This hilarious Harry Potter parody is returning to Dubai this February

What's On05-02-2025

The magic on our screens may have ended a long, long while ago, but Harry Potter fans in Dubai can relive the magic with this parody performance. Know a muggle (non-magical folk) who hasn't jumped on the Hogwarts Express just yet; this is a great opportunity for them to see what all the fuss is about.
An unauthorized Harry Potter experience called Potted Potter is hopping on board the Queen Elizabeth 2 at Mina Port Rashid this month. It takes place across four days, with two shows per day from February 12 to 15. There's an evening show at 7pm and a matinee at 3pm.

No matter what show you pick, all will have the same Harry Potter tickling charm that will have you roaring with laughter. The show is great for children ages six and up, and you don't want to miss it because this Olivier Award-nominated show has been a sell-out across the world.
In total, all eight Harry Potter movies combined would take up a total of 19 hours and 38 minutes. That's a whole day of Harry Potter if you plan on doing a marathon, but in this show here, the Harry Potter series has been condensed into 70 minutes of pure hilarity. And it even includes a real-life game of Quidditch.
The funny show is performed by duo, Scott Hoatson and Joseph Maudsley, who will play all of your favourite Harry Potter characters. There will be endless costumes, brilliant songs, ridiculous props, and even a special appearance from a fire-breathing dragon.
To add to the Harry Potter spirit, Theatre by QE2 will provide all the usual favorites available to purchase – popcorn, ice cream, chocolate bars, grape and hop beverages – and possibly chocolate frogs.
Tickets are priced at Dhs99 for the show at the QE2, and can be purchased here. Flying over to the capital
Stay in Abu Dhabi and don't want to hop on your broom to catch the show? You're in luck because the show will be flying over to the capital the following week. There will be three shows at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation over on Friday, February 21 (8pm) and February 22 (3pm and 8pm).
Tickets are priced at Dhs120 for the show at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation and can be purchased here.

'Harry Potter' series finds its Harry, Ron, and Hermoine

HBO's Harry Potter TV series has officially found its Harry, Ron and Hermione. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will step into the shoes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint to essay the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. "Dear Mr. Potter, Miss Granger, and Mr. Weasley: We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," welcoming the new actors on board, the makers on Instagram wrote. Over 30,000 actors auditioned for the lead roles since HBO launched an open casting call last fall, Variety reported. Speaking about the series, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod in a statement said, "...The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen... It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there." The Harry Potter franchise launched Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint to worldwide fame in the early 2000s, and the HBO series could very well do the same for McLaughlin, Stanton and Stout, who are largely newcomers. McLaughlin acted in Grow, an upcoming comedy starring Nick Frost and Golda Rosheuvel, while Stanton starred as Matilda in Matilda: The Musical on the West End from 2023-2024. Harry Potter will be Stout's first major role. The series also features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. The bestselling books' author, JK Rowling, will act as an executive producer on the show, which HBO has said will be a "faithful adaptation" of her books.

Alexandra Loewy joins Miramax as President of Film

Loewy will work directly with Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman. Miramax has appointed veteran film executive Alexandra Loewy as President of Film, marking her return to the studio where she began her career over two decades ago. Starting out as an assistant in Miramax's New York office, Loewy will now assume a top leadership role at the company, officially stepping into the position on May 27. She will be based in Los Angeles and report directly to Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, according to a report by Deadline. Glickman praised Loewy's appointment, highlighting her distinctive ability to identify standout projects and nurture emerging talent. 'Ali has a rare talent for spotting clutter-busting ideas and breakout filmmakers, pairing sharp creative instincts with real commercial firepower,' he said. 'She's exactly the kind of leader we need to take Miramax's legacy into its next chapter.' Her appointment follows the March hiring of Alix Jaffe, formerly of Village Roadshow, as Miramax's Television President, signaling a broader leadership restructuring at the studio. Prior to joining Miramax, Loewy served for over six years as President of Working Title Films, where she managed the company's Los Angeles office. During her tenure, she was executive producer of Coralie Fargeat's Oscar-nominated The Substance, as well as Nisha Ganatra's The High Note. She also oversaw production on Genie, a Peacock original film directed by Sam Boyd and written by Richard Curtis, featuring Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu. Earlier in her career, Loewy held the role of Senior Vice President of Production & Development at di Bonaventura Pictures. There, she supervised production on the global box office hit The Meg, which grossed over $529m worldwide and led to a sequel. She also developed the action thriller Plane for Lionsgate, starring Gerard Butler. Additional leadership roles included a tenure as Senior Vice President at Global Produce and previous work at Red Wagon, where she played a key role in discovering and developing Veronica Roth's Divergent series before it became a bestselling franchise.
