The Drexel Police Department also seized an AR-15, two pistols, a 30-round magazine, ammunition, a ballistic vest, computers, and other items in Johnson's bedroom.
The search warrant said that a 'source of information' told police that Johnson had a manifesto with plans to commit a school shooting at Drexel Elementary and 'cause as many casualties as possible'.
His family says that a source of information was in jail on other serious charges and they don't believe Johnson would hurt anyone.
Johnson was arrested and charged with communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property.
Channel 9′s Dave Faherty learned parents didn't find out about it until the next day. The school district officials said Drexel police asked them to get permission from law enforcement before releasing any information.
>>At 5 p.m. on Channel 9, Faherty will have more details on these serious accusations.
Johnson is currently in jail.
The State Bureau of Investigation and Morganton Public Safety assisted with the investigation.
The Drexel Police Department also worked with Burke County Public Schools.
This investigation is ongoing.

Arrest made in 2017 Jacksonville cold case, family thanks social media posts

Eight years after a woman was found dead behind a local church, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says her alleged killer is behind bars in the Duval County jail. JSO spotlighted the arrest this week, which brings the case closer to an end. Officials say 39-year-old Rose Greene was found dead on Soutel Drive behind Master's Touch Ministry in June 2017. Percy Johnson, a local registered sex offender with sexual offenses dating back 30 years, was officially charged with Greene's murder in November 2024. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] Greene's daughter, Catherine, said she searched for answers for years, even reaching out to a local Jacksonville social media influencer to spread the news about her mother's cold case. 'We didn't know who did it, so God put it in my heart to just reach out to Chelle,' Catherine said. Chelle Gman is a Jacksonville native who uses her Facebook page to highlight unsolved cases in the community. Catherine and Gman believe the local influencer's Facebook reach of over 25,000 followers may have lead to the arrest. 'A little information here… a piece there… can put together a whole puzzle and you never know who knows what until you ask,' Gman said. While Catherine says she has some closure knowing that someone is finally being held responsible, she says Johnson should have never been on the streets. Action News Jax found records dating back to 1996 of Johnson's arrests in St. Johns and Duval counties. The records show charges of sexual battery, kidnapping, and other similar offenses between 1996 and 2022. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officials say they are working with the State Attorney's Office in this case. Johnson is pleading not guilty. [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Charlotte man accused of trying to sexually assault woman after helping her with groceries

Court records obtained by Channel 9 this week say a man offered to help a woman with her groceries before trying to sexually assault her in her own apartment. It happened last week after the woman got off the bus along Monroe Road. Channel 9 Crime Reporter Hunter Sáenz learned that the woman fought back. Kristopher Davis was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree sexual offense. Police say the victim is a woman who is developmentally disabled. 'I think it always hits home a little bit more when it's someone who we know is especially vulnerable,' said Leanna Pai, who works with survivors at Safe Alliance. The domestic and sexual violence resource center says roughly 80% of women with disabilities say they've been sexually assaulted. That's 40% higher than their non-disabled counterparts. 'Someone who is an abuser or might assault someone can definitely take advantage of physical limitations, or cognitive limitations,' Pai told Sáenz. The victim told police she got off a bus with her groceries and Davis walked up, introduced himself, and insisted on helping her carry her groceries. When they got to her apartment, she told police that Davis insisted on coming inside. When he did, he told her, 'Now I'm going to have oral sex with you,' according to court records. Davis is then accused of 'smacking her twice' and also grabbed for her clothing, court documents say. She told officers she was able to run out screaming, and that got the attention of someone at the leasing office, who came outside -- that spooked off Davis. Police say that when the victim went to get help, Davis ran away. He was later caught and taken into custody and held on a $100,000 secured bond. He was then transferred to another county to face additional charges there. Pai says she wants women to know they have a safe place they can go. Safe Alliance has a 24-hour hope line that survivors can call for support and resources. That number is 980-771-HOPE and it's available in English and Spanish. Syracuse man sentenced to prison after firing loaded rifle at East Syracuse gas station

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — 36-year-old Richard Bradley, of Syracuse, was sentenced to 14 months in prison, as he was convicted of being a felon who was found in possession of a firearm last fall. This stems from an incident back in September 2024 when Manlius Police found him being subdued in an East Syracuse Sunoco parking lot after firing his rifle. At the time, police told NewsChannel 9 that Bradley had fired an AR-15-style rifle while inside his car through the backseat and into the trunk. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, as part of Bradley's guilty plea, he admitted that he had possessed a loaded assault rifle in his vehicle, which was parked at the gas station. 'Bradley inadvertently fired the rifle several times, but did not strike anyone. As a result of his prior felony conviction for criminal mischief, Bradley could not lawfully possess a firearm. Court Judge Glenn Suddaby also imposed a three-year term of supervised release to begin following Bradley's term of imprisonment, and ordered him to forfeit the rifle he possessed. 'When Bradley fired the rifle in the parking lot, he put the lives of everyone at that gas station in danger,' U.S. Attorney Sarcone stated. New York Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Manlius Police Department investigated the case with assistance from the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica N. Carbone prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
