Sourav Ganguly Meets Vaibhav Suryavanshi After RR's 1-Run Loss, Gives Big Advice: "No Need..."

NDTV05-05-2025

Former Indian cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly met Rajasthan Royals' 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. It was a poor show from Vaibhav who was dismissed for just four runs as his side slumped to an one-run loss. According to a report by Sangbad Pratidin, Ganguly met Sanju Samson and RR head coach Rahul Dravid before catching up with Vaibhav. Ganguly took a look at Vaibhav's bat and also gave a pep talk to the youngster. "I have seen your game. Keep playing the way you play fearless cricket. There is no need to change the game," he said according to the report.
Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag feels that he miscalculated the target and failed to finish the match as Kolkata Knight Riders clinched a one-run win in a thrilling encounter at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
Parag played a scintillating knock of 95 runs in 45 balls laced with eight sixes and six fours but failed to finish the game for his side as they fell one run short while chasing 22 in the last over.
Chasing 207, Rajasthan were on target with 52 required off 30 balls with Parag and Shubham Dubey at the crease. But Parag's dismissal in the 18th over shifted the tide in KKR's favour. However, Dubey tried to snatch victory from KKR's jaws but fell one run short of the target despite scoring two sixes and a four.
"I was just too sad about myself getting out. Probably a miscalculation from my side, I should have finished it. I think we could have found better options in the last six overs. I think they were 120 or 130 and our spinners did really well and maybe we could have cut down their runs, but the game was in our hands. We should have finished this," Parag said in the post-match presentation.
Reflecting on their bowling performance in the match, Parag admitted he could have used his resources better against Andre Russell who scored 25-ball 57 in the fag end of the innings,
"I didn't want to bowl bowlers back-to-back, but now it feels like maybe we could have done something else. We've got to give (Russell) credit because he came in, took his time. The way he accelerated was amazing to watch. It's a ground where sixes are hit, so I knew I had my boundaries if I stayed. Wicket was gripping a little and I had to pick my battles, but I felt I could have finished it. You've got to be clinical, you've got to be perfect, and we weren't so the consequences are here," he said.

'Why do I need RCB? I don't even drink Royal Challenge': Karnataka Deputy CM's epic take on rumours of buying franchise

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar on Wednesday shut down rumours about him buying the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise in epic fashion. His statement came a day after RCB owners, Diageo India — the Indian arm of UK-based Diageo Plc — responded to speculation that part or all of the IPL franchise was up for sale "I am not a mad man. I'm just a member of the Karnataka Cricket Association from my younger days, that's all. I don't have time, though I had offers to be part of the management... Why do I need RCB? I don't even drink Royal Challenge," Shivakumar told news agency ANI. Earlier this week, a Bloomberg report said that the British distiller was in discussion with potential advisers on selling the club. Diageo owns the team through its Indian unit, United Spirits Ltd., and may seek a valuation of as much as $2 billion. Following the rumours, the shares of United Spirits, registered with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), gained a 3.3 per cent increase in its price, this hitting a five-month high on Tuesday morning. This forced the BSE to sent out a mail to Diageo, who then responded saying the reports were merely speculative in nature. Mital Sanghvi, the company secretary, informed the regulating body of the Indian Stock Market on the mail saying, "The company would like to clarify that the aforesaid media reports are speculative in nature and it is not pursuing any such discussion. This is for your information and records."

Virat Kohli's aura and chirping will be a big miss for India at slips: Ollie Pope

Star England batter Ollie Pope feels India will miss Virat Kohli's aura and his chirping standing in the slips in the upcoming Test series against England. India and England are set to lock horns in a five-match series beginning from June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. Ahead of the all-important rubber, senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirements, leaving massive holes to fill in the Indian Ollie Pope commented on the absence of the senior duo, mentioning Indian cricket's depth and said that they have enough players to fill in the shoes. However, Pope also stated that India will miss Virat Kohli's intimidating presence on the field as he was always in the face of the Final 2025 SA vs AUS Live "It's a young team, but these Indian players they have got so much depth and talent. So they've got a lot of young guys coming through; a lot of good players. Shubman Gill, their new captain, is a fantastic player. They will miss the aura of Virat Kohli standing at slips and chirping away. But they have got some good talent, so they will feel confident. But our players are ready for it," Pope said during an interaction with talkSPORT Pope also stated that it's going to be great challenge to face a quality team like India, which will serve as a good preparation for the Ashes later this year."It's a great time for us to play India. Last summer, we had the West Indies and Sri Lanka, but with India coming over, the level of quality that they will bring is a great way for us to focus on that and not look ahead. So yeah, for us, it's the perfect time to play India, and then once the Ashes come around, it will be exciting," Pope upcoming series will be the first assignment for the new captain Shubman Gill and vice captain Rishabh Pant. India haven't won a series in England since 2007 and will be up against Ben Stokes' men, who recently climbed to second spot in the ICC Test rankings.
