PABORUS (2.25 York, nap)
Has won four of his past five starts and can keep his excellent run of form going here. He signed off last season clocking a fast time while winning in good company on the Southwell sand. That was over this trip and he struck on comeback at Thirsk last time out in April. He went through the gears with the minimum of fuss there and could have won by a lot more than the official margin of two lengths. He takes a fair hike in class here but looks well up to it for trainer Ed Bethell who really put himself on the map with a couple of big wins at Royal Ascot last week. With William Buick in the saddle he will take a lot of beating even at Group 3 level.
KIND OF BLUE (2.10 Newcastle, nb)
We'll stick with Wathnan Racing and their speedster in the Chipchase Stakes. He's a proven Group 1 sprinter who needed the run after a long break in France last time. James Fanshawe's flyer looks a cut above these rivals.
PAPPANO (3.15 Newcastle, treble)
Has success on a Northumberland Plate! Jumps legend Willie Mullins is starting to make his mark on the level too and this former Gosden runner will relish this challenge in the big one at Newcastle. He stays and looks on a fair weight.
Templegate's verdicts
NEWCASTLE
1.40
ARAMRAM ran well in the Wokingham last week, finishing like a train after missing the kick.
He's best over this trip and could have more to offer. He's gone well on the all-weather before.
Pocklington goes well here and is best after a break so don't worry about his 311 days off. He looks solid each-way.
Durham Castle is progressive and had a bit up his sleeve when going in at Windsor last time. This trip suits and he's another with tapeta form.
Arctic Thunder came home strongly into second at Haydock on just his second run for Ed Walker and is another to note.
2.10
KIND OF BLUE is a proven Group 1 performer who should be much too good.
He finished last season winning the Champions Sprint at Ascot and can be forgiven his comeback in France last time when missing the break by half a furlong.
He doesn't usually do that and will be much smarter away today.
Ferrous is a classy handicapper who deserves a crack at this level. He won well here last time and is best over today's trip.
Fair Angellica took Listed honours at Salisbury when enjoying the drop to this distance and can hold her own again.
Spycatcher is proven in this grade and is capable of hitting the frame wisely dropping back from seven furlongs.
2.40
CONTACTO went close at Goodwood last time on his first crack at this two-mile trip.
He should come on for that first outing in nine months and he looks capable of better over extreme trips.
Godsend was well backed for the Plate but didn't quite get in.
He's a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver who made it four in a row at Nottingham last time.
This is his toughest assignment yet from another 7lb higher but he'll be right there.
Humble Spark has four Newcastle wins on his CV and stays well. He was far from disgraced in this grade at Haydock last time and looks a player.
Savrola is consistent over slightly shorter trips and went close at Hamilton last time. He's got place claims.
Gibside won over 2m2f at Chester last month and is another serious contender.
3.15
PAPPANO was useful on the level for the Gosdens and can take a step forward on this Flat debut for Irish genius Willie Mullins.
He has gone well in Listed company and looks on a fair weight under Jamie Spencer who can time his run right.
East India Dock hit traffic issues when running a cracker in the Ascot Stakes and the Chester Cup winner looks a real threat.
Zanndabad is a proven stayer from the Tony Martin yard that has won this race before.
He had a nice warm-up for this at The Curragh last time.
Last year's winner Onesmoothoperator has a lot more weight this time but his liking for trip and track can take him into the frame.
Who's Glen was a solid fifth to East India Dock at Chester and has place prospects.
3.45
NATIVE WARRIOR has some smart form over a mile and should enjoy Newcastle's straight over 7f which takes some getting.
He's dropped close to the mark that saw him go close in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last year and he was a solid second at Windsor 33 days ago.
He can have a say in this wide-open contest.
City Walk is interesting despite coming back from 540 days off.
He won the Gosforth Park Cup sprint here but has stamina too and Saeed Bin Suroor should have him ready.
Zip looks a big price considering he was a solid second over course and distance last time. The veteran could easily make the frame again.
Eldrickjones was ahead of him here in May and has gone close in hot company twice since. He's another with an each-way say.
Dosman is back from nine months off and looks on a fair mark with trainer Roger Varian in decent form.
Telemark ran better than seventh suggests at York last time and likes this trip.
YORK
1.55
ARCHIVIST relished this decent ground when scooting in by more than four lengths at Leicester earlier this month.
That was just his second run for William Haggas and he can improve on this handicap debut over an ideal distance.
Cadarn is going the right way and landed back-to-back wins at Redcar before a little break.
He showed good pace on the front end last time and relishes this trip. He looks a big danger under William Buick.
Madame De Sevigne may just be better over seven furlongs but was just edged out over this mile at Nottingham and can't be written off.
Barley may not have been entirely at home on soft ground in the Carlisle Bell on Wednesday after two decent runs on quicker going.
Shamrock Bay has few miles on the clock and has place claims for the Kublers despite going up in class.
2.25
PABORUS is improving with every run and had plenty in hand at Thirsk last time out in April.
That was his first run in six months and he's had another little break since.
This seven-furlong trip on fast ground is ideal and he looked well up to Group 3 standard last time.
William Buick can land a rare win in the Wathnan Racing colours for trainer Ed Bethell who is having a big season.
Lethal Levi was just collared on the line in a Curragh Group 2 last time and has some hot handicaps on his CV.
The slight worry is the extra furlong he tackles today but he'll take some pegging back from the front.
Formal deserves this hike in grade after taking a Listed prize at Epsom's Derby meeting.
She goes on any ground and gets a big weight allowance as a three-year-old filly.
Lake Forest was a good fifth in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot 11 days ago.
He tried to come from a long way back there and this drop in grade will definitely boost his chances.
3.00
JM JUNGLE has a formidable record at York and comes here on the back of winning the red-hot Dash at Epsom last time.
He's up 5lb for that but is in excellent form and should be well drawn in stall four. He can be relied on to go close again.
Habooba went from the front when winning here last month ahead of the tip and the form has been franked. A 6lb rise may not stop him from following up.
Regal Envoy has a brilliant strike-rate for a sprinter and made it five wins from his past six runs at Windsor 19 days ago.
This trip is ideal on any ground and he's in the mix under Oisin Murphy.
Azure Angel clocked a personal best when scoring at Redcar last time.
She had the best of the draw but beat the track record so it was still a good effort.
Squealer has been knocking on the door and was touched off at Doncaster three Saturdays ago. A 3lb rise is fair and he likes quick ground.

I fear the worst for my dear pal Michael Schumacher – if only we could know more about how he is
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MICHAEL Schumacher's former pal says he fears the worst over the F1 legend's condition. Details surrounding the star's health have been kept under lock and key since he suffered a near-fatal ski accident in 2013. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Michael Schumacher pictured in Monza, Italy in 2005 Credit: Getty 4 Schumacher with his wife Corinna in Madonna di Campiglio in 2003 Credit: AFP 4 Richard Hopkins said the F1 legend ghosted him after he shot to fame Credit: SUPPLIED Ex-Red Bull boss Richard Hopkins - who enjoyed regular coffee breaks with Schumacher in the early 1990s - said the lack of information for more than a decade stokes his fears about his condition. Hopkins, Head of Operations at Red Bull from 2013 to 2015, met Schumacher he was a mechanic at McLaren and the F1 great was at Benetton. He watched as Schumacher's career skyrocketed until he retired in 2012 with a joint record seven world titles. But the following year, Schumacher - now 56 - suffered a devastating head injury while skiing on Alpine slopes in France. Protective wife Corinna has not revealed any details about his condition and he has not been seen in public since. And Hopkins says the longer time goes on without an update, the more he fears about the true nature of his health. He told The Sun: "It's a shame and I wish we all knew a bit more. I get it and I understand it, it's very private to them. "But the danger of course is that we all make assumptions of how he is, and probably none of our assumptions are accurate. "We create an assumption that is probably worse and darker than his condition probably is, and then a lot of us look on the bright side and hope it's a lot better than it actually is. "I saw the recent story about him signing a crash helmet, and there's an MS on it. We'd all love to believe he got a pen out the draw and signed it but there was probably some assistance along the way. "I wish we had a better idea, not just me, all of us in motor racing. It's sad because even the 'keep fighting Michael' message has kind of been forgotten. 'But it's life and we all move on. It's very sad that we just don't know and we don't hear from him. It's sad that he doesn't attend races or make public appearances. 'He was an amazing guy, extraordinary character and amazingly successful." Close pal Flavio Briatore, who led Schumacher to his first two titles at Benetton, recently offered a heartbreaking insight into his health. He appeared to confirm Schumacher, who joined Ferrari after Benetton where he won five titles, was bed-bound. What do we know about Schumacher since his accident? MICHAEL Schumacher's life changed forever on December 29, 2013, when a skiing accident left the seven-time F1 champion with a severe brain injury. Since then, his family has protected his privacy, with only a select few remaining in contact with the racing legend. December 29, 2013 - The skiing accident: Schumacher suffers a life-threatening head injury while skiing off-piste in Méribel, France. He falls and hits his head on a rock, causing severe brain trauma despite wearing a helmet. He is airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble, where he undergoes two emergency surgeries. Doctors place him in a medically induced coma to reduce swelling in his brain. January 2014 - Schumacher fights for his life: Schumacher remains in a coma. Doctors describe his condition as 'critical but stable'. His family, led by wife Corinna, remains at his bedside. The world's F1 community rallies behind him, with fans holding vigils outside the hospital. June 2014 - Schumacher brought out of his coma: After nearly six months, Schumacher is brought out of his coma. His family confirms he is no longer in a coma but gives no further health details. He is transferred from Grenoble to a rehabilitation facility in Lausanne, Switzerland. September 2014 - Back home: Schumacher is moved to his family home near Lake Geneva. Corinna announces he will continue his recovery at home, with a dedicated medical team. 2015–2018 - Mystery surrounding his health: Reports suggest Schumacher is receiving round-the-clock medical care at home, costing £50,000 per week. Jean Todt reveals he still visits Schumacher and that they watch F1 races together. May 2017 - German magazine sued by Schumacher's family: The magazine Bunte has to pay Michael Schumacher €50,000 (£42,000) in damages after claiming in 2015 that Schumacher would walk again. The Hamburg regional court determined that the statement was false and infringed upon Schumacher's right to privacy. September 2019 - Schumacher secretly transferred to Paris: French media reports that Schumacher is taken to Paris for stem cell therapy at the Georges-Pompidou Hospital. The procedure is led by renowned surgeon Dr. Philippe Menasché. Details of the treatment remain undisclosed. December 2019 - Manager issues rare statement: Schumacher's longtime manager Sabine Kehm says his condition will remain private. She dismisses speculation and false reports about his health. September 2021 - Netflix documentary 'Schumacher' released: A new Netflix documentary, Schumacher, provides rare insights into his life. Corinna speaks publicly about his condition for the first time, saying: 'Michael is here. Different, but he's here, and that gives us strength.' December 2023 - 10 years since the accident: Schumacher turns 55. The anniversary of his accident is marked by tributes from the F1 world. Jean Todt confirms he still sees Schumacher regularly and describes his visits as 'full of affection'. September 2024 - Daughter Gina's wedding: Gina Schumacher, 27, marries longtime boyfriend Iain Bethke at the family's £27million Majorca villa. Reports claim Schumacher attends the wedding, but close friend Johnny Herbert later calls it 'A1 fake news'. Guests are reportedly required to hand over their phones to prevent leaks. March 2025 - Schumacher becomes a grandfather: Daughter Gina announces arrival of first child with husband Iain Bethke. The pair tied the knot in September 2024. Gina revealed the birth on Instagram and wrote: "Welcome to the world, Millie. Born on March 29th, our hearts are fuller than ever." Briatore told Corriere della Sera: 'If I close my eyes, I see him smiling after a victory. 'I prefer to remember him like that rather than him just lying on a bed.' Hopkins said he used to bump into Corinna but hasn't seen her, or anyone else close to him, since the crash. He added: 'I just haven't crossed paths with them. 'The circle of people close to Michael is very small, Jean Todt, Corrina, Mick, and a few others who spend time with him. 'Everything about Michael's situation is kept private, and those who are close to him, including his nursing team, are bound by an absolute circle of trust. 'I did meet Corinna a couple of times, if only just to say hi and everything else. My interactions with Michael weren't shared with Corinna. 'But even if I did bump into her now, and I asked how Michael was, she would probably just say he's fine. I didn't know her well enough for her to share information with me." What happened to Michael Schumacher? MICHAEL Schumacher's life was hanging by a thread 12 years ago as medics tried desperately to keep him alive after a tragic skiing crash that left him with horrific brain injuries. The F1 legend was given the best possible treatment as he was put into a medically induced coma, had his body temperature lowered and underwent hours of tricky operations on his brain. Back in 2013, the retired seven-time world champion, and his then 14-year-old son set off on the Combe de Saulire ski run in the exclusive French resort of Meribel. Footage from his helmet camera revealed he was not travelling at excessive speed when his skis struck a rock hidden beneath the snow. He catapulted forward 11.5ft and crashed into a boulder head first that split his helmet into two and left him needing to be airlifted to hospital for two life-saving operations. At one point his family were told to brace themselves for the worst case scenario as the situation was much worse than originally believed. At the time, medics said Schumacher was likely to stay in an induced coma for at least 48 hours as his body and mind recovered. But the coma ended up lasting 250 days - more than eight months. After he woke up in June 2014, he was discharged from hospital and sent to his home in Lake Geneva to get further treatment. Since then his wife Corinna and his inner circle of friends have expertly avoided almost anything leaking out about his health status. Only small amounts of information have been released including reports that Schumacher was in a wheelchair but can react to things around him. In 2019, it was said that Schumacher was set to undergo breakthrough stem cell therapy in a bid to regenerate and rebuild his nervous system. Renowned France cardiologist Dr Philippe Menasche, who had operated on him previously, was set to carry out the treatment that would see cells from his heart go to his brain. Following the treatment at the Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris, he was said to be "conscious", although few other details were given about his state. He added: 'If he could be at a race today, I wonder if he would be? I wonder if he would love it today, rocking up at a race track, everyone would love him being there. "But I don't think he would, actually. I think he'd spend more time on other interests, spending more time on a bloody horse than a race track now!" Schumacher retired in 2006 but made a brief comeback for Mercedes from 2010 to 2012. He is widely considered among the best to ever race in the sport. Only small hints have been released about his health since the accident. Briatore's ex-wife, Elisabetta Gregoraci, previously said he doesn't speak but communicates with his eyes. Corinna has also previously said he is now 'different, but here'.

Rangers officially miss out on major summer transfer target as deal ‘100% done'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RUSSELL MARTIN is moving quickly to kickstart his Rangers revolution ahead of the club's crucial Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos next month. The former Southampton and Swansea boss has already brought his old Norwich pal Max Aarons to Rangers on loan for the season, while Lyall Cameron has linked up with his new manager and team-mates after penning his pre-contract from Dundee earlier this year. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Russell Martin has several targets already lined up Credit: PA 2 First summer signing Lyall Cameron arriving at Auchenhowie for his first training session Credit: Kenny Ramsay Martin still wants at least a couple of more bodies in the door before the season officially gets underway in just a matter of weeks. One area he's looking at is a new winger to replace Vaclav Cerny who has returned to his parent club Wolfsburg after spending last season in Glasgow. Martin did have a promising player lined up to take the Czechia international's place in the Gers first team. However, the manager will need to change his plans after seemingly losing out on the race to sign him. The player Martin wanted to sign was Kwame Poku, who was Peterborough United's Player of the Year last term following a standout campaign in EFL League One. He was also named in the division's Team of the Season after he scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 27 league outings. The 23-year-old is out of contract this summer and Rangers were one of the many clubs that expressed interest in signing him. At one stage it looked like Poku had all-but sealed a stunning move north of the border to become one of Martin's firs recruits in Scotland. The ship has since sailed, though, as we told you last week how he was closing in on a switch to Queen's Park Rangers instead. Now transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed the deal is now official and he's set to be unveiled as Julian Stephan's first signing after taking over as boss at Loftus Road this week. Sir Sean Connery's secret £1 MILLION investment in Rangers revealed Delivering the major update on social media, Romano wrote: "🔵⚪️✍🏻 Kwame Poku has signed in as new Queens Park Rangers player right now. All sealed. Deal 100% done. Excellent addition for QPR." It's a major blow for the Light Blues as Martin now has less than a month to land another target before the first Champions League showdown against the Greek giants. Rangers will host the first tie on July 22 and the return leg has been scheduled for the following week on July 30. They face Club Brugge in their first pre-season friendly on Sunday, July 6.
