Darshan Thoogudeepa seeks permission for foreign travel months after bail from Renukaswamy case

Darshan Thoogudeepa came under the scanner after he was arrested in the murder case of Renukaswamy, a fan of his from Chitradurga. He was jailed in June 2024 and after a prolonged judicial case, he was granted bail in December 2024, along with 16 other accomplices, including actress Pavithra Gowda.
Darshan Thoogudeepa seeks foreign travel permission after bail
It has been months since Darshan Thoogudeepa has been out of jail in the ongoing Renukaswamy case. He has recently filed a petition before a trial court in Bengaluru seeking permission for foreign travel.
He has requested consent to travel to Dubai and Europe between the period of June 1 and June 25. For the unversed, the actor is already on conditional bail at the moment.
Darshan's petition faces objection from public prosecutor
The petition made by the Kannada actor is facing an objection from the special public prosecutor. The latter has submitted to the court its doubts that if Darshan Thoogudeepa leaves the country, the chances of his return are less than nominal.
The final verdict by the court on the matter is expected to be delivered by the end of the day on May 29, 2025.

Once out on bail, Darshan Thoogudeepa has jumped back to work and is currently shooting for a film titled The Devil. The Kannada action film is directed and produced by Prakash.

"I Want To Stay Here Too": Father Holds On To Grave Of Son Killed In Stampede
Bengaluru: Out to celebrate the victory of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League, 11 people were killed and 47 were injured when a stampede broke out at the gates of the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. The statistics, however, sometimes overshadow the personal tragedies, and a video of a father crying and holding on to his son's grave has brought them sharply into focus. The video shows BT Lakshman - the father of 21-year-old Bhumik Lakshman, who died in the stampede - wailing at his son's grave at their native village in Hassan district. "What happened to my son should not happen to anyone," he says, lying down on the ground with his head pressed against the grave. "The land I had bought for him is where his memorial has been built." Refusing to let go, Mr Lakshman says, "I don't want to go anywhere else now. I want to stay here too," as two other men approach him and help him to his feet. "No father should have to face what I am facing," he laments. A final-year engineering student, Bhumik was among the thousands of people who had gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday to celebrate and catch a glimpse of the players who had won the RCB the IPL title after an 18-year wait. He was among the 11 people, including a 14-year-old girl, who had died in the stampede that followed. Mr Lakshman had spoken to reporters after the tragedy and appealed to the government that his son's body be given to him without being "cut up" during a post-mortem. "I had only one son, and now I have lost him. Please give me his body, don't conduct a post-mortem and cut his body into pieces. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister may visit us (the victims of the tragedy), but they can't bring him back," he had said, fighting tears. BJP's Attack The video of Mr Lakshman at his son's grave has also been shared by the Karnataka unit of the BJP, which has accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of being "murderous". "Murderous CM @siddaramaiah sir, murderous DCM @DKShivakumar sir, if you had made up your mind, you could have taken a photo with your children and grandchildren in a luxurious hotel with a cup. But your insistence on taking a photo on the steps of the Vidhana Soudha has made 11 families wash their hands in tears every day. Can you give this father his son back?" the handle of the Karnataka unit of the BJP posted in Kannada on X. The reference was to the felicitation of the RCB players at the Vidhana Soudha - the state legislature complex - where several key Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, were present. The Congress, however, has repeatedly accused the BJP of politicising the issue and said the Karnataka government is doing all it can to help the families of the victims and ensure that a tragedy like this doesn't occur again. The police have arrested four people in connection with the stampede and five police officers, including the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, have been suspended. On Friday, the Karnataka government also sacked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's Political Secretary K Govindaraj as well as the state intelligence department chief.

Where does Kamal Haasan stand on the issue of imposition of Hindi in the south? "I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra," is his quick reply. The pan-India superstar's latest film "Thug Life", the 234th in a 65-year career, released in theatres this week amid controversy over his comment that Kannada was born out of Tamil. He refused to apologise and the film did not release in Karnataka. "I am the actor from 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'...," Haasan told PTI during a recent visit to the news agency's headquarters, referring to his 1981 hit Hindi film about a Tamil boy and his romance with his Hindi speaking neighbour. "Without imposition, we will learn. Don't impose, because this is ultimately education and we must take the shortest route to education... and not put hurdles in its way," the actor said. The ruling DMK in his home state Tamil Nadu has long opposed the three-language policy introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP). The party has repeatedly accused the BJP-led NDA government of attempting to "impose Hindi", a charge the Centre has denied. "And English seems to be fair enough. You can do Spanish also, or Chinese. But I think the most practical thing where the shortest route to that is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but steadily. So when you suddenly replace it, it's all over again. You make unnecessarily many people illiterate, especially in Tamil Nadu. "You suddenly force all through Hindi and you tell them that you will not get your job beyond the Vindhyas, then you start wondering, what about the promises? What about my language? Am I not one of the 22 (official languages)? These are the questions that are coming." Tamil is one of the 22 official languages of the country, apart from Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili and Dogri. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had said it would not let "Thug Life" release unless Haasan apologised for his Kannada-Tamil comment at a promotional event in Chennai. His banner Raajkamal Films International filed a plea before the Karnataka High Court seeking protection for the release of the film, which sees him reuniting with Mani Ratnam after "Nayakan" in 1987. After a rap from the court over the remark, the producers said "Thug Life" will not be released in Karnataka.
