Bargains." Her caption added: "Such a bargain!! If my little one was younger this would've gone straight into my trolley." The product description for the rocker says: "Keep your little one calm and comfy with the Munchkin Spring 2-in-1 Bouncer & Rocker. Emily said: "Ahh there was only one in, I can imagine they'll all sell quite quickly." The Facebook post shared by Baby Deals UK also stirred up lots of interest, with shoppers keen to shop the deal. One response read: "I feel a home bargains trip coming on." Another said: "This is what I want." A third fan replied: "We need to go home bargains."
