Take proactive steps to stop athletes from competing in Enhanced Games, says Dr Ramlan
According to Dr Ramlan, a lot of non-professional athletes become waylaid into inactivity because their injury is not properly rehabilitated.
PETALING JAYA: Former National Sports Council (NSC) director-general and Anti-doping Agency of Malaysia (Adamas) head Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz (pic) has urged all the relevant authorities to strongly denounce the Enhanced Games and take proactive steps to prevent local athletes from getting involved in it.
Ramlan said the Games, touted by its organisers as a sporting competition that embraces the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), was a blatant affront to sporting values, national ethics, and athlete welfare.

Having promised fans ahead of the competition that he would try to break the record, Duplantis encouraged the crowd to get behind him from the moment his name was announced at the Swedish capital's Olympic stadium, which was built for the 1912 Games, and they responded by wildly clapping and cheering his every attempt as he cruised through the competition. Kurtis Marschall did his best to put it up to the hometown favourite, but the Australian could only manage a best effort of 5.90 before making three unsuccessful attempts to clear the six-metre mark. That left the field clear for Duplantisas the bar was raised to 6.28 for his world record attempt, and once again, the 25-year-old made it look easy, powering through his run-up before planting his pole and soaring to another world record as the stadium exploded in jubilation. Duplantis sprinted from the landing mat, tearing off his singlet to celebrate his first world record set on Swedish soil with his partner and family. In the women's 400m hurdles, Dutch athlete Femke Bol blazed away over the last 100 metres to win in a season-best time for her of 52.11 seconds, eight-tenths of a second ahead of American Dalilah Muhammad, who came second. Shahidan withdraws from MA elections, backs Karim instead
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has withdrawn from Malaysia Athletics' (MA) elections and will not be defending the president's post. Shahidan dropped the bombshell during the MA annual general meeting today (June 15) at Wisma OCM. Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh, who had also been nominated for president, also withdrew. It is now a straight fight for the president's post between Datuk Mark Ling and Datuk Karim Ibrahim. Shahidan, who had helmed the national body since 2022, said he decided to make way for Karim and focus on other matters. "Although I had a chance of winning, I have decided to withdraw and make way for my friend Datuk Karim who has also offered himself for the position," said Shahidan. "Personally, I feel that I need to focus on one sports association for the time being. I would like to give others the opportunity to bring change in the sport (athletics). "What is important now is that Malaysian athletics continues to move forward. "We have set a high target for the upcoming Thailand Sea Games and I am confident we can achieve it, especially with support from the National Sports Council." Shahidan had previously held the MA president's position between 2006-2012. He is also the current president of Malaysia Aquatics.

Razif Sidek now out of danger, expected to be discharged soon
KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton legend Datuk Razif Sidek is on the mend after being hospitalised with pneumonia, according to his brother, Datuk Rashid Sidek. Razif, who captained Malaysia to the 1992 Thomas Cup title, was admitted on June 11 after experiencing breathing difficulty and was later diagnosed with pneumonia. "He's still in hospital and under observation," Rashid told Timesport on Sunday. "But he's doing much better than when he was first admitted on Wednesday. He needs to finish his course of antibiotics. If all goes well, he could be discharged soon." The 63-year-old had just returned from a short family holiday in Australia. It's believed the cold winter air Down Under may have triggered his illness. Razif and his brother, Datuk Seri Jalani Sidek, were once ranked world No.1. Their illustrious careers included winning the 1982 All England men's doubles title. The pair also made history as Malaysia's first Olympic medallists, claiming bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Games. They bagged two World Championship medals — silver in 1987 (Beijing) and bronze in 1989 (Jakarta). While no longer coaching full-time, Razif remains an influential figure in the local badminton scene and is known for his outspoken takes on national players' performances. His son, Fazriq Razif, is currently part of the national men's doubles squad, partnering Bryan Goonting.
