OpenAI's content chief says ChatGPT Search is helping newsmakers, reducing reliance on 'ten blue links'
Tom Rubin, OpenAI's chief of IP and content, speaking at the World News Media Congress in Krakow, shared positive insights about artificial intelligence's role in the news industry. He stated that news is quite popular on ChatGPT's search, highlighting how models like ChatGPT help in finding information quickly and with context, compared to traditional search engine results of 'ten blue links.' As reported by Press Gazette, Rubin also described how ChatGPT is now becoming a part of many users' lives, with more than 500 million active users. These comments come at a time when news organisations are partnering with OpenAI, while some have sued the company for allegedly using their content to train its AI models, including those that power its popular chatbot, ChatGPT.

Rubin says that users want fast and conversational responses in a 'conversational and context-aware manner as opposed to the traditional land of an inefficient list of ten blue links.'
For those uninitiated, Search is a new product for the AI giant, with ChatGPT allowing users to search for whatever they like. Now, users can perform searches like, "What did Shah Rukh Khan wear at the Met Gala 2025?" and OpenAI ChatGPT will provide a detailed answer based on what it finds on the internet, pulling from various sources including news articles. These results are contextual answers, and this means, unlike traditional search engines like Google, you may not need to filter through multiple links at all. Tom Rubin On ChatGPT Search's Growth
Regarding ChatGPT's search functionality, Rubin said that while it hasn't been long since Search debuted, it has been able to offer accurate and useful results to users.. He stated that the search tool has become one of the most important features within ChatGPT. Rubin also added that current affairs are a significant part of the ChatGPT experience.
'While search has only been available for a few months, early signs are promising. Clear attribution and links and the resulting clicks that we're driving to publisher sites are trending upward month over month,' Rubin added.
Rubin further described how AI is assisting journalism, stating that the news industry has had to reshape itself continually as technology progressed. He shared that newsrooms are now using ChatGPT to help with the journalism process, and 'enabling journalists to reach audiences where they are.'

Come to office or leave: Google gets tough on work-from-office policy, starts offering voluntary exits
Google has taken a tougher approach towards remote work in the US, asking more employees to return to the office or opt for a voluntary exit package. The company has rolled out a new return-to-office (RTO) rule for teams working in key areas like Core, Marketing, Research, Knowledge & Information (K&I), and Communications. The K&I group includes employees involved in major products such as Google Search, commerce and part of this move, employees who have been working remotely but live within 50 miles of a Google office are being told to switch to a hybrid schedule. This means they must start coming to the office at least three days a week. While Google had already introduced a hybrid work policy in 2022, this new step expands its reach and makes the expectation go along with this, the company is offering a voluntary exit programme to certain US-based employees, according to the internal memo accessed by Business Insider. Those who choose to leave will get a severance package. A spokesperson for Google said this option is being provided to help the company focus on the work ahead, and it's already been tried in other teams with positive The memo, which is shared by a top Google executive, explained that the company is in the middle of an important change, especially with the rise of AI. To keep up with the pace of change, Google wants its teams to be more connected and collaborative, something it believes happens better with in-person voluntary exit is also being positioned as a chance for people who feel less connected to the company's goals to step away, while creating room for others to grow within the organisation. Google has clarified that this is not a round of layoffs, but a way to bring more focus and energy to important the announcement has raised some concerns. In the past, Google has followed similar exit offers with job cuts. In 2023, the company let go of around 12,000 employees globally, and this year too, it carried out smaller rounds of layoffs in teams like Treasury and Business it is not clear how many people will be impacted this time, the message is clear. Google wants more of its staff back in office, and those who are not willing may have the option to walk away.

Ratan Tata's CaratLane makes big move, plans to…, big challenge for Mukesh Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla due to…
Titan Company's CaratLane is targeting higher revenue growth than the previous financial year, over the growing popularity of lower-carat jewellery among younger Indians and plans for new store openings, its CEO told Reuters. Brands like CaratLane and Kalyan Jewellers' Candere are rapidly expanding their offerings of lower-carat jewellery considering a younger demographic that views jewellery more as a fashion accessory than a traditional investment approach. Earlier this year, CaratLane introduced 9-carat jewellery around Valentine's Day, a significant move in a market predominantly dominated by 22-carat gold purchases. Candere plans to open 80 stores in India in the year that started April 1, matching the number of higher-priced Kalyan locations planned for the same period, while larger-sized CaratLane aims to open more than 40 outlets, mostly in smaller cities. As of end-March, CaratLane had 322 stores, making it the second-largest jewellery brand by store count within the Tata Group. The brand contributes about 6% to Titan 's overall revenue. 'Overall growth (in fiscal 2026) … will be no less than what we have done last year,' CaratLane Managing Director Saumen Bhaumik said in an interview after market hours on Friday. In the year ended March 31, CaratLane's topline jumped 24% to 35.83 billion rupees ($418.96 million), with earnings before interest and taxes at 2.96 billion rupees, helping the brand record its best year. Profit for the nascent financial year 'is going to be significantly better', Bhaumik said. In recent months, while soaring gold prices have led many Indians to opt for lightweight, lower-carat jewellery to stay within budget, Bhaumik said CaratLane's average bill value has still inched up by a tenth, aided by new launches. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries also owns the jewelry brand Reliance Jewels . Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairman of Aditya Birla Group, launched a jewellery brand named Indriya in July 2024. Tata's big boost for its jwellery business can challenge these existing players in this sector. (With Inputs From Reuters)
