Strong project pipeline boosts Kerjaya Prospek's outlook for FY25
PETALING JAYA: The market outlook for construction and property player Kerjaya Prospek Group Bhd remains solid after the company reported a 37% jump in net profit on the back of a 40% surge in revenue for the first quarter ended March 31, (1Q25) compared with the same quarter a year ago.
The company also declared a first interim dividend of three sen per share payable on June 30.
Several analysts have raised their target price on the stock following a meeting with Kerjaya's management, which was upbeat on achieving the company's target of RM1.6bil in new projects for this year, supported by year-to-date contract wins of RM870.3mil and an order book of RM4bil.
Kenanga Research, which maintained an 'outperform' call on the stock and revised the target price to RM2.30 from RM2.10, said the company, in partnership with Samsung C&T Corp, expects decisions on three data centre projects worth RM3bil in 3Q25, in addition to listed subsidiary Eastern & Oriental Bhd 's planned launch of property projects worth RM2bil this year.
The research house said the company's property arm can expect its 55%-owned Rivanis redevelopment project located in Butterworth, Penang, to anchor future earnings.
BIMB Research said the higher interim dividend compared with an expected 2.5 sen reflected the management's confidence in its earnings outlook and strong cash position.

Local Yields May Trade Lower On US Optimism
Yields on Malaysian government bonds closed mixed this week, with cautious optimism around global trade and soft US economic data helping to anchor the local fixed-income market. According to Kenanga Research, yields on Malaysian Government Securities (MGS) and Government Investment Issues (GII) moved within a narrow range of -4.2 to +0.9 basis points (bps) across the curve. The benchmark 10-year MGS yield eased 1.6 bps to 3.518% The 10-year GII dipped 0.2 bps to 3.532% Global and Domestic Drivers The slight decline in long-term yields closely followed movements in US Treasuries, which reacted to positive signals in US-China trade negotiations. The improved trade outlook, combined with softer US economic data, has reinforced expectations of an earlier rate cut by the US Federal Reserve. On the domestic front, a modest improvement in Malaysia's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) and continued export growth to African markets have supported confidence in local bonds, contributing to the relatively stable yield environment. Outlook: Stable Yields with Eyes on US Inflation Kenanga expects local bond yields to remain stable in the near term, with upcoming economic data — including industrial production, retail sales, and labour market statistics — likely to guide investor sentiment. However, the research house cautioned that any upside surprise in US inflation data could prompt global bond yields to rise, potentially spilling over into the Malaysian market. Additionally, renewed uncertainty in US tariff policy could reintroduce volatility. 'Investors should stay alert to both domestic data and global developments, especially updates on tariff talks,' Kenanga stated. Related

Ringgit Breaking 4.20 Hinges On Upcoming Economic Data
After a brief dip to 4.26 against the US dollar last Friday, the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) showed resilience this week, trading within the expected 4.23–4.25 range. This recovery was partly attributed to a subdued US Dollar Index (DXY), as reported by Kenanga Research. The US dollar experienced initial pressure following increased US tariffs on steel and aluminum, coupled with threats of a 'revenge tax' from President Donald Trump. Further weakness came from a softer ISM manufacturing print and growing fiscal concerns. However, the greenback later rebounded on stronger JOLTs job openings data and renewed optimism surrounding potential trade talks between the US and China. Despite this rebound, softer ADP private payroll figures and rising jobless claims have signaled potential cracks in the US labor market. Globally, Thursday's European Central Bank (ECB) rate cut had minimal impact on bolstering the USD. The Euro managed to hold its gains amid indications that further easing might be paused soon. Market attention now shifts to tonight's Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) data. A figure below 100,000 new jobs could intensify recession fears and strengthen the case for a US Federal Reserve rate cut. However, markets are likely to await next week's core inflation data, which is anticipated to show a 0.3% month-over-month increase, before making significant moves. Looking ahead, Kenanga Research notes lingering concerns about renewed trade and bond market volatility once the 90-day US reciprocal tariffs pause concludes in July. The trajectory of US-China negotiations will be critical. A breakthrough in these talks could offer the US dollar short-term support, although fiscal-driven term premiums might cap any substantial gains. Domestically, the Ringgit's performance will hinge on upcoming economic indicators. If industrial production (IPI) and retail sales data point to continued economic resilience in Malaysia, the Ringgit could appreciate further. Kenanga Research suggests the Ringgit could potentially test the 4.21–4.24 per US dollar range next week. Technically, the USDMYR currency pair remains neutral, trading close to its 5-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of 4.24. Near-term direction is expected to be guided by trade-related headlines, with immediate support identified at 4.22 and resistance at 4.25. Bintulu Port's 1QFY25 CNP falls 37 per cent y-o-y, disappoints analyst expectations
Analysts guide that Bintulu Port's negative variance was largely due to weaker-than-expected LNG cargo volume due to technical difficulties at the MLNG complex. KUCHING (June 4): Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd's (Bintulu Port) first quarter of financial year 2025 (1QFY25) core net profit (CNP) has fallen by 37 per cent year on year (y-o-y) to RM28.4 million, disappointing analyst expectations. In a results note, the research arm of Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd (Kenanga Research) reported that the group's 1QFY25 results were below expectations as it met only 19 per cent and 18 per cent of theirs and consensus' full-year estimates. They guided that the negative variance was largely due to weaker-than-expected LNG cargo volume due to technical difficulties at the MLNG complex. 'Note that, there was a scheduled major maintenance plant shutdown from April 30 to May 29 at the Petronas MLNG complex which we expect to have severely impacted its 2QFY25 performance,' said the research arm. The technical difficulties caused the group's Bintulu Port to see a two per cent y-o-y drop in revenue while its Samalaju Industrial Port fell by 9 per cent drop due to weaker cargo volume from key customers like Press Metal Holdings Bhd (PMetal) and OMH Ltd (OMH). Its LNG cargo volume was 3.4 per cent y-o-y weaker while its non-LNG grew at a flattish 0.5 per cent as aluminium exports shifted from containers to bulk shipments as well as weaker gateways cargoes from heavy industries in Samalaju Industrial Park due to high ocean freight rates caused by the red sea crisis. Overall, the group's 1QFY25 revenue fell three per cent y-o-y while its CNP fell at a wider 37 per cent as it was exacerbated by a higher effective tax rate of 38.3 per cent compared to 22.7 per cent a year ago. Kenanga Research added that Bintulu Port's declared interim NDPS of 3 sen was also below expectations as it was lower than the 4 sen declared back in 1QFY24. Despite the missed expectations, Kenanga Research believed that the LNG cargo throughput at Bintulu Port will remains table with sustained demand from Japan and South Korea, and stronger demand from China thanks to trade diversion. 'Meanwhile, there has been a pick-up in inbound and outbound cargo volumes at Samalaju Industrial Port from its key customers, such as Press Metal and OM Holdings,' they added. To reflect new lower adjusted forecasts, Kenanga Research maintained their 'market perform' call on the port operator with a lowered sum-of-parts derived target price of RM5.15 which is based on a weighted average cost of capital of 5.5 per cent and terminal growth rate of two per cent.
