2 Outstanding Stocks Under $50 to Buy and Hold Now

Not all great growth stocks come with a sky-high price tag. In fact, some of the most promising companies in today's market are trading for less than $50 per share, demonstrating that investors don't have to break the bank to accumulate long-term wealth. The two stocks on this list have strong fundamentals, attractive valuations, and compelling growth prospects, making them ideal for a buy-and-hold strategy. Let's take a look at two standout picks that provide significant upside potential without a hefty price. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Says 'We Are Heading Towards a World Where AI Will Just Have Unbelievable Context on Your Life' How a Stablecoin Could Absolutely Transform This 'Strong Buy' Dividend King 1 Under-the-Radar AI Stock With 50% Upside Potential Stop Missing Market Moves: Get the FREE Barchart Brief – your midday dose of stock movers, trending sectors, and actionable trade ideas, delivered right to your inbox. Sign Up Now! Valued at a market capitalization of $3.5 billion, Semtech (SMTC) is a chipmaker and connectivity innovator specializing in analog/mixed-signal semiconductors and IoT systems, particularly its LoRa technology. Semtech reported strong first-quarter fiscal year 2026 results, signaling a turning point in the company's post-pandemic transformation. However, SMTC stock is down 32% year-to-date, indicating that now may be a good time to buy shares on the dip. During the Q1 earnings call, CEO Hong Hou emphasized the company's adaptability and resilience in the face of geopolitical uncertainties such as U.S.-China trade tensions and supply-chain volatility. Total revenue for the quarter increased 22% year on year to $251.1 million. Adjusted earnings per share increased to $0.38 as well, up from $0.06 in the prior year quarter. Semtech's infrastructure business outperformed expectations with record revenue of $51.6 million, up 143% year on year. This growth was driven by rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI) workloads and next-generation compute clusters. Notably, CopperEdge, a disruptive active copper cable (ACC) technology designed for AI data centers, contributed to this expansion. Management stated that CopperEdge's production ramp is expected to begin in the latter half of fiscal 2026, positioning it as a significant revenue contributor by year-end. In the firm's Industrial segment, IoT hardware and LoRa drove revenue growth of 24%. LoRa-enabled revenue reached $38.9 million (up 81% year on year), reflecting strong demand from new verticals such as healthcare, wearables, and robotics. The company generated $26.2 million in free cash flow, allowing it to pay down debt by $10 million in the first quarter and an additional $15 million in the second quarter to date. Semtech is developing a multi-pronged growth engine with a strengthened infrastructure pipeline, IoT platforms designed for scale, and an increasing presence in AI-enabling technologies. Analysts predict that Semtech's earnings will rise by 88.6% in fiscal 2026, followed by an additional 29.5% the following fiscal year. Semtech, trading at 24x forward earnings, is a reasonable AI-led growth stock to buy right now. On Wall Street, Semtech stock remains a 'Strong Buy.' Out of the 14 analysts who cover SMTC stock, 10 rate it a 'Strong Buy,' one calls it a 'Moderate Buy," and three suggest a 'Hold" rating. Based on the mean price target of $56.33, Semtech stock has upside potential of 34% from current levels. Plus, the high target price of $68 suggests that shares could rally as much as 62% over the next 12 months. The second stock on this list is Toast (TOST), a cloud-focused tech company that offers an end-to-end platform combining software, hardware, and financial services to help restaurants run more efficiently. Toast stock, valued at $21.1 billion, is up 16.8% year to date, outperforming the 1.9% gain in the broader market. However, the stock is trading 6.5% below its 52-week high, making it an excellent time to buy on a dip. Currently, Toast has 140,000 locations on the platform (up 25% year on year), with an additional 6,000 added in the first quarter of 2025. Annual recurring revenue increased 31% YOY to $1.7 billion. Recurring revenue and rapid customer acquisition lay a solid foundation for long-term growth. Toast is transitioning from investment-driven growth to consistent profitability, which is an ideal scenario for long-term investors. In Q1, GAAP net income stood at $56 million versus a GAAP net loss of $83 million in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted EBITDA climbed from $57 million in the prior-year quarter to $133 million. Free cash flow improved dramatically as well, from -$33 million to $69 million. The company ended the quarter with a healthy balance sheet, sporting no debt and a cash balance of $1 million. Analysts predict that revenue will grow by 20% to 21% per year over the next two years. Earnings could increase by 70% in 2025, then by 31% the following year. TOST stock appears to be overpriced at 46x forward earnings, but this reflects investors' confidence in the company's future growth prospects. Toast integrates seamlessly with restaurant operations, including point-of-sale (POS) and kitchen management, payroll, inventory, loyalty, and analytics. In the POS systems market alone, the company has a 24.4% market share. Priced under $50 per share and combining accelerating recurring revenue, profitability, solid fundamentals, and a long-term business moat, TOST stock is a strong candidate for a buy-and-hold investment strategy. Overall, Wall Street rates Toast stock as a 'Moderate Buy.' Out of the 29 analysts who cover the stock, 13 have given it a 'Strong Buy' rating while one analysts says it is a 'Moderate Buy" and 15 suggest a 'Hold" rating. Based on the mean target price of $44.04, Toast stock has upside potential of 3.6% from current levels. However, the high target price of $52 suggests that the stock could rise more than 22% over the next 12 months. Andrenam, A SpaceX Alumni-Founded Startup, Raises $10 Million in 36 Hours

Andrenam, a startup that uses AI to analyze sonar data from undersea environments, said Monday it raised $10 million in a seed round. The seed round, which was led by First Round Capital with participation from Also Capital, Long Journey, Homebrew, the Colorado School of Mines Venture Fund, and others, closed in just 36 hours. The speed at which the venture raised the money proves just how excited tech leaders are about this new form of defensive innovation, Business Insider says. Don't Miss: Maker of the $60,000 foldable home has 3 factory buildings, 600+ houses built, and big plans to solve housing — Peter Thiel turned $1,700 into $5 billion—now accredited investors are eyeing this software company with similar breakout potential. Learn how you can Andrenam was founded in 2024 by Matej Cernosek, a former SpaceX engineer, and Alex Chu, a former software engineer at real estate platform Qualia. "Our vision is to secure the oceans. We're doing that by building a distributed sensing network — a sonar mesh,' Cernosek told Business Insider. Sonar equipment has long been used to map the ocean and maritime threats, but thus far, the data processing has been done manually. "It's been people in these shacks that have headphones on, looking at a fuzzy screen and analyzing data coming to them in mass,' Cernosek told Business Insider. "We really want to vertically integrate the solution." Up to this point, Andrenam has been purchasing existing hydrophones and pairing them with its new software. However, its ultimate goal is to build its own buoys equipped with its unique technology, which will help lower costs. Trending: Maximize saving for your retirement and cut down on taxes: . To do this, the company intends to grow its current eight-person team, comprised of engineers from SpaceX, Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR), Anduril, and Saronic, into a 16-person unit. More manpower will allow it to develop the machine-learning-powered software more quickly. Meka Asonye, a partner at First Round Capital, told Business Insider that after seeing Andrenam's pitch deck, he hopped on a flight to meet with the team that same weekend. "Oftentimes these early-stage companies are drawing things on a napkin, and they're years and years away from being ready,' he said. 'The Andrenam team is actually deploying stuff off the coast of California, and the technology already works.'Investors like Asonye are drawn to defense tech companies like Andrenam that have potential for both private and public sector customers, Business Insider said. For Cernosek, the motivation to build a defense tech company is much more personal. His family immigrated from former Czechoslovakia during communist rule, finding a better life in the U.S. "We live in the best country in the world, and this country has done very well for my family — my parents came here with $60 in their pocket,' he said. 'I want to build a generational company that will have a massive impact for the United States.' Municipalities tap AI for permitting

This story was originally published on Construction Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Construction Dive newsletter. In order to cut down on long wait times for environmental and building permits, the cities of Los Angeles, Austin, Texas, and Honolulu have turned to artificial intelligence to give their planning departments a boost over the past year, according to the cities. Austin and Los Angeles are using Australia-based Archistar to help expedite permit review, according to official announcements. Austin officially adopted the technology in October 2024 following a three-month pilot, and the city and county of Los Angeles launched the service on April 30, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom's office, following wildfires that devastated the region. In addition, the city of Honolulu plans to speed up the permitting process with the help of these AI-based technical upgrades starting later this year, Mayor Rick Blangiardi told the Honolulu Civil Beat during a June 4 event. These changes come as the federal government, at the behest of President Donald Trump, seeks to change its environmental and federal permitting process with the help of technologies such as artificial intelligence. Austin has begun using Archistar for residential permits, with plans to expand into other areas. There haven't been critical errors or unexpected behaviors from Archistar, a common concern when adopting AI, Stephanie Sanchez, senior public information specialist for the city of Austin, told Construction Dive. At this time, it has only been tested within the residential building plan review permitting process, Sanchez said. In California, Archistar's technology uses computer vision, machine learning and automated rulesets to instantly check designs against local zoning and building codes in the assessment process for building permits, according to the Newsom's office. With it, property owners can pre-check plans before submission to ensure validity and prevent delays. 'We see AI as a powerful support tool that can improve both speed and customer service in our permitting process,' Sanchez wrote in an email to Construction Dive. Newsome signed an executive order on Jan. 12 to expedite the rebuilding process for homes and businesses destroyed by the fires. 'The current pace of issuing permits locally is not meeting the magnitude of the challenge we face,' Newsom said in the news release. Honolulu will use technology developed by Vancouver-based Clariti to guide owners through the permitting process and replace the city's 1990's-era software system, according to the Civil Beat, which pegged the median wait for a commercial job permit at 393 days during the first quarter. Honolulu is also using Chicago-based CivCheck, which will use AI to scan building plans and make sure they're code-compliant.
