Beautician drowned after 'crash threw her from car'
A beautician drowned after she was thrown from a car and became trapped when the vehicle crashed into a ditch, an inquest heard.
Kelsie Stevens, 19, was "submerged" in water for an hour after the crash in Crays Hill, near Basildon, on 25 May 2024.
Essex Coroner's Court heard Ms Stevens, from West Hanningfield, died from "submersion with entrapment" after she was pinned beneath the vehicle.
Four men - aged 74, 54, 18 and 16 - all from Billericay, and one woman, aged 20, from Rayleigh, were arrested in connection with her death. They have all remained on police bail since the incident.
Area coroner Michelle Brown said Ms Stevens was "very young" and died in "tragic circumstances.
"I would just like to extend my personal sympathies," she added.
The brief hearing in Chelmsford was told Ms Stevens was a passenger in a Mercedes, which crashed at about 00:35 BST while heading towards Wickford.
Ms Brown said: "The vehicle suddenly left the carriageway and collided with a street sign.
"The vehicle has rolled and she has been ejected from the vehicle."
Ms Stevens drowned having been trapped under the car in a water-filled ditch, the court heard.
The coroner suspended further inquest proceedings so Essex Police could continue investigating.
In a tribute issued through police after her death, Ms Stevens' family said she was a "dearly loved" daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend.
She worked as a lash technician and "enjoyed dancing, horse riding, cooking, baking, listening to music and spending time with her Dachshund".
"All of us will greatly miss Kelsie very much," they added.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A Columbus social media finance influencer pleaded guilty Friday to orchestrating a $20 million Ponzi scheme, according to federal prosecutors. Prosecutors said Tyler Bossetti, 31, of Columbus, took more than $23 million in investments from the victims, dozens of which lost more than $11 million. Watch previous coverage in the player above. Fourteen false and fraudulent 1099-INT tax forms were also filed due to Bossetti, according to prosecutors. He admitted to 'misappropriating investor funds to further his lifestyle,' prosecutors said, including payments for a downtown Columbus condo, frequent travel, a $150,000 Mercedes and cryptocurrency investments. Bossetti hosts a podcast and runs Boss Lifestyle LLC, and Bossetti Enterprises, LLC. His Instagram account, which had 1 million followers, appears to have been deleted. Nearly 100 homes in Franklin County have sold for $1 million in 2025 He bills himself as an entrepreneur and investor on his LinkedIn profile. An attorney listed for Bossetti in court records previously told NBC4 that they would have no comment on the case. Bossetti has at least a dozen civil cases against him and his businesses in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, online records show. Many of the cases — dealing with alleged mishandling of money and investments — have been closed, but several remained active. In one case, he was sued for owing more than $30,000 in credit card debt on his American Express Business Gold card. The judge ordered Bossetti to pay $31,834.19 to the bank after he 'failed to properly answer or otherwise defend although duly served with process according to law by Certified Mail on 11/24/23.' Bossetti is also named as a defendant in another federal lawsuit, which was closed in August, where he was accused of failing to pay back $1.125 million by Nov. 30, 2022, for a $900,000 loan he received from Oak River Equity Ventures, LLC. He asked for an extension of the payment deadline after stating that he wouldn't have the money on time. The two parties agreed to an extension, with Bossetti owing a new amount of $1.162 million, according to the complaint. Bossetti failed to pay by the new deadline, but told Oak River that the payment was sent on Jan. 13, 2023, which the company said was false. A judge found that Bossetti was liable to pay a total of $2.26 million plus post-judgment interest due to a 50% interest rate plus a 5% supplemental default interest, according to court documents. In a second federal lawsuit, Bossetti was accused of failing to pay back another $550,000 loan. Woman and children hit by lorry in 'hit-and-run'
A woman and two children have been hit by a lorry in an alleged hit-and-run in a city, police said. It happened at the junction of Forster Street and Tower Square in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent at about 12:10 BST on Friday. One of the children, a young boy, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to hospital as a precaution, Staffordshire Police said. A spokesperson for the force confirmed the driver of the lorry did not stay at the scene and a cordon was put in place while officers made inquiries. 'We want justice', say stab victim's family
The family of a "much loved" man found stabbed in a Hull street have said they want justice four years after his killing. Corey Dobbe, 23, died following the attack on Harleston Close on 13 June 2021 but his killer has never been found. In a statement to mark the anniversary, Mr Dobbe's family said they would "never get over the heartbreak of losing him". "We just want justice for Corey, our pain and distress will continue every day until those responsible face justice," they added. Detectives have made a renewed appeal for information, adding that finding Moise Djuku, wanted in connection with the killing, continues to be their focus. To date, there have been no arrests. Det Ch Insp Alan Curtis, from Humberside Police, said: "Moise Djuku is out there somewhere, I would ask again for anyone who knows where he is, to come forward and give us that vital information. "I want to help Corey's grieving family get justice for his senseless killing. Corey Dobbe and his family deserve justice. They deserve their day in court and to bring his killer to justice." An inquest in July 2023 heard Mr Dobbe had suffered 17 wounds to his back, chest, spine and arms when he was attacked near the Holderness Drain. He died as a result of three fatal stab wounds to the chest and, despite the efforts of paramedics, was pronounced dead at the scene.
