Chelsea agree to loan Deivid Washington to Santos
Chelsea have agreed to loan striker Deivid Washington to his former club Santos for the 2025 season.
Washington, who was part of the Brazil side which won the Under-20 South America Championship over the weekend, is now expected to play alongside Neymar at Santos to continue his development.
The league season in Brazil starts on March 29 and ends on December 21, but Chelsea have installed a break clause which can be triggered in the English summer. There is also no option to buy included and Santos will pay his salary. There is no loan fee involved.

Washington has made just three substitute appearances for the first team since joining from Santos for €16m (plus €4m in add-ons) in August 2023.
Neymar, 33, agreed to join Santos on a six-month deal after the former Barcelona forward mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Saudi club Al Hilal.
Meanwhile, Kendry Paez has arrived at the club's training base to start a period of acclimatising to European football ahead of officially completing a transfer to Chelsea in the summer.
Chelsea agreed a fee (including add-ons) with Independiente del Valle in 2023 when he was just 16. He cannot formally complete the transfer until he turns 18, with his birthday coming in May.
But FIFA rules do allow him to spend some time at the club beforehand to have a period of adaption, as long as he doesn't play for the club.
This is just the start of his experience and he is expected to remain in Europe rather than go back to play for Independiente del Valle, which is what he has been doing since negotiations were completed.Like Washington, Paez was also at the Under-20 South America Championships. He captained the side at the tournament but they were knocked out in the first group stage.

Barcelona make formal approach to Liverpool for Luis Diaz
Barcelona have made Liverpool winger Luis Diaz their top priority for this summer, with Director of Football Deco maintaining interest in the Colombia international from last summer. Hansi Flick and Deco seemingly believe that he would be a way of strengthening their forward line, and now Barcelona are taking steps to make the deal happen. On Wednesday it was revealed that Liverpool were 'perplexed' by all of the stories emerging about Diaz, having not heard from the player himself, and from Barcelona. However that situation has now changed, according to a report from The Athletic, who say that the Catalan giants have now been in contact with Liverpool. Liverpool reject Luis Diaz approach from Barcelona Their information is that on Wednesday, Barcelona made formal contact with Liverpool regarding Diaz. And were met with an unequivocal response: Diaz is not for sale. They have told Deco that they have no intention of selling a player in Arne Slot's plans for next season. Image via Pere Puntí / Propias Diaz has also received interest from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, and Manchester City last summer. They say that the Saudi pursuit of Bruno Fernandes has 'helped to establish a market value' for Diaz. The same outlet previously noted that Al-Hilal were willing to pay €95m for Fernandes. Contract issues with Luis Diaz Perhaps the chink of light from under the door that has been slammed shut on Barcelona comes from Diaz's contract situation. The 28-year-old has just two years left on his deal, and the report notes that there has been no progress in talks over new one. Nevertheless, David Ornstein has claimed Liverpool are willing to risk losing Diaz as a free agent down the line unless a bid changes their mind. The 'noise' from Barcelona It is no secret that Diaz is one of Barcelona's top targets, and Deco has admitted that he 'likes' Diaz publicly. The line in Catalonia has been that Diaz wants to join the club, and feels his time at Liverpool is over, with Barcelona feeling they can get a deal done for around €70m.

Ben Stokes claims Jacob Bethell comments were ‘twisted to suit an agenda'
Ben Stokes has suggested that his comments hinting at a recall for Jacob Bethell were 'twisted to suit an agenda' and given his strong backing to Ollie Pope. The England captain appeared to suggest that Bethell would make an immediate return to the Test side for the series against India later this summer, saying: 'You put two and two together, you probably know what's going to happen." Advertisement The young left-hander made an impressive start to life at No 3 in New Zealand late last year, but had been absent from the Test against Zimbabwe due to his ongoing participation at the Indian Premier League with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Stokes subsequently clarified, however, that he merely meant that Bethell would return to the wider squad rather than into the XI, with competition for places in the top order fierce. Both Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope, returning to No 3 after taking the wicketkeeping gloves in New Zealand, made excellent hundreds at Trent Bridge to set up a comfortable victory. And Stokes believes his words were contorted to suggest he was placing pressure on Pope. Advertisement 'That was written to suit an agenda that was being said away from what is in the team,' Stokes told the BBC after wrapping up victory inside three days. "I got asked a pretty simple question about Beth. I said put two and two together and he comes back into the squad. But it is unfortunate that you say something and it can get twisted to suit an agenda. Ollie Pope made a hundred at Trent Bridge (Action Images via Reuters) "I made it very clear to Popey the night before this Test that is not the case. He's my vice-captain and he's been incredible for me and the team at No 3. I'm very, very pleased for him that he went out there and played the way that he did." England's first Test against India begins on 20 June at Headingley, by which time Bethell will have long since returned. The Warwickshire batter, who also offers a left-arm spin option, made three half centuries and impressed with his calm and composure after a surprise promotion to No 3 in New Zealand. Pope's ton in Nottingham was his eighth in Tests, all against different opposition. The Surrey batter appears likely to retain his spot for the five-match series against India that headlines the English summer.
