ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A lawyer in an Erbil court was left beaten and bloodied after a quarrel with a judge, where he was handed an arrest warrant and briefly detained, a legal official said on Tuesday.
Sihad Abdulkarim Majid visited the Erbil Appellate Court to represent his client for a case but was involved in an altercation 'which resulted in three of the judges' guards beating him inside the room in a very harsh manner and he was left heavily bloodied,' Aram Gardi, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Bar Association, told Rudaw.
He was then handed an arrest warrant and briefly detained with bail set at ten million dinars (about $7,500), according to his father, but was released shortly after.
Gardi said that the association contacted Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed who issued an arrest warrant for the three guards who beat Majid.
'Whatever the lawyer had committed, he should not have been attacked and the problem should have been resolved by law,' Gardi continued, adding that Majid is a member of the Kurdistan Bar Association.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.

A similar operation took place on May 25, when Coalition troops conducted an airdrop with Syrian partners in the eastern desert of Homs, near the administrative border with Deir ez-Zor, targeting ISIS elements in the same region.
