Rain, thunderstorms forecast for DC military parade
Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Saturday in the nation's capital, where a day of festivities and a military parade are scheduled to celebrate the U.S. Army's 250th birthday — which happens to coincide with President Trump's 79th birthday.
The daylong festivities in Washington will take place mostly on the National Mall, where a fitness event will be held at 9:30 a.m. and a festival will kick off at 11 a.m.
The festival will include meet-and-greet opportunities with soldiers, Army astronauts, NFL representatives and Medal of Honor recipients. The festival will also feature military demonstrators, equipment displays, a cake-cutting ceremony and other activities.
The main event on Saturday — the Army Birthday Parade — will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is saying there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation throughout the day, but heavy rainfall is most likely for the first 90 minutes or so of the parade,
The NWS is forecasting 'showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm,' from 5-8 p.m. Then the forecast transitions to a 'chance of showers and thunderstorms,' from 8-11 p.m.
Earlier in the day — until 2 p.m. — the NWS says there's a 'chance of showers.' And from 2-5 p.m., NWS forecasts 'a chance of showers and thunderstorms.'
The NWS says throughout the day, the sky will be 'mostly cloudy' and the high will near 84 degrees. At night, the forecast is cloudy and the low is around 67 degrees.

By David Shepardson WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The weather is being closely monitored and taken into consideration ahead of the U.S. Army anniversary parade planned for Saturday in Washington, but at this point nothing has changed, the Pentagon said on Friday. Some airlines say the parade could be moved to earlier Saturday or potentially Sunday, which could have a significant impact on flights. A White House spokeswoman said the Army would announce any changes if made. "No matter what, a historic celebration of our military servicemembers will take place," the White House said. The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday it plans to suspend flights at Reagan Washington National Airport from 6 p.m. ET to 9:30 p.m. during the anniversary parade on Saturday. The event is also blocking off a significant section of Washington to vehicle traffic. Major airlines are offering flexibility to travelers. United Airlines said it is offering a travel waiver for Reagan National, as well as adding two additional departures from and two additional arrivals at nearby Washington Dulles International Airport on Saturday. American Airlines said it has "adjusted our schedule during this timeframe, temporarily added larger aircraft at DCA to accommodate more customers at alternative times and issued a travel alert that includes flexibility to travel on a different day or through Washington Dulles and Baltimore Washington at no extra cost." The airport is located less than two miles from the National Mall. The U.S. Army is bringing 6,500 troops into Washington, along with 150 vehicles and 50 aircraft for the celebration. The flyover will include Apache and Black Hawk helicopters along with Chinooks. Older aircraft like the World War Two-era B-25 bomber and P-51 Mustang will also take part. The Washington area is the most heavily restricted airspace in the United States. No drones are permitted in Washington without special FAA approval.

Thunderstorms could put damper on Trump's military parade
Possible thunderstorms are in the forecast for around the time President Donald Trump's Washington, D.C. military parade is scheduled to get underway Saturday. But marchers may catch a break. The event honoring the U.S. Army's 250th birthday, which also falls on Trump's 79th birthday, is scheduled to hit its stride at 6:30 p.m. when tanks, soldiers and military equipment travel the six blocks bisecting the National Mall. That procession will be followed by music and a 9:45 p.m. fireworks display. There will be festivities throughout the day beginning with Defense Secretary and former Fox News host Pete Hegseth honoring fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery at 8:15 a.m. The Nation Weather Services said Friday that morning drizzle could give way to showers between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday followed by a possible thunderstorm. Showers are likely as Saturday night ends. Temperatures will reach a high near 83 degrees. Sunday could begin with a thunderstorm. Accuweather warns thunderstorms could occur Saturday around 4 p.m., then resume around 9 p.m. According to the Weather Channel, the day will start out soggy, but Trump's parade looked like it would play out under cloudy skies and otherwise dry conditions as of Friday afternoon. Overcast skies and lingering wet weather isn't expected to alter the event. Military officials said 6,700 soldiers including 400 troops from the New York Army National Guard's 42nd Infantry Division will march before the President. The event on the ground will also include 28 Abrams tanks, 28 Bradley Fighter Vehicles, 24 horses and eight marching bands. Fifty aircraft including combat helicopters will fly overhead. The Army estimates the celebration's cost, including $14 million in road damage, to be around $45 million. Coinciding with the celebrations in Washington, D.C. will be dozens of nationwide 'No Kings Day' protests meant to counter Trump's 'spectacle meant to look like strength.' Organizers of that demonstration are deliberately avoiding hosting gatherings in the nation's capital. No Kings gatherings will take place in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. The Trump administration has found itself going to battle in the courts this week as the President pushes to deploy National Guard and Marine troops in Los Angeles to challenge anti-immigrant deportation protesters. California officials have called those actions unnecessary and illegal.

How to watch military parade on Trump's birthday
The massive military parade to mark the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary will roll through Washington, D.C., Saturday — coinciding with President Trump's 79th birthday. The military has recommended the Washington Monument Grounds as another viewing point off the direct route.
