Ex-Haryana Congress MLA held by ED in ₹1,500-crore money laundering scam
The Enforcement Directorate has apprehended former Haryana Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker from a hotel in the national capital on charges of "cheating" more than 1,500 homebuyers under the Deen Dayal Awas Yojana, news agency PTI reported.
Sikandar Singh, who was arrested by the agency in March last year for allegedly defrauding over 1,500 homebuyers and diverting ₹ 400 crore through fictitious construction expenses in a real estate firm he operated with his father, was seen roaming freely outside a hospital in Rohtak in October - despite ongoing legal proceedings.
In March 2024, Sikandar was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate. After the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected his bail application, he allegedly feigned illness to avoid incarceration. The ED had assumed control of the investigation in 2023, following an FIR filed by the Gurugram police accusing Sikandar and his father of orchestrating a large-scale fraud through their company, Mihira Group.

ED seizes assets, shares worth nearly Rs 26 crore in Noida property scam
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized several properties and assets worth nearly Rs 25.94 crore in a money laundering case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Unnati Fortune Holdings Ltd (UFHL) and its promoters for allegedly duping home buyers and financial institutions. Twelve properties have been seized in Meerut, Noida and Delhi. Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Indore man's ‘rented flat' revelation about Raja Raghuvanshi's ‘killer'
In a fresh twist in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, a property manager in Indore has claimed that accused Vishal Chauhan rented a flat from him just a week after the murder took place in Meghalaya. "Vishal Chauhan met me on May 30 and rented a flat in Dewas Naka for ₹17,000 per month. He signed a contract and also gave a security deposit of ₹34,000. I handed over the keys to him, but I am not sure he or any of his companions came there," Shilom James, a property management firm owner, told PTI. James added that since the building is newly constructed, it lacks CCTV camera surveillance. He also confirmed that he had notified police about the rental soon after learning of Chauhan's involvement in the case. The murder case, which has gripped national attention, began unfolding after Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 while he was on his honeymoon in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills. Raja's body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji) of the East Khasi Hills district on June 2. His wife, Sonam, whom he had married on May 11, earlier confessed to the murder and is now a prime suspect, along with four alleged accomplices: Raj Kushwaha (her alleged boyfriend), Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput. On Wednesday, the court remanded all five key accused, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, to eight days of police custody in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, said police. According to Meghalaya police, the conspiracy to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi was hatched in Indore, shortly before his wedding with Sonam on May 11, and the mastermind is Raj Kushwaha, while the woman had agreed to the plot. Meanwhile, Govind, the brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi (one of the main accused and Raja's wife), has stated that the chain of events "confirms" Sonam's involvement in the case.

In response to the rising communal tensions following reports of desecration of a Hindu temple in Assam's Dhubri district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the police have arrested 38 people. The Assam Chief Minister also issued shoot-at-sight orders in the state's Dhubri district, which borders Bangladesh. During a visit to violence-hit areas, Sarma said the act of throwing a cow's head near a temple should never have occurred and vowed strict action against those responsible. In a post on X, Sharma wrote, 'I visited Dhubri and directed law enforcement officers to follow ZERO tolerance against elements who desecrate our temples, Naamghars and sacred spaces.
