, the software engineer from Florida in the USA who was killed in a terror attack at Pahalgam on Tuesday, have launched a
crowdfunding campaign
from Florida to support his grieving family — his ageing parents, his wife Soheni, and three-and-a-half-year-old son Hridaan.
The fundraiser, on the platform

under the title "In Loving Memory of Bitan Adhikary – Support for his Family", aims to raise $300,000 (Rs 2.6 crore), of which $131,175 (Rs 1.1 crore) was raised by Friday night.
"He is one of the victims of the
Pahalgam terror attack
in Jammu and Kashmir, India. He was visiting India on a vacation and decided to take his family on a tour to Kashmir, and unfortunately, he lost his life in the hands of cruelty. For us, he is a martyr and an unfortunate casualty of this inhumane activity," Bibhas Bera, a friend who started the campaign, wrote on the crowdfunding page. It mentioned that after his sudden death, the family is "now facing financial burdens of ongoing mortgage, auto loan, supporting his family and son's future, and other unexpected costs."
The page also mentions Adhikary, known for his cheerful nature, kindness, and generosity, as the "sole bread-earner" for his family.
The post mentions that every donation will go directly to the family and will be deeply appreciated, but also adds that Soheni is yet to be added as a beneficiary. "Soheni is still not added as a beneficiary because right now, she is busy with press, govt bodies, and preparing rituals for Bitan's last rites. But we understand people's concerns over the authenticity of this fundraiser, so feel free to wait until she is officially added as a beneficiary. We are only trying to help her," the page reads while adding that the fundraiser was started after talking to her.
TOI tried to speak to Soheni on the issue but she refused to comment. Family members said she was too traumatised on Friday after the shraddh rituals.
The website mentions that to withdraw the money, Soheni will have to accept the invitation to be added as a beneficiary, and then she can add her bank details and complete the claims process.

SIT finds liquor scam links to 2024 MP candidates
Tirupati: The ongoing investigation into the sensational liquor scam in the State has taken a significant political turn, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) reportedly uncovering fresh links involving candidates who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It was learnt that the SIT has found evidence suggesting that liquor money was allegedly routed to certain MP candidates during the general elections. The funds were reportedly funnelled by the prime accused, Raj Kasireddy, through his driver, and delivered to political candidates via their own drivers or gunmen. In a bid to dig deeper into these alleged connections, a SIT team recently camped in Tirupati for two days. During their stay, officials questioned several individuals and reportedly gathered crucial evidence to support the emerging claims. The probe is now intensifying, focusing on the origin of the funds used for distributing cash and other inducements to voters during the elections. Investigators are said to be tracing both the source and the flow of this money. In the midst of these developments, former Chandragiri MLA and YSR Congress Party's Ongole MP candidate in the last elections, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, has publicly claimed that attempts werre being made to implicate him in the case. Speaking to the media on Thursday and Friday, Chevireddy maintained his innocence and declared he was ready to cooperate with any investigation. He alleged that the SIT had coerced a former Armed Reserve constable named Giri, who once served as his gunman, into making a false statement against him. 'When I served as government whip, constable Giri worked with me. The SIT summoned him and interrogated him for five days. They pressured him to falsely claim that I moved funds ranging from Rs 250 crore to Rs `500 crore. If they want to arrest me, there's no need for battalions. I'll surrender voluntarily if called. The truth will come out in court,' Chevireddy stated. He further alleged that his associate, Venkateswar Naidu, was also being subjected to harsh interrogation by the SIT in an attempt to extract a statement implicating him. Chevireddy urged investigators to question him directly rather than harassing those associated with him. He also reiterated his long-standing opposition to liquor, citing personal loss due to alcohol. 'I lost both my father and brother to alcohol. I have no association with liquor and I never will,' he asserted. As the SIT's probe deepens, more names from the political and administrative spheres are expected to emerge. With multiple layers being peeled back, the scandal is fast becoming one of the most politically charged controversies in the State's recent history.

Man arrested, 670 e-cigarettes worth Rs 21 lakh seized
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner's Task Force, Central Zone Team, along with Saifabad Police apprehended a 28-year-old man involved in the illegal sale of banned electronic cigarettes and seized 670 e-cigarettes worth Rs 21 lakh from his possession. The police raided a flat located in Prinstancode Apartments, Adarsh Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Saifabad Police Station. During the operation, Akash Sinde was arrested and e-cigarettes of various brands such as Elfbar, Elux, Raya D1, Nasty, and Shisha were seized. According to police, Akash, originally a resident of Mangalhat, was employed as a caretaker by one Vishesh Agarwal at Prinstancode Apartments, located opposite Grand Bazar, Adarsh Nagar, on a monthly salary basis. Task Force DCP YVS Sudheendra said that in pursuit of easy and illegal profits, Akash began procuring banned e-cigarettes at low cost from Delhi through a network of agents. He then transported them to Hyderabad, stored them at the said premises, and sold them clandestinely to known and needy customers, primarily targeting college students, teenagers, and youth. Electronic cigarettes contain Nicotine and harmful chemical-laced flavors, making them highly addictive and injurious to health. The easy availability and appeal of these products are leading to increased consumption among the younger demographic. The accused, along with the seized material, has been handed over to the Saifabad Police for further legal action.
