Roll Ball player and coach from TG to represent Team India in World Championship
Hyderabad: Roll Ball player Sreeshanth and his coach Shilpa Waghray from Telangana are part of the World Cup Roll Ball Championship (under 17) team.
The Roll Ball player Sreeshanth represents Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and has become the first from Telangana to be selected to represent India in the World Cup Roll Ball Championship. The championship is slated to be held in Kenya from June 22 to 29. Sreeshanth is coached by Shilpa Waghray, who is also from Telangana and she has also been named as the assistant coach of Team India.

Indian player Hardik Singh said that the side looks to leave it all out on the field at the upcoming engagements in their effort to secure qualification to the World Cup next year in addition to clinching the top spot in the FIH Pro League. 'We have spoken about this within the squad and believe that if we stick to the plan, accumulate enough points, and push for wins –even securing points from draws and subsequent shootouts — we stand a great chance of qualifying for the World Cup through the Pro League," Hardik began. Team India stand third in the standings ahead of the Euopean leg of the league, and Hardik opined that the upcoming fixtures across the seas would be crucial in catapulting to the qualification places. 'Belgium and the Netherlands qualify automatically as co-hosts of the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup in 2026. That leaves England, who are on top, along with Germany and Spain, as the key competitors vying for qualification," he added. 'Our matches against Argentina will also be crucial. This is a good challenge for us to have, and qualifying early would give us more time to prepare for the World Cup," Hardik added. Hardik, emphasized on the intense training the team has gone through at their camp in Bengaluru, notably in terms of fitness and conditioning, in preparation for the overseas matchups. 'The sessions have been nothing short of rigorous," the 26-year-old said. 'We have really been put through the grind by the coach and Alan (Scientific Advisor). Our strength and conditioning have been on point, mainly because we want to be at our peak for back-to-back matches," the star added. 'We practically have no rest days between games, and even when we do, we'll be travelling from the Netherlands to Belgium," he enumerated. Team India, who have amassed 15 points in the congoing campaign are placed behind England and Belgium, who have 16 points apiece, and Hardik reflected on the essence of the upcoming fixtures in the context of qualification. 'Every point in these six matches will matter. Another exciting aspect of this campaign is that the matches are being played at the same venues where the World Cup will be held next year. 'This gives us a better understanding of what to expect. We're treating this like a World Cup simulation, and that makes this outing even more important for our squad," Hardik signed off. Speaking to the media, Shukla said, 'We are sending a young team to England. We have made Shubman Gill the captain. So, I think we will have an advantage, and the new boys will get a chance to perform and display their talent. I think this will be a very successful tour. I am very hopeful that we will win.' India are set to host ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 with a 'hybrid' model. (Photo: ANI) The 13th edition of the ICC Women's 50-over World Cup will run from September 30 until November 2, with five venues across India and Sri Lanka to be used for the eight-team tournament. India and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are the hosts of the tournament, however, since Pakistan women cricket team have qualified for the event, it will now be hosted in a 'hybrid' format like the ICC men's Champions Trophy 2025 edition. According to a deal worked out between BCCI, ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board, India and Pakistan will not play in their neighbouring countries after Team India had refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The event will commence with a blockbuster clash featuring India in Bengaluru on September 30 as the Women's Cricket World Cup returns to the country after 12 years. The first semi-final will take place in either Guwahati or Colombo on October 29, with the second semi-final to be played the following day on October 30 in Bengaluru. The first semifinal will only take place in Colombo if Pakistan women cricket team qualify for the last four stage and the same will be the case if they reach the final. The eight teams that will feature in the Women's World Cup are India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Australia will enter the event as the reigning champions having defeated England in the final of the most recent Women's World Cup in New Zealand in 2022. They are also the most successful team in tournament history having been crowned champions on seven occasions. Meanwhile, Edgbaston in Birmingham has been announced as the host for the opening match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 with England women kicking off the tournament on 12 June. Fans can register their interest now to be the first to get their hands on tickets when an exclusive pre-sale window opens on 12 June 2025. Tickets for the opening game will start at £15 for adults and £5 for juniors. Beyond Birmingham, the tournament will continue its nationwide journey, before heading to London where The Oval is set to host both semi-final clashes, while the final will take place at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground on 5 July 2026. Both semi-finals will light up London at The Oval on 30 June and 2 July 2026, with tickets from £20 for adults and £10 for juniors, while final tickets start at £30 and £15. Over the course of 24 days, a total of 33 matches will be played across seven top-tier venues, including Old Trafford Cricket Ground (Manchester), Headingley (Leeds), The Hampshire Bowl (Southampton), and Bristol County Ground. The expanded competition will see 12 teams descend on England and Wales to compete for the prestigious trophy that is currently held by New Zealand. Eight countries are already sure of their place, with the final four participants to be decided through a Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier next year.
