Ohio tornado drill set for Wednesday
(WKBN) — Ohio's annual statewide tornado drill is happening Wednesday. The annual test takes place each year during Severe Weather Awareness Week.
If you hear a siren at 9:50 Wednesday morning or receive a test alert on your phone, don't be alarmed — it's all for Ohio's Statewide Tornado Drill.
The sirens have historically been a way to notify people of a tornado warning. But as technology has changed, so has the way people are notified of weather events.
Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency uses the WENS Notification System, where people can voluntarily sign up to receive alerts. It's also certified through the Integrated Public Alert & Warning System, meaning anyone traveling through the county during a tornado warning will get a push alert on their phone.
'We do have a lot of traffic on 80, on the turnpike, on 11, so people coming through our county a lot,' said John Hickey, Trumbull County EMA director. 'I think it's important that they kind of know what's going on.'
Emergency officials say it's important to use Wednesday's statewide drill as an opportunity to practice a safety plan.'
'Make sure they know what to do if we did have a real situation,' Hickey said.

Iroquois County to retest warning sirens next week after sirens fail to sound
WATSEKA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Iroquois County EMA will be retesting all sirens across the county this upcoming Monday after the normal monthly test didn't go as planned. Coordinator for the county EMA Scott Anderson said in a press release Friday that following the regular monthly test of the warning sirens throughout the county, it was discovered that all the sirens — except for those in Watseka — failed to sound. As a result, all the sirens in the county will be re-tested between 10 a.m. and noon on June 9. NOAA weather radio stations coming back online after planned outage for NWS upgrades Additionally, Anderson said all residents need to remember that outdoor warning sirens are designed to be heard by those that are outside, not necessarily inside buildings or homes. He also recommends a number of other sources people can use to receive real-time warnings, including: NOAA Weather Radio: A national network that broadcasts continuous weather updates from the National Weather Service (NWS). Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA): Sent to mobile phones by authorized government agencies such as NWS. Mobile Weather Apps: These apps provide severe weather alerts and more information. Local Media: Important sources of official storm watch and warning information. Emergency Alert System (EAS): This distributes alerts through a number of different media channels. Emergency siren button ‘accidentally pressed': Macon Co. EMA
MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — An outdoor warning siren sounded in Macon County Sunday night, but officials said it was a false alarm. The Macon County Emergency Management Agency said the outdoor warning siren located at the Long Creek firehouse was activated around 11 p.m. on Sunday. After looking into it though, officials said the activation happened after a control button was accidentally pressed. Cancer survivors get together to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day Now, the Macon County EMA said they are working with the fire department to figure out a way to prevent a similar situation from happening in the future. Free pool passes given out ahead of summer in Lisbon
LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – There's anxiety for warmer weather and pool season — both will come soon. Lisbon demonstrated its desire to dive into summer on Friday. There was a long line to get a free pool pass for the season. The Sadie Van Fossan Pool along Cedar Street is a popular place for cool relief from the summer heat. The passes were on a first come, first served basis. The cost was covered by the Salvation Army. 'It's really exciting,' said Zach Smith, parks committee chairman. 'The village loves the pool. Kids are out for the summer, a lot of things to do here. It's usually filled when it's nice weather.' The pool will open at noon on Monday. Weather delayed it from opening before Memorial Day.
