Officials asked to complete Phase-1 work of ports to boost Infrastructure: CM Naidu
Vijayawada, June 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced establishing the Andhra Pradesh Logistics Corporation soon to drive infrastructure growth across roads, ports, airports, and fishing harbours.
He also asked officials to prepare a plan for setting up heliports in agency areas to promote tourism in tribal regions.
Chairing a review meeting at his camp office in Undavalli near here on Tuesday, the CM emphasised that ports and fishing harbours are valuable economic assets for Andhra Pradesh.
He stressed the urgency of completing these projects and bringing them into operational use swiftly. Discussions also included port operations and maintenance.
The Chief Minister directed officials to complete Phase-1 works of Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam, and Mulapeta ports as well as the Kakinada Gateway Port by December next year.
He also instructed completion of Phase-1 construction for the Juvvaladinne, Nizampatnam, Machilipatnam, and Uppada fishing harbours within the same timeframe.
CM Naidu urged officials to explore the possibility of upgrading fishing harbours into minor ports without causing inconvenience to local fishing communities, thereby enhancing regional incomes.
The Chief Minister directed the immediate initiation of Phase-1 works for new airports in Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Amaravati, and Srikakulam (Palasa).
He emphasised the goal of developing at least 20 ports and 14 airports across the state.
Chandrababu Naidu also instructed the expansion of state roads in accordance with traffic needs, integrating them with national highways through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that construction of Machilipatnam Port has reached 43.25% completion and is scheduled for full completion by November next year. Phase-1 of Ramayapatnam Port stands at 63.89% completion, Mulapeta Port at 46.59%, and Kakinada Gateway Port at 29.92%.
Regarding fishing harbours, Juvvaladinne is at 97.72% completion, Nizampatnam at 81.17%, Machilipatnam at 69.20%, and Uppada at 78.94%, as per updates shared with the Chief Minister.

India has outperformed global growth average despite challenges: Om Birla
Brasilia/New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said despite the global uncertainties and domestic challenges, India has consistently outperformed the global growth average. 'Rising from the 10th largest economy in 2014 to the 4th largest today is a testament to India's robust policies and the strength of its people,' Birla said while addressing the 2nd Working Session of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum here on the theme 'BRICS Parliamentary Action in Search of New Paths for Economic Development', an official statement said. He said that from 2014-15 to 2024-25, India's GDP has grown at an average rate of over 7 percent, making it the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Birla noted that India is not only the world's largest and most vibrant democracy but also a nation with stable governance, strong constitutional institutions, the rule of law, a transparent and accountable tax system, and decisive leadership that has earned the trust of global investors. The Lok Sabha Speaker said that India supports a fair and rule-based global trading system—one that adequately addresses the needs and aspirations of the Global South. 'India views the BRICS Parliamentary Forum as a vital platform—where through shared efforts and dialogue, we can redefine the contours of economic development. This forum further reinforces our commitment to mutual cooperation, solidarity, and the welfare of our citizens,' the Speaker added. Moreover, during his bilateral meeting with President of the Federal Senate of Brazil, Davi Alcolumbre, Birla said that terrorism is the biggest threat to global peace and stability. While referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 innocent civilians were brutally killed, Birla said, 'Pakistan has failed to take concrete action against the terrorist infrastructure operating from its territory; India exercised its right to respond, to prevent such cross-border attacks in the future, and to defend itself.' On Operation Sindoor, Birla said that these steps were 'measured, non-provocative, proportionate, and responsible'. Their sole objective was to destroy terrorist infrastructure and neutralise the capabilities of terrorists. 'Today's India is firmly committed to a policy of zero tolerance towards all forms of terrorism and gives a strong response to every terrorist attack,' he added. On the sidelines of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum, the Lok Sabha Speaker also held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil Hugo Motta. Birla observed that India and Brazil are natural partners. Both countries have, from time to time, provided direction and momentum to their bilateral relations through high-level dialogues. He added, 'There is extensive collaboration between the two countries in areas such as defence, technology, space, energy, and culture. The special session organised by the Brazilian Congress in 2022 on the occasion of 75 years of India's independence is a testament to our special friendship.'

Andhra launches plantation drive to boost green cover to 50% by 2047
The Andhra Pradesh government launched a large-scale greening campaign on Thursday to mark World Environment Day, with the objective of increasing the state's green cover from the current 30.05 per cent to 50 per cent by 2047. The initiative, part of the Vana Mahotsav (forest festival) and End Plastic Pollution drive, involves planting 10 million saplings across the state. Currently, the green cover includes 22.96 per cent recorded forest area and 7.09 per cent trees outside forests. Officials aim to add over 32,000 square kilometres of green area to meet the 2047 target. CM, deputy CM launch campaign Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan launched the campaign at the state level, with concurrent events held at district and constituency levels. Target: 55.8 million saplings in 2025 The state plans to plant 55.8 million saplings in 2025, covering 180,000 hectares. The goal is to achieve 37 per cent green cover by 2029, with an annual increase of 1.5 per cent. Progress will be monitored through geo-tagging, drone surveillance, satellite imagery, and audit-based scoring. Real-time dashboards will track developments and encourage public participation. Mission Haritha Andhra Pradesh to oversee campaign District Collectors will coordinate the drive with support from senior IAS and IFS officers. Nodal officers will oversee the campaign under the Mission Haritha Andhra Pradesh initiative. Between 2025 and 2030, over 987,000 hectares will be covered through plantations led by the Forest and Horticulture departments, with support from other line departments and local bodies.

PM leads nationwide green drive; kicks off Aravalli Green Wall Project
New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) On the World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded a series of green initiatives, including the launch of an ambitious 'Aravalli Green Wall Project,' aimed at combating land degradation and the growing threats of climate change. Leading by example, the Prime Minister planted a sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi's southern ridge area, further strengthening the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which was launched last year to promote tree plantation in honour of one's mother. Highlighting the ecological significance of the Aravalli range, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, Modi emphasised its crucial role in four Indian states -- Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi. He reiterated the government's commitment to addressing the environmental challenges facing the region and beyond. 'To rejuvenate the Aravalli range, we must combine traditional conservation methods with modern, innovative techniques, especially in urban and semi-urban areas where space is limited,' the Prime Minister said. He added that all plantation activities would be geo-tagged and monitored through the Meri LiFE portal, ensuring transparency and accountability. Calling upon the youth to become active participants in environmental protection, Modi urged them to contribute towards increasing the country's green cover. Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister shared details of the new initiatives, describing them as a boost to the ongoing 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. He said the focus would be on restoring degraded landscapes, improving local water systems, curbing dust storms, and halting the eastward spread of the Thar Desert. 'We will work closely with local administrations to implement these measures effectively,' he added. To mark the occasion, Modi also flagged off a fleet of electric buses under a Delhi government initiative to promote clean urban mobility and sustainable development. 'This move will not only build a greener and cleaner Delhi but also enhance the ease of living for its residents,' he posted on X. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister planted a Sindoor sapling at his New Delhi residence. The sapling was a gift from the women of Kutch, Gujarat, in recognition of their extraordinary courage and patriotism during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Recalling his recent visit to Kutch, Modi described the gift as 'a powerful symbol of bravery and an inspiring tribute to the strength of women in our nation.'
