Iran to hold nationwide funeral for top commanders, scientists killed in war on Saturday

Iran will hold state funerals on Saturday for top military officials and scientists who were killed during the recent 12-day war with 'Israel', state media announced Wednesday. According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the nationwide funeral ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM local time in Tehran (7:30 AM Jordan time), just days after Iran and 'Israel' agreed to a ceasefire. "The national funeral ceremony for... commanders and scientists martyred in the Zionist regime's aggression will be held on Saturday," IRNA reported, referring to the war casualties as martyrs. Among the most senior figures to be honored is Hossein Salami, the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who was killed on June 13, the opening day of the war. IRNA noted that Salami's burial will take place earlier, on Thursday.

Democrats block surprise Trump impeachment vote over Iran strikes

A surprise move to impeach President Donald Trump over his recent military strikes on Iran sparked intense backlash among House Democrats on Tuesday. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) forced a vote on a five-page resolution accusing Trump of violating the Constitution by ordering unilateral strikes on Iranian nuclear sites without congressional approval. Green argued the president "disregarded the doctrine of separation of powers by usurping Congress's power to declare war" and said he had "not one scintilla of regret" for pushing the issue forward. The resolution was swiftly blocked, with 128 Democrats joining Republicans to stop it from advancing. Only 79 Democrats, largely progressives from solidly blue districts, voted to allow the measure to proceed. Behind the scenes, Democratic lawmakers expressed anger and exasperation over what many viewed as a poorly timed and counterproductive move. 'It was a completely unserious and selfish move,' one House Democrat told Axios anonymously. Another said there was 'a lot' of frustration among party members, adding, 'I think you heard it from leadership today, they're frustrated.' 'Most people think it's unhelpful,' a third Democrat said. Leadership figures, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), both voted against Green's measure. The episode highlighted a broader challenge facing House Democrats: balancing grassroots pressure for impeachment with concerns about political fallout among moderate voters. 'It puts people in a difficult situation,' a fourth lawmaker said. 'There are a lot of other things we should be focused on right now,' another added. Some Democrats argued Green's resolution was weaker than other impeachment attempts, including a recent effort by Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) that was similarly unpopular among colleagues. Critics also questioned the legal viability of the resolution. 'We're not even clear the courts would uphold this,' said one Democratic member, pointing to the ongoing constitutional debate over presidential war powers. 'This kind of motion is premature... I just don't think it's ripe.' Still, a small group of Democrats defended the vote as necessary. Rep. Emily Randall (D-Wash.) said, 'My constituents have been calling for articles of impeachment knowing we don't have the votes to pass them. Part of our job is to put things on the record.' Thanedar echoed her sentiment, saying bluntly, 'This president should be impeached.' For his part, Green stood by his decision to force the vote, describing it as a matter of 'conscience.'

Hassan: Life Will Not Stop Due to Crises and Reckless Acts Destabilizing the Region - Jordan News

Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan affirmed on Wednesday that "we remain strong through our leadership, our people, our army, and our security institutions, despite the difficult conditions and crises sweeping the region." اضافة اعلان During a Cabinet session held in Balqa Governorate, Hassan stated, 'We are accustomed to building this nation and forging ahead through the fiercest storms with confidence, guided by the wisdom of our Hashemite leadership and the determination of our honorable people.' He stressed that crises will never be an excuse for the government to halt its responsibilities or fall short in delivering all possible services to the citizens. 'The wheel of life will not stop because of crises and reckless adventures that threaten the security and stability of the region,' Hassan said. 'We are not part of these conflicts or the tragedies they produce—and we will not be.' Hassan reaffirmed that the security of Jordan and Jordanians, and the protection of the country's stability and prosperity, remain above all else. He noted that Jordan has faced exceptional and unprecedented strategic and security challenges for decades—yet these crises have never halted the country's progress. 'They have made us stronger and more united, deepening our commitment to protecting our homeland through the wisdom of our Hashemite leadership, the strength of our internal front, and our ability to avoid the chaos and conflicts that have cost the lives of innocents and led to the collapse of nations and societies.' The Prime Minister remarked, 'The world seems to have forgotten Gaza amid current global developments, despite the fact that the number of innocent civilian casualties there in recent weeks has exceeded those of the Israeli-Iranian conflict and its dangerous regional implications.' He added that 'Israeli brutality and extremism continue against our Palestinian brothers and sisters—in the West Bank, Gaza, Jerusalem, and its holy sites. This brutality must come to an end.' Hassan emphasized that safeguarding the Palestinian people and supporting their resilience on their land remains the central issue in the upcoming phase. He also pointed out that no one has played a greater role in urging the international community to act than His Majesty King Abdullah II has over the past 25 years. The Prime Minister concluded by stating that the only path to resolving the region's crises lies in a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause. Without such a resolution, the region will remain vulnerable to unending conflicts and instability.
