Toronto teen Mboko extends perfect run to reach third round at French Open

PARIS — Toronto's Victoria Mboko extended her dream run at the French Open with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Germany's Eva Lys on Wednesday to reach the third round.
The 18-year-old Canadian hasn't dropped a set through five matches — including three wins in qualifying — and has now posted back-to-back main-draw victories at the tour level for the first time.
She improved her season record to 42-5, with most of those wins coming on the lower-tier ITF circuit, where she's captured five titles.
Ranked No. 120, Mboko will next face Olympic champion and eighth seed Qinwen Zheng of China.
In men's doubles, Montreal's Gabriel Diallo and British partner Jacob Fearnley cruised into the second round with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Colombia's Nicolás Barrientos and India's Rithvik Bollipalli. Diallo is also competing in singles and will face No. 35 Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in the second round.
Fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov, of Richmond Hill, Ont., is scheduled to face Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic in his second-round singles match on Thursday.

Jimenez says 60 per cent of the world's ships are built in China, and BC Ferries did due diligence to make sure it understood the 'technical and delivery and country risks associated with making this decision.' He says there currently no tariffs associated with the import of vessels of this type into Canada and tariff disputes didn't factor into the decision. BC Ferries says it will have its own team of experts on-site at the shipyard throughout construction to provide oversight and quality assurance. Kitchener Rangers members nominated for Canadian Hockey League awards

(Krista Simpson/CTV News) Some familiar faces are getting recognition from the Canadian Hockey League. On Tuesday, the CHL released its list of finalists for ten awards. Kitchener Rangers head coach Jussi Ahokas has been nominated for the Brian Kilrea Coach of the year award, making him the first European to get the node for the honour. Jackson Parsons, the Rangers netminder, is also a contender for Goaltender of the Year. Both nominations come after Ahokas and Parsons were previously recognized by the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Parsons was named the OHL's top overage player while Ahokas earned the OHL's coach of the year award. The CHL will hold an award ceremony on Friday at Delta Hotels Toronto.

Rourke, Beverette and Riders' line earn first CFL weekly honour roll awards

Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke, Montreal Alouettes linebacker Tyrice Beverette and the Saskatchewan Roughriders' offensive line all earned top marks in the CFL's first weekly honour roll. Rourke was the top offensive player with a grade of 90.8 after leading the Lions to a season-opening 31-14 win over the Edmonton Elks. Rourke completed 27-of-36 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns. Beverette earned top defensive player honours with an 85.2 grade. He had four tackles and an interception over 50 total defensive snaps while also recording a 87.7 grade on 23 coverage snaps in Montreal's 28-10 victory over the Toronto Argonauts. Saskatchewan's offensive line had a 67.9 unit grade in the Riders' 31-26 win over the Ottawa Redblacks. Jermarcus Hardrick (72.0), Payton Collins (71.3) and Trevon Tate (69.0) were the top three performers while Hardrick also earned the top individual mark. The CFL honour roll highlights players in nine positions based on data points registered and compiled by Pro Football Focus, an American sports analytics company.
