A Mother & A Mogul: Victoria Monét Talks A New Creative Journey, Motherhood & More As She Covers BET's IMMERSED May Mothers Issue

Today (May 7th), as part of the media company's 45th anniversary celebration, BET revealed its Mother's Day special cover for IMMERSED, its digital cover series. The digital-first initiative recognizes culture architects, visionaries, and trailblazers who have shaped Black culture and continue to influence global entertainment, music, fashion, and social impact.
May's issue of IMMERSED features Victoria Monét! The three-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and artist was joined by her adorable daughter Hazel Monét. In an exclusive interview with Brande Victorian for IMMERSED, the 36-year-old songwriter opens up about her rise to fame, her forthcoming children's book, and her most important job – motherhood. During the interview, Monét made it a point to thank her tribe for all they've done to help her raise Hazel and all the encouragement and support they've provided. She also mentioned how much she loves that her daughter can be at work with her in a lot of instances. 'I like days like this because she's at work with me, so it's like my heart, it's together. Usually, it's in two places. When I'm at work, it's with her and then when I'm with her, I'm like, 'ah, I've got this work to do.'' said Monét.
The relationship with Hazel was the inspiration behind Monét's upcoming children book, Everywhere You Are, which is set to be released on June 24th. 'The book is really about empowering women or caregivers to feel free to go and do their thing but also know that they gave the message to their children and their loved ones that even when I'm away from you, I still am here with you. It reminds me a lot of God,' Monét stated. ''It's like the message with God is even though you can't see me, I'm still with you, guiding you in your heart. I feel like that's motherhood. It takes on a lot of what you feel with God.'
A new book isn't all the Atlanta native is working on though. When discussing her current and future plans, Victoria shared, 'I'm building an empire — music, movies, skincare, all of it. Beyoncè and RIhanna walked so I could run.'

'In this month's feature interviews, we intentionally spotlight and celebrate mothers and those mothering the next generation as teachers, moguls, creatives, entrepreneurs, and more. Victoria Monét embodies Black excellence, and we are honored to continue this series with her incredible story.'
The next Mother's Day issue of BET IMMERSED will highlight the women of BET Media Group, including Connie Orlando, EVP of Specials, Music Programming, and Music Strategy; Kimberly Paige, EVP and Chief Brand Officer; Robi Reed, Head of Original Programming and Casting; and other company leaders who deliver compelling and entertaining content while also balancing their roles as mothers.
As BET embarks on a year-long celebration of its milestone anniversary, IMMERSED will continue to spotlight luminaries and changemakers who are leaving an indelible mark on entertainment and culture. The series reflects BET's enduring mission to elevate Black creativity and empower the next generation of leaders.

Is Doechii's Oversized Balloon Jacket Summer's Newest Style Trend?
Source: Bryan Bedder / Getty When it comes to commanding the stage, rapper and budding style icon Doechii never misses. However, her May 31 performance at the Samsung Edge in New York didn't just deliver a flawless stage performance but a flawless fit, too. The Florida-born rapper has again gone viral. This time in a statement-making ensemble that blurs the lines between high fashion and hip-hop flair. The fashion girls are talking – and taking notes. The Grammy-winning artist hit the Samsung stage as part of a new partnership with the tech brand. She wore a dramatic balloon-shaped trench coat layered over a crisp white button-down and maroon necktie. Styled by Sam Woolfe, the look was cinched just enough to reveal her tiny waist and mini length to show off her legs. She paired the funky outwear with high beige socks and sharp black stilettos. Adding to her look was makeup and hair for the 'gawds. Her makeup included a silver cut crease, flawless matte skin, and a glossy red lip. Gold hoops and wire-rimmed glasses gave her fit a soft throwback finish, and her signature face tape continues to be that girl. What we love about Doechii's balloon jacket is that it challenges the idea of what summer style is (or should look like). A departure from the typical warm-weather dressing of booty shorts, maxi dresses, and skimpy tops, the 'Anxiety' femcee's fit stood out. Her body was still bodying – and so was her style. Her jacket is also a nod to icons like Andre Leon Talley who always played with proportions by his own rules. Yes, the piece is just that good. If you're thinking about how to tap into the Doechii summer style trend, start with exaggerated outerwear in breathable fabrics. Think unexpected to expected from linen and chambray to seersucker and chiffon. Pair the outerwear with short hemlines or stackable layers that help balance the volume. Source: Bryan Bedder / Getty For those not ready to go bare-legged just yet, layer baggy silhouettes over shorts or bike sets. Add sleek heels or chunky sneakers to stand out and don't be afraid to play with accessories that contrast the drama. Doechii's summer style trend is for the girls who like to put that ish on. Her fashion era continues to evolve —and we're ready for every oversized moment. Monyetta Shaw-Carter's Birthday Hits Different – She's Celebrating Life & Love After A Stage 1 Breast Cancer Battle
Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Today (May 31) isn't just another birthday for Monyetta Shaw-Carter — it's a full-on rebirth. After battling stage 1 breast cancer, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star's special day hits different. She is turning 45 and celebrating with purpose, power, and a whole lot of pink. 'I caught the cancer early, and because of that, I will be here for my kids,' she told People . 'There's nothing more important than getting checked often and early to protect your future. Our health is irreplaceable.' Her diagnosis came after she felt an unusual sensation in her left breast last September. She didn't find a lump but told People she had a strange feeling that something was off. She listened. And that instinct saved her life. 'It was literally like my body was alerting me that something was wrong,' Monyetta said. 'It's so important for me to share this story because I hope to inspire others not to dismiss their gut feeling. Our body speaks to us, and when it does, we have to listen. It can be a matter of life or death.' One month after that self-check, a mammogram confirmed she had stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma. She underwent a lumpectomy in January and completed 16 rounds of radiation by May 2. Now, weeks later, she's bringing her loved ones together for a joyful, pink-powered birthday bash. Her party honors life, resilience, and sisterhood. Monyetta credits her husband, Heath Carter, for being her rock through it all. She also had the support of her ex-fiancé, singer NE-YO, with whom she shares two children. 'NE-YO was just showing up for me in a major way and just always asking and making sure everything was okay,' she recalled in a recent interview. 'He was like, 'Oh, you're gonna beat this.'' Her RHOA circle also showed up with love. Kandi Burruss, Cynthia Bailey, Porsha Williams, Shamea Morton, and Shereé Whitfield all supported. For Monyetta Shaw-Carter, breast cancer is real but not unbeatable. So why not celebrate? As the founder of Keep It Classy Nails , a mother of four, and a businesswoman, she wants Black women everywhere to trust their instincts, take care of themselves, and live on their own terms. 'I'm stepping into this new chapter with deeper gratitude, unstoppable faith, and a whole new glow,' she wrote on Instagram. 'This birthday is more than candles and cake…it's a celebration of life, a reflection of pain & purpose, of healing, and God's grace. I've faced one of the biggest battles of my life… and I WON!!!'
