Could the Nets be one of the teams trading picks in 2025 NBA Draft?
The Brooklyn Nets have two days before the 2025 NBA Draft kicks off on Wednesday at Barclays Center, giving the Nets the chance to add young talent to the roster. There have already been three trades before the 2024-25 season officially ended on Sunday with Game 7 of the NBA Finals, but Brooklyn may be just getting started with their activity.
"Two first-round picks have already been traded, and when you talk to league executives, they think there's five, six or seven or more in play," ESPN's Brian Windhorst said during an episode of "Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective" published on Saturday. As of this writing, the 10th, 16th, 23rd, and 59th overall picks have been moved in the three trades that have happened prior to Game 7.

"That doesn't mean they'll be traded, but there's several in play, including one or two [picks] in the top 10, which you don't often see top-10 picks moved," Windhorst continued. As this relates to the Nets, Brooklyn has four picks in the first round, including the eighth overall pick that they are reportedly hoping will get them a player to build around for the future.
Throughout the summer, there have been reports ranging from the Nets looking to use the eighth or 19th overall picks in an effort to move up for a better pick or by acquiring a second pick in the Lottery. Outside of these reports, there hasn't been any indication that Brooklyn is close to achieving either of these goals, but it is safe to assume that the Nets won't be using all of their picks.
Brooklyn has the No. 8, No. 19, No. 26, and No. 27 picks in the first round and all of those new players could put a significant strain on the Nets' player development that has been working hard during the beginning of this rebuild. However, with the Eastern Conference appearing more wide-open than ever before because of all the injuries affecting various playoff teams, Brooklyn may be able to capitalize on unaffected teams looking to take advantage.

Where Wisconsin star John Tonje lands in latest ESPN projection, one week before NBA draft
With just one week remaining until the 2025 NBA draft, ESPN still views Wisconsin star John Tonje as a mid-second-round selection. The outlet released its latest two-round mock draft on Tuesday. The mock specifically slotted Tonje at No. 42 overall to the Sacramento Kings. Advertisement While the All-American wing still appears far from cracking next Wednesday's first round, his draft stock has risen since the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Tonje went off the board at No. 48 in ESPN's initial post-combine projection in mid-May. He has since had several notable predraft workouts, including one with the Kings. At the same time, his draft stock is trending toward the top 40. The former Badger is looking to stick on an NBA roster after experiencing a dramatic rise during his one year with the Badgers. After joining the program as the No. 296-ranked transfer in the 2024 cycle, the 6-foot-5 wing went on to average 19.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, leading Wisconsin to a strong 27-10 record. The former Missouri and Colorado State transfer importantly showed out in the team's biggest games. That included a 41-point performance in a win over then-No. 9 Arizona, 33 in a Thanksgiving tournament win over Pitt, 32 in a statement win at No. 7 Purdue, 31 in a dominant home win over Illinois, 32 in a Big Ten Tournament win over Michigan State and, finally, 37 in the team's NCAA Tournament loss to BYU. For more on what to look for during next week's two-day event, here are Tonje's five best landing spots. The 2025 NBA draft begins with the first round on Wednesday night, broadcast on ABC and ESPN. The second round, when Tonje is likely to be selected, will begin on Thursday, June 26, at 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT., broadcast exclusively on ESPN. Will former Wisconsin star Chucky Hepburn be selected in the 2025 NBA draft?
All-American wing John Tonje isn't the only now-former Badger hoping to hear his name called during the 2025 NBA draft. Former Wisconsin star point guard Chucky Hepburn, who played his final collegiate season at Louisville, is another. Unlike Tonje, who is a clear-cut second-round selection, Hepburn is among a large group of players currently on the outside looking in of two-round mock draft projections. Remember, there will only be 59 selections this year (instead of 60) after the New York Knicks were forced to forfeit their second-round pick. Advertisement More specifically, CBSSports slots Hepburn just outside of its top 59 -- it has the veteran point guard at No. 77 in its latest NBA draft top 100 player ranking. Hepburn's stock is trending positively after a strong performance at the G League Elite Camp last month. He's looking to validate a breakout senior season with the Cardinals, which included 16.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game, plus shooting totals of 43% from the field, 33% from 3 and 84.4% from the free-throw line. Hepburn has worked out for the Toronto Raptors and Charlotte Hornets, according to RookieWire's Cody Taylor. While the 6-foot-2 point guard is currently slotted outside of the draft's two rounds, he appears to be a prime candidate to sign as an undrafted free agent. He'd then need a standout summer league and preseason to play his way onto an NBA roster. Advertisement The former Badger brings a rare combination of excellence on the defensive end and as a floor general to the table. If he can't make an NBA roster immediately out of college, productive seasons in the G League or overseas could lead to a promotion. The NBA draft will be held on Wednesday (first round) and Thursday (second round) of this week. Hepburn appears to have a long shot chance to hear his name called during Thursday's second round. Where Wisconsin star John Tonje lands in CBS' latest NBA draft top 100 player ranking
Wisconsin basketball star wing John Tonje is likely to hear his name called during the 2025 NBA draft later this week. Notably, ESPN's latest mock draft recently slotted the now-former Badger No. 42 overall to the Sacramento Kings. CBSSports forecasts a similar pick range -- it has Tonje at No. 44 in its current ranking of the draft's top 100 prospects. Advertisement The sixth-year senior averaged 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for the Badgers in 2024-25. He reached that point total on 46.5% shooting from the field, 39% from 3 and 91% from the free-throw line. Those tallies earned him First-Team All-America honors from the Wooden Award, a Second-Team All-America selection from nearly every other outlet and a consensus First-Team All-Big Ten selection. There is a question of how Tonje's top-end college production will translate to the NBA level, especially at his older age of 24. Enough NBA teams seem sold on that translation, as the 6-foot-5 wing's draft stock has steadily improved since the season's conclusion. His strong NBA combine performance and several notable workouts played major roles. Tonje is likely to hear his name called on Day 2 of the NBA draft on Thursday. When he does, he'll become the first Badger selected since Johnny Davis went No. 10 overall to the Washington Wizards in 2022, and the second since Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker each went in the first round in 2015.
