The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a man identified as Kasim, a resident of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan, on charges of espionage for Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI. Kasim was apprehended from the Deeg area of Mewat in Rajasthan and is currently under police remand.According to officials, Kasim had visited Pakistan twice, once in August 2024 and again in March 2025, staying for about 90 days in total. During these visits, he received espionage training from ISI handlers and senior operatives.advertisementInvestigations revealed that Kasim was sending Indian SIM cards to Pakistan, which were then used by Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) to contact Indians via WhatsApp for gathering sensitive military and government-related information.
Kasim is also alleged to have radicalised several individuals in India and authorities believe he has a wider network, with further arrests expected soon. His brother, also an ISI agent, is currently absconding. The breakthrough came after a tip-off in September 2024, alerting authorities to suspicious use of Indian mobile numbers by foreign intelligence operatives.A case was filed under relevant provisions of law and further investigations are underway to expose the full scale of this espionage ring.Additionally, Delhi Police also stated that Kasim's actions posed a serious threat to national security and uncovering this network is a high-priority operation for intelligence agencies.Trending Reel

Case against 40 revellers for disobeying order after IPL final celebration

Pune: The Deccan Gymkhana police on Thursday evening registered a case of disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant against 40 revellers who gathered on Fergusson College Road late on the night of June 3 after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the IPL final, beating Punjab Kings' team. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police are yet to ascertain the identities of these revellers. According to the police, the revellers went on dancing, making noise, and blocking Fergusson College Road and the area around Good Luck Chowk. Senior inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan Gymkhana police station said, "We have registered a suo-motu case against the revellers for celebrating at the chowk after RCB's win in the IPL final." Police said the revellers occupied the road's carriage width all of a sudden and did not allow vehicular movement on the road despite repeated requests from them. "A large number of people gathered at the spot after the match to celebrate RCB's win. They burst firecrackers in the area packed with people, which could have turned into a tragedy," Nimbalkar said. Nimbalkar added, "We will study the CCTV cameras, including the AI-based cameras in the Chowk and on FC Road, to trace the revellers. After identifying them, we will call them to the police station for further legal action." The police said that the decision to file a case against the revellers was taken after the Bengaluru tragedy in which at least 11 people died in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru while trying to join a felicitation marking RCB's maiden victory in IPL final. A senior police officer told TOI, "After every cricket final in which either an Indian team or an IPL team wins, a large number of people gather on Fergusson College Road to celebrate the victory. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now There are indisciplined people who drive their vehicles rashly or burst firecrackers. We want to reduce this nuisance in the future, thus we decided to lodge a complaint." SC: Cop pulling in-laws into cruelty case unfortunate

NEW DELHI: Expressing concern over misuse of Sec 498A of IPC that criminalises cruelty in matrimonial homes and dowry harassment, Supreme Court has quashed a case lodged 23 years ago by a Delhi Police woman sub-inspector against her husband, a colleague, and his entire family. Allowing the husband's appeal and quashing the case, a bench of justices B V Nagarathna and Satish C Sharma exercised SC's exclusive powers under Art 142 of the Con-stitution to quash the FIR lodged in 2002 at Malviya Nagar in Delhi and the charge sheet filed against the policeman, his parents and five sisters. "It is rather unfortunate that the complainant being an officer of the state has initiated criminal machinery in such a manner, where the aged parents-in-law, five sisters and one tailor have been arrayed as accused," it said. 'Growing tendency to misuse legal provisions' Writing the judgment, Justice Sharma said: "Even if the allegations and the case of the prosecution is taken at face value, apart from the bald allegations without any specifics of time, date or place, there is no incriminating material found by the prosecution or rather produced by the complainant to substantiate the ingredients of 'cruelty' under Section 498A IPC." The court said there were genuine cases of dowry harassment and cruelty in matrimonial homes but flagged the "growing tendency to misuse legal provisions" by women to rope in relatives of their husbands. The man and woman, both sub-inspectors in Delhi Police, had got married in Feb 1998 as per Buddhist rites. Alleging persistent torture for more dowry ever since the solemnisation of marriage, the woman lodged a police complaint in July 2002. A chargesheet was filed against the man and his relatives in July 2004. The magistrate had framed charges in June 2008.

Peon arrested for making businessman poorer by Rs 1.5 lakh using forged signature on stolen cheques

Mumbai: The police booked the peon of a businessman, who is also the Maldives honorary consul, for allegedly stealing his cheques and using one of these to siphon off Rs 1.5 lakh using a forged signature. The police registered the case against Shrikant Gadtiya (24) on a complaint received from Bobby Mohanty on Wednesday. Police arrested Gadtiya, who claimed he committed the offence for the medical expenses of his niece. Police said Mohanty learned that Gadtiya falsified his signature on a cheque, transferring Rs 1.5 lakh to his account. He also tried to transfer Rs 5 lakh similarly. "Upon investigation, 55 cheques with Mohanty's forged signatures were discovered in his possession. Gadtiya had served as Mohanty's peon for six years," said a police officer. The FIR states that Bobby Mohanty lives in Juhu and serves as the Maldives' honorary consul whilst managing various enterprises. He chairs Tech Engineering Company and operates the Bobby Mohanty Foundation Trust, an organisation supporting disadvantaged individuals. The Maldives consulate office in Andheri (West) employs eight staff members, including Srikant Gadtiya as a peon. A police officer said for six years, Gadtiya resided at Mohanty's Juhu residence whilst working as his peon. His responsibilities included handling documents and banking tasks. Mohanty provided him with Rs 20,000 monthly salary along with food and accommodation. On June 4, DCB Bank's Andheri branch staff contacted Mohanty regarding a Rs 5 lakh cheque supposedly issued by his foundation to Gadtiya. "When Mohanty denied issuing it, the bank shared the cheque's image via WhatsApp. He identified the signature as counterfeit and directed the bank to stop the transaction," said the police. In the FIR, Mohanty said: "The bank also revealed that Gadtiya had successfully deposited a Rs 1.5 lakh cheque from Tech Engineering Company into his account on June 3. When confronted, Gadtiya admitted to the forgery, stating he needed funds for his niece's medical procedure. He acknowledged forging 55 cheques, which were subsequently retrieved."
