LOS ANGELES - Ain't no party like an LAWorld Series party.
The Los Angeles Dodgers led off their 2025 home opener by celebrating their World Series run from the previous campaign. In Hollywood fashion, they rolled out local legends to get the party started ahead of Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers.

South Central's own Ice Cube pulled up to Dodger Stadium during the pregame festivities with the 2024 World Series trophy.
Those who watched the pregame festivities for Game 2 of the World Series remember Ice Cube's iconic on-field performance. The impromptu concert left Dodger skipper Dave Roberts nodding his head and singing along to "It Was A Good Day" and even opposing outfielder Alex Verdugo was caught enjoying Ice Cube's music, who was explicitly rapping for the Boys in Blue, not the New York Yankees.
Shortly after, Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis re-enacted his now-famous line "Gibby, meet Freddie," in reference to his call during Game 1 of the World Series, which ended in a Freddie Freeman walk-off grand slam that resembled Kirk Gibson's famous home run in the 1988 Fall Classic. Both postseason heroes entered their respective World Series games nursing a serious leg injury.

After Davis delivered his line, Gibson walked onto the field to deliver the ceremonial first pitch to Freeman.

Popular fast-food burger chain aims major comeback amid closures
Nothing is worse than staying up late and getting hungry in the middle of the night, but having nearly no options available. Luckily, many fast-food restaurants are open late or even 24 hours, and most have value meals that make buying food too tempting to pass up. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter However, not many have an entire menu dedicated to late-night munchies. Jack in the Box introduced the first Munchie Meal in 2013 as part of its late-night menu expansion. This offering provided customers with more options packed into a value meal for an affordable price. Related: McDonald's brings back unexpected breakfast item after 6 years This addition also encouraged customers to purchase late-night meals at their local Jack in the Box rather than with the competition, aiming to increase sales during extended hours. Since its debut, the fast-food chain has launched multiple versions of the Munchie Meal and collaborations with top celebrities, including Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg. Jack in the Box (JACK) has partnered with musical artist T-Pain to launch the latest Munchie Meal collaboration. The new T-Pain Munchie Meal includes a Burg-R-Tater Melt or Chick-N-Tater Melt, a taco, medium seasoned curly fries, a Stuffed Cookie, and a small drink. This latest addition also comes with an exclusive collector's edition T-Pain air freshener. If none of the selected items appeal to your taste buds, customers can customize their own with the Build Your Own Munchie Meal, where they can choose any entrée, two sides, and a drink. The T-Pain Munchie Meal is available until July 27 at all Jack in the Box restaurants nationwide and can be ordered via the Jack app or online through the Jack in the Box website. Jack in the Box and T-Pain are rolling out "Jack Zone Wars," a Fortnite gaming experience exclusively made for this collaboration and dedicated to all gamers. Players who order a Munchie Meal on the Jack app can unlock special weapons that will give them an advantage in the game. T-Pain will also host a live-streamed Fortnite event on June 26 to join players. Jack in the Box unveiled its multi-faceted "Jack on Track" plan in April to improve its long-term financial performance by closing around 150 to 200 underperforming restaurants. "Our actions today focus on three main areas: addressing our balance sheet to accelerate cash flow and pay down debt, while preserving growth-oriented capital investments related to technology and restaurant reimage; closing underperforming restaurants to position ourselves for consistent net unit growth and competitive unit economics; and, an overall return to simplicity for the Jack in the Box business model and investor story," said Jack in the Box CEO Lance Tucker in the announcement. Pope Leo XIV rocks White Sox hat at the Vatican in new photos
Pope Leo XIV brought his White Sox fandom to the Vatican on Wednesday. While holding a general audience in St. Peter's Square, the Chicago-bred pontiff was photographed wearing a black White Sox cap as he greeted onlookers, including a bride and groom who appeared to be fellow fans of the AL Central club. Pope Leo XIV's sports allegiances were thrust into the spotlight in May when he made history after being elected the first American pope. He succeeded Pope Francis, who died in April at the age of 88 after a lengthy battle with double pneumonia. 6 Pope Leo XIV was seen wearing a Chicago White Sox hat at the Vatican on June 11, 2025. REUTERS The pope's brother, John Prevost, quickly set the record straight over which Chicago baseball team his sibling preferred amid Cubs chatter. 'He was never ever a Cubs fan, so I don't know where that came from,' Prevost told local Chicago station WGN TV. 'He was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan. I don't know, maybe that clued in there and our dad was a Cardinals fan, so I don't know where all that came from. 'And all the aunts, our mom's family was from the north side, so that's why they were Cubs fans.' 6 Pope Leo XIV waved to onlookers in St. Peter's Square on June 11, 2025. Beyond the White Sox, who lost a record 121 games last season, Pope Leo XIV is also a Villanova Wildcat, having graduated from the university in 1977. Knicks fans were hopeful Pope Leo's Villanova ties would fuel a championship berth with former Wildcats Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges. The Knicks ultimately lost to the Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Iowa baseball reveals 2026 Big Ten schedule
Iowa baseball reveals 2026 Big Ten schedule As Iowa baseball continues its long and winding offseason, the program announced its Big Ten schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, which includes some familiar foes and a few new opponents. Headlining next season's conference schedule are two consecutive road series to open up the slate of games, with the Hawkeyes traveling to State College, Penn., for a three-game series March 13-15 vs. Penn State and then visiting East Lansing, Mich., for another three-game set March 20-22, against Michigan State. Following the two road trips, Iowa returns to Duane Banks Field for two consecutive series, with the first being against 2025 College World Series-bound UCLA from March 27-29 and the second against Minnesota from April 3-5. For the Bruins, it will be the first time the storied program has traveled to Iowa City and the first three-game series between the two. Last season's Big Ten Tournament Semifinal between the Hawkeyes and Bruins was the first-ever meeting between both programs, with UCLA winning 9-3. After the Minnesota series, the Hawkeyes' Big Ten schedule alternates between home and away series for the remainder of the season. Iowa's remaining series on the road will be vs. USC (April 10-12), vs. Indiana (April 24-26), and Nebraska (May 8-10). Of note in those road series is the trip to Los Angeles, Calif., vs. USC, which will be the Hawkeyes' sixth-ever game against the Trojans (USC holds a 3-2 all-time series lead). Conversely, the remaining Hawkeyes' home series will be vs. Maryland (April 17-19), vs. Illinois (May 1-3), and vs. Purdue (May 14-16). While Iowa's conference strength of schedule is yet to be determined, seven of the ten opponents the Hawkeyes face next year made the 2025 Big Ten Tournament, and three qualified for the NCAA Tournament. With the full 2026 slate still in the works, including non-conference dates and opponents, the complete schedule will be released at a later date.
