Hearn 'a little more hopeful' over Crucible future
Barry Hearn has held positive talks with Sheffield City Council over the World Snooker Championship staying at the Crucible beyond 2027 but says the deadline for a firm decision will come in December.The contract to stage snooker's blue-riband event at the Sheffield theatre which has hosted it since 1977, expires in two years.Matchroom Sport president Hearn, 76, is heavily involved in negotiations over its future has repeatedly called for a greater financial commitment and improved facilities at the venue."We all want to stay here but it has to be a combination," Hearn told BBC Radio 5 Live."I am a little bit more hopeful after meeting Sheffield Council - the positivity and the enthusiasm I saw makes me think there is more than enough chance we can stay here."Sheffield have got a lot of ideas, we're going to meet in three months and we're working to an agenda of knowing more or less where we are by the end of this year. "Obviously if we do move - and it's not something we want to do, I keep stressing that - we need two years to get it planned properly."The Crucible's 980-seat capacity which limits ticket sales and overall revenue has long been seen as a problem for the sport, particularly set against ambitions to raise prize money for players.China and Saudi Arabia have been linked with bids to stage the tournament, which Hearn also says would sell out with increased capacities at other major cities in Britain like, Glasgow, Manchester and London.This year the world champion will receive a top prize of £500,000, an amount that is also on offer at the Saudi Arabia Masters. He also pointed out that next year's PDC world darts champion will collect £1m.However, Hearn also stressed that the need for growth and increased finance is not necessarily linked to those factors alone at a venue with which he has a long personal attachment to. "My life changed at the Crucible in 1981 when Steve Davis won the World Championship. I've been here every year for the past 48 years," he added."Our heart is here, our life is here, the history is here. I think compromise is in the air on both sides and we can do something that maintains the event here and at the same time produces much needed finance to go back to the players."We've just got to find that additional bit of assistance, which hopefully is going to be government-led, in terms of keeping our events in this country. Sheffield is the ideal home for snooker."

"Am I not playing again? I'm not saying anything. I've said it so many times. I'm not saying anything other than I'm moving away soon. There's a lot more important things in life to worry about than a game of snooker." Ronnie and Laila, who got engaged in 2013 but never married, first got together in 2012 after she was shown around a previous house of his while she was property hunting. He later asked her out via the estate agent, who was a pal of hers. Their relationship was rocked by claims Ronnie's mum Maria had called Laila "a prostitute" and the couple initially split in February 2022. They reconciled just months later, but then parted ways again last year. Laila confirmed she and Ronnie had decided to split for good following months of speculation after she was seen without her engagement ring during an appearance on This Morning in August last year. She later wrote on Instagram: "Break ups can strip you down to your essence. "I got through mine by using pain as fuel to take control because no matter what, we will lose parts of ourselves in relationships. It's normal, don't beat yourself up. "One thing I'm conscious of not doing is trying to get back where I was. No, I'm discovering who I've become. I've gone through various emotions... hurt, pain, anger, but what I've realised about anger is that it's bottomless. "The thing about break ups... It doesn't have to be a sad time. It doesn't have to be hard. It can be the beginning of new adventures, new learnings. "It can be a wonderful teacher. Using self-compassion and manifesting a new life without someone you love can still lead you to a place of joy."

Zharnel Hughes set to rewrite history as GB's fastest man changes mindset
British record holder over 100m and 200m became a father in the winter and believes new mindset leaves him in a good position to finally land World Championship medal in Tokyo this year Zharnel Hughes is determined to change the nearly man narrative with Britain's fastest sprinter hoping new dad strength can propel him to the global medal he badly craves. The 100m and 200m national record holder last year saw his Paris Olympic dreams shattered by a hamstring injury. But having welcomed a baby boy in mid-winter, Hughes, 29, says he is now looking at life differently as he sets his sights on making up for past disappointments at September's World Championships in Tokyo. When Japan's capital hosted the Games four years ago, he false started in the 100m final and then had a relay silver stripped away after team-mate CJ Ujah was caught doping. But with Hughes' body 'feeling nice and strong' and several solid races already under his belt in Michael Johnson's Grand Slam series, he is in a good place early in an unusually long season. And the prospect of stepping on to the same track that brought the lowest moment of his career brings no sense of fear. 'It would be amazing to rewrite history,' he says. 'I've moved on from (Tokyo), it's long gone now but I'm looking forward to getting out there to compete.' Hughes is keen on manifestation and keeps a daily journal that charts every high and low but rather than the woes of old weigh heavily on his shoulders, his experience is becoming one of his strongest assets. Already this season there have been a couple of races where he has noticed technical issues when transitioning out of the blocks but did not panic and finished strongly. Hughes laughingly says he 'I don't want to think about' turning 30 next month but he has acquired a newfound wisdom. 'I've changed as an athlete,' Hughes says. 'It was always my job but now I know I need to take care of my son. 'I look over at him every day, hear him laugh, and I feel it's changed my mindset. Nothing else matters to me. As long as I'm making him happy and providing for him and the family is good, I'm happy.' He knows setting off soon for a summer tour across Europe before heading to Asia in early autumn will be difficult and they are already practicing FaceTime routines. 'It won't be easy but it has to be done,' he adds, and if he can bring that medal back home it will all prove worthwhile.
