'I tried Aldi's new premium skincare line and one £7 cream blew me away'
As a beauty writer and enthusiast, I have noticed that Japanese and Korean inspired skincare is everywhere right now. Which is why it is no surprise Aldi has gotten on the trend.
Available in its Specialbuys aisle today, Thursday, May 1, is the supermarket giant's brand new premium Lacura Spring Skincare Collection that is said to be similar to the beloved Tatcha brand - but at a staggering 90 per cent cheaper.
The luxurious Japanese beauty brand has become a favourite of many of our favourite celebrities, including Love Island star Molly-May Hague and also Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan. However, with prices of up to £67 for one cream, it's not exactly within my budget.
Fortunately, Aldi's own skincare starts as low as £4.99, making it more budget-friendly. But can it deliver good quality results at a lower price point?
That's exactly what I set out to find out, after getting the chance to try out all four products that included two cleansers and two moisturisers. Read on for my full thoughts on each product just below.

Lacura Matcha Gel Wash, 150ml, £4.99
Matcha is everywhere right now, isn't it? If we're not putting it in our Instagram-worthy coffees, then we're putting it on our skin
With benefits that include breakout prevention and hydration, it's understandable why so many of us are incorporating the powerhouse ingredient. And at just £4.99, Aldi's own cleanser is 88 per cent cheaper than Tatcha's The Matcha Cleanse that costs £42.
As for the supermarket's cleanser itself, I loved the gel-to-foam texture that was incredibly soft on the skin, not harsh at all. Although, I will say that you need to use quite a bit to get the formula to foam up to fully cleanse the skin.
Since I suffer from dry skin, I found that the nourishing ingredients such as matcha tea, willow bark and mugwort extracts left my skin feeling refreshed without being stripped off its moisture. It was also fragrance-free, so perfect if you have sensitive skin.
Lacura Rice Cleanser, 150ml, £4.99
Infused with hero ingredients hyaluronic acid and rice ferment filtrate, I had high hopes that this cleanser would live up to its promise of delivering "intense hydration" and "gentle cleansing."
Overall, I felt a little more mixed on this cleanser. The positive was the rich cream-to-foam texture that is powered by rice powder and rice starch. Unlike the Matcha Cleanser, I found a little goes a long way with this one, so the massive 150ml tube should last a while.
The area I was more mixed on was the addition of what felt like 'gritty' beads, making it seem more like an exfoliant overall. While I don't mind an exfoliator, I wasn't keen on the texture overall on my skin.
However, considering it is £36 cheaper than the Tatcha Rice Wash that is priced at £41, you can't complain at the saving you are making.
Lacura Hydrating Aqua Face Cream, 50ml, £6.99
This was the first moisturiser that I managed to try from the new Lacura skincare and, honestly, it blew me away.
Designed for dry and oily skin types, I really appreciated the lightweight texture that literally melted into my skin, leaving it instantly glowing and soft to the touch. It also made a great makeup base, which is another plus.
If you suffer from the dreaded extra shine, you're in luck, as this cream uses matcha tea, rose and water lily to mattify the skin, leaving it looking super smooth. I also happened to really love the scent of this one that was very refreshing, so none of that dreaded artificial, chemical scent you can get with some creams.
It's also worth noting that it is £6.99 and 90 per cent cheaper than Tatcha's £67 The Water Cream that Aldi has compared its own moisturiser to.
Lacura Plumping Cream, 50ml, £6.99
Up last was the Lacura Plumping Cream that has been compared to the iconic Tatcha Dewy Cream (£67) that has been loved by Molly-Mae and more.
Since I can't compare the two, as I have never tried the major brand, I can only go off the Lacura cream, which was fine, but nothing overly special. I'll admit, on opening the tub, I was surprised to be greeted with a thick, purple-hued cream.
Designed to hydrate and soften, I found that, while my skin did feel supple and hydrated, it initially had a 'sticky' feeling to it and it was quite difficult to soak into my skin, leaving it with that 'tacky' sort of feeling before it fully sunk in.
Once the initial feeling wore off, I will say that my skin was left feeling very matte smooth and with a little glow. Also, similar to the Aqua Face Cream, I found I enjoyed the pleasant scent that didn't smell like I had opened a drugstore.
That being said, I am not sure if the initial sticky texture is something I would be keen to use time and time again.
Overall verdict
Let's face it, offering high quality, trendy skincare on a budget is incredibly appealing, isn't it?
Personally, I think Aldi's new Lacura Spring Skincare Collection is going to be another win for the supermarket. While I can't compare it to the pricier Tatcha brand, I can say that all four products will be a staple for anyone looking to prioritise hydration and clean skin.
Not to mention that the super cute packaging looks way more expensive than it actually is.
As for myself, the £6.99 Aqua Face Cream (50ml) was the star of the show, as it managed to blow me away with its lightweight texture that felt refreshing, while leaving me with supple, glowing skin.
Aldi's new Lacura Spring Skincare Collection is available in stores from today, Thursday, May 1. As is the case with all Specialbuys, you'll need to act fast.

Jaffa Cake lovers have complaint at they admit 'something's changed'
McVities Jaffa Cakes first arrived on the scene almost 100 years ago but recent fans of the sweet treat have expressed their disappointment after sampling them and coming to the same conclusion Jaffa Cake fans have shared a common complaint after spotting a 'difference' in the sweet treat's overall taste. The popular McVities snack is a quintessential British favourite. They're made up of a sponge base with a layer of orange flavoured jam topped with dark chocolate. They were first concocted almost 100 years ago, with many supermarkets and stores up and down the country creating their own versions of Jaffa Cakes. For many though, only the original McVities Jaffa Cake will suffice. The trusty treat is often found in the biscuit aisle, though it is legally considered a cake after a 1991 VAT ruling. Recently, one Jaffa Cakes fan picked up a pack in the supermarket after a few years of not having indulged in one. On Reddit, they explained they didn't 'even wait to get home' before opening the box and tucking in. Sadly, they soon regretted their choice, branding them 'dry'. They explained: 'That 'spongey' bit? It's not the same spongey bit I remember growing up. It's like drywall. 'Well, drywall is a bit far, but it ain't no sponge. I had three, just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, and they were all the same.' Once they got home, they offered them out to friends who agreed with their assessment and 'all said the same thing', convinced they're 'just not the same'. They then asked their fellow Reddit users: 'Has something changed? Have false memories allowed me to remember an absolutely supreme experience whilst munching on these delights? Or have they just decided to change the whole recipe to save a few quid?' They added: 'P.S. The absolute kings of the knock-off Jaffas used to be M&S. I don't dare try them now in case they've followed suit and sucked all the moisture out of theirs as well.' In the comments section, people shared their thoughts - and it seems the majority agree. One Reddit user observed: 'I used to think as you get old your taste buds change or you grew bigger but no, they f***ed with the sizes & recipes.' Another claimed: 'Off-brand Jaffa cakes have been superior for a few years now. Aldi ones are pretty good, M&S too'. Someone else complained about the size of Jaffa Cakes: 'They used to be 12 but now 10 in a packet. They have shrunk as I can easily get one in my gob as 20 odd years ago I would struggle. So that's 10 mouthfuls for me.' And another lamented: 'I'm actually starting to get p***ed off with how literally everything in the shops is crap. McVities Jaffa Cakes are a premium brand, if I am buying them I want the premium quality that ought to come with the premium branding. 'But no, I'm paying a premium price for a fancy box containing a worse tasting and smaller product than Aldi own brand. Might try them again in a decade.'

Russell Grant's horoscopes as Capricorn told to step outside of comfort zone
It's Wednesday, June 11, and one star sign prioritises work, while another makes a new work friend. Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20) A change of scenery will do you the world of good. A free spirit like you finds it stifling to stay in the same place or situation for too long. Look into the possibility of travel, either now or later this year. Concentrate on a long-term goal and keep telling yourself that you can and will realise a long-held dream. Taurus (Apr 21 - May 21) A decision you and a small team have reached will be a bold one. It isn't often you are prepared to take a risk but you are confident you have made the right choice. Despite the things that can go wrong, there are significant advantages if they go right which is what you are hoping for. Gemini (May 22 - June 21) A new project or assignment will mean working with someone you hardly know. Once everything is underway, you will develop a strong rapport. An older colleague will offer valuable advice on how you can reach an important objective. Cancer (June 22 - July 23) You're thinking about your health and well-being. If you're hoping to lose some weight, increase your activity levels and make gradual changes to your routine. Nutritious foods and regular exercise will not only boost your energy but will help increase your concentration levels too. Leo (July 24 - Aug 23) Thoughts of work and romance are on your mind although it will be your job that takes the lead in your priorities. Arrange some time this evening to make the most of a chance to be alone with your other half. Embrace this moment; it's where you should be right now. Virgo (Aug 24 - Sept 23) The more flexible you are, the easier you will find it to push through any challenges that arise. There may be some opposition to your ideas but you will find a way to handle this kind of resistance. Your commitment to achieving success enables you to cope under difficult circumstances. Libra (Sept 24 - Oct 23) A close relationship is unpredictable bringing moments of joy and happiness followed by phases of distress. You feel you are on an emotional roller coaster and events today will make you accept the need to take steps to escape this cycle. Scorpio (Oct 24 - Nov 22) Advice should be sought for a property or family dispute. You're relying on someone to keep their promises when this may not happen without legal support. Money that is owed to you may be delayed. You won't want to upset anyone but you need to battle for money or property that is rightfully yours. Sagittarius (Nov 23 - Dec 21) With you having to deal with a difficult partnership problem, this can hold you back from fully supporting other people in your life who are just as important to you. It may be necessary to seek the advice of someone you can trust if you are to sort out a joint issue, soon. Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 20) You're keen to impress higher-ups and yet you are growing weary of putting in so much effort without getting any kind of acknowledgement. Challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone. Put some creative and imaginative thought into routine endeavours. Aquarius (Jan 21 - Feb 19) A situation you had not expected to come across will require some quick thinking. A difficult issue could have been avoided had a friend or colleague admitted to their errors. Instead, others will look to you to assume responsibility for the problems they have caused. Pisces (Feb 20 - Mar 20) Don't listen to someone who seems to like to criticise and this never sounds like constructive criticism to you. Ignore their negative comments and focus on performing your job to the best of your abilities. Your efforts will be recognised and rewarded.
