Ross on Wye man jailed for 16 years after raping woman
A man who "preyed on potential victims" before raping a woman has been jailed for 16 years.Mustafa Ogur, of Brookend Street in Ross on Wye, was found guilty after a trial at Worcester Crown Court and sentenced on Monday.An investigation started after a woman was raped near Three Crosses Road and Springfield Road in Ross on Wye in the early hours of 21 July last year.Police said CCTV showed the 24-year-old preying on others before the attack and witnesses described how he used Google translate on his phone to tell them, "I want to make love to you".
Ogur was arrested and charged with rape and sexual assault four days later.West Mercia Police said when officers entered his home, they discovered him in the shower, having shaved his hair in an attempt to change his appearance and evade being recognised as the suspect.Herefordshire CID Det Insp Ben Pearson said: "It takes such bravery to first report and then talk about such a horrific experience, and I commend the victim, who has shown incredible strength and courage throughout the investigation and trial. "I understand that nothing will ever take away the pain and suffering from such an experience."He added: "I am pleased with the sentencing given to Ogur yesterday. I'm unsure if a person capable of such an evil crime would reflect on the harm he has caused an innocent person, but I do know Ogur is a dangerous individual who will thankfully no longer be amongst our community for some time."Following his sentence in prison, the 24-year-old will remain on extended licence for eight years and be subject to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Firhill Road at around 8.20pm yesterday evening. 2 An eleven-year-old girl was hit by a car on Firhill Road Credit: GOOGLE MAPS The alarm was raised after police received reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a car. An eleven-year-old girl was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in an ambulance for treatment. Her current condition is not yet known. The extent of her injuries is also currently unknown. Cops locked down the road for over five hours to allow collision investigators to conduct inquiries. Photos from the scene show half a dozen police cars swarming the area at around 9pm. A van sat parked in the middle of the road, stopping drivers from accessing the road. Two other police cars were seen in the area into the night as officers stood guard. Blue police tape was also erected around the street, blocking access to the public. The road was reopened again at around 1am this morning. Police say the death of a woman after a medical episode at a property in Rhondda Cynon Taf is unexplained and is being investigated. Officers were called to a property in Pentwyn Court in Penywaun, Hirwaun, on the evening of Monday, June 2 with a report of concerns for a woman who had experienced a medical episode. She was taken to hospital by ambulance where she died a short time later. Police confirmed that a 27-year-old man from Hirwaun was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been bailed pending further inquiries until September 3. Police previously said a 27-year-old man from Hirwaun was assisting with inquiries into the death, which is being treated as an isolated incident.
