Its recent layoffs have been attributed to a process of reorganization and refocus that was first announced in 2024 by CEO Andrew Wilson.
He said he was: 'leading through an accelerated industry transformation.'
Cliffhanger's closure is the latest in a series of shutdowns and layoffs that have plagued the international video game industry for over two years.
In the Pacific Northwest, impacted companies include Phoenix Labs, Monolith Productions, Rec Room, and Wizards of the Coast's Project Sigil team.
Fans on Reddit have posted about their disappointment and one said: "Wow. Created on 2023, closed in 2025 before releasing your first game.
"Never become a game developer friends."
Another added: "EA did the exact same thing with Ridgeline Games last year. Created in 2022 to create the

"This is disappointing. Really hoping the Iron Man gets a release and is good. Hell at this rate, I'm hoping that the Wolverine gets released" said another user.
One user commentated: "From the outside, EA is such a bizarre company to observe. It's almost like they have absolutely no idea what they want long term."
"Another one bites the dust. The industry is in complete shambles at this point" exclaimed another fan.
And another added: "What a disappointing shambles. Was really looking forward to this."

Disney+ viewers could be slapped with whopping £1,000 fine if they tune into huge new sports boost – don't take the risk
DISNEY+ viewers should be wary of an upcoming boost in sports content that could land them a £1,000 fine just for watching. Earlier this week, the streaming giant announced it had 2 The UEFA Women's Champions League trophy Credit: Getty 2 Being caught without a TV Licence can result in a hefty £1,000 fine Credit: PA Photos It means that from October, fans will be able to watch every match live through their Disney+ subscription - at no extra cost. However, sports fans should be cautious of TV Licensing rules. Households require a TV Licence to watch live content - even through a streaming platform like Disney+. And being caught without a TV Licence can result in a hefty £1,000 fine. READ MORE ON STREAMING On-demand content - shows you can watch at any given moment - don't require the extra fee. It only applies if you tune into live shows and matches. In the days when streaming services hosted exclusively on-demand content, they were safe to use without a TV Licence. But with an increasing number of streamers picking up live TV content, particularly in the realm of sports, the chances of households breaking TV licensing rules has jumped. Most read in Tech Households were given similar warning last year, when Netflix took over rights to WWE with live broadcasts taking place on the app more than ever before. TV Licensing previously reiterated the rules to The Sun in November ahead of Netflix's "A TV Licence is needed to watch live content on streaming services, watch or record a TV programme on any channel and when using BBC iPlayer," a rep said at the time. "Further information is available on the TV Licensing website or via the customer services team, who can help with any queries." The TV Licence fee was recently increased by £5 , jumping from £169.50 previously to £174.50 since April 1. What are the TV Licence rules? Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun, explains : A TV Licence currently costs £169.50. Some people mistakenly believe that you only need a TV Licence if you have a TV or watch BBC channels. You aren't breaking the law if you own a TV without a licence, as long as it's not hooked up to an aerial or other live broadcasting equipment - so you can use it with your PS5 for gaming for example. The basic principle is, that if you are accessing any live broadcast from any channel, whether it be through a TV or online, you must have a TV Licence. If you are recording a live broadcast to watch later, you also need a TV Licence. Watching on-demand content does not require a TV Licence - except if you're watching BBC iPlayer. By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun With most games online these days, tech companies need to maintain quite hefty servers to manage everything. It's no cheap business to operate with millions of gamers across the world. Naturally, people move on, leaving older games behind in the process. There comes a point where it's no longer viable to continue offering server access so studios shut them down. For some games that are entirely online this can render it completely useless. But others may have a way for you to continue playing solo still. You should usually see a prominent notification in the game warning you with instructions on what to do - provided you're still playing the game of course.

Evangeline Lilly reveals facial damage after fainting
Marvel star Evangeline Lilly has revealed an image of her wounded face, recounting that she had a "hole punctured into my face" after she fainted and "fell face first into a boulder". The Canadian actress and author, who is known for her roles in TV series Lost and Marvel films Ant-Man (2015) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), shared photos online that showed a scab above her top lip and marks on her nose and chin. In an Instagram post, she said: "I fainted at the beach. And fell face first into a boulder. "At the hospital, the nurses and doctor went straight into action, more determined to find the cause of my blackout than to stitch up the hole punctured into my face by the rock." The 45-year-old said in a Substack post that she had had fainting spells "since I was a little girl" which had been put down to hypoglycemia, also known as low blood sugar. She also said that she had "blacked out" on the way to the hospital, as well as on the beach. Lilly has also starred in films including comedy White Chicks and two Hobbit films - The Desolation Of Smaug (2013) and The Battle Of The Five Armies (2014).
