Whether you're leaving from domestic ports like Miami or international ones like Rotterdam, anyone who's almost missed their cruise because of flight delays or other unpredictable travel snafus can tell you how important it is to fly in the day before your ship is set to sail.
Having learned that lesson the hard way myself, I now arrive for every cruise at least one day early and have found some great hotels in cities like Vancouver and Southampton that are worth a stay, whether you're sailing away or parking yourself there for a while.
My latest discovery was the InterContinental Miami, an IHG Hotel, which turned out to be the ideal place to spend the night before my Virgin Voyages cruise to Barcelona. Not only does this luxury waterfront hotel offer beautiful views of Biscayne Bay — and the cruise ships! — but it's a quick ride to the port so you can stay a little longer and take advantage of all the hotel's features and special programs, which include their infamous salsa nights, yoga classes and cooking demos along with the award-winning mySpa, three top-notch dining venues and a rooftop pool with brand new private, oceanview cabanas.

Because I didn't arrive until late at night, I wasn't able to take advantage of any of those amenities. That was okay, though, because I chose the InterContinental Miami for very specific reasons: location, rooms and Club InterContinental, all of which exceeded my expectations.

Hotels, like all real estate, are all about location, location, location — and InterContinental Miami's is prime. It's a short drive from the airport and an even shorter drive to the cruise port. Plus, because I'm partial to a room with a view, I was able to overlook the water, see my ship and fall asleep to the sounds of the sea and the anticipation of two weeks sailing across it.

I booked a classic room (with a view), which was roomy and comfortable and came with a cozy bathrobe, complimentary bottles of water and luxurious Byredo bath products.
The bed was so cozy, I could easily have slept the morning away but my desire to take advantage of all the perks the lounge had to offer won out.

I love a good hotel lounge and ClubInterContinental is a good example why. Recently redesigned, it's warm and inviting and the breakfast buffet, which is curated by the hotel's Executive Chef, had so many excellent choices.
The lounge offers afternoon tea time and happy hour, as well, and I'm always happy when I can help myself to bottles of water and Diet Coke any time of day.
Access to ClubInterContinental can be obtained in a variety of ways, from booking a suite to selecting a lounge membership through IHG Milestone Rewards or paying a Club rate for your room.
One of the best features of ClubInterContinental is that it provides guests with a dedicated concierge who can pretty much help with anything you need. Matheus made everything so easy for us, nabbing us a late checkout and printing out our Kenya visas for our post-cruise trip.
I will definitely be returning to InterContinental Miami before my next MSC cruise (MSC World America, here we come) and just may start planning a separate, extended stay because Miami suddenly seems to be calling me.

Netflix Tudum 2025 is headed to the world's largest streaming service on Saturday, June 1, with fans eager to hear release dates, see exclusive footage and learn more about the streamer's eagerly anticipated upcoming TV show and movie releases. "Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event" will feature the casts of "Stranger Things," "Wednesday," Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein," and more, while providing behind-the-scenes content and live music. The site also provides the latest news on new shows and movies, provides data on top movies on the platform and offers recommended viewing based on your preferences. The onomatopoetic word also refers to the global pop culture event first held in São Paulo, Brazil, in January 2020. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th events were livestreamed on YouTube, and eventually broadcast globally from Brazil in June 2023. Neflix's Tudum has been an annual event since 2020, but this year is the first it'll be held in the U.S. and air live on Netflix. The format for this year's show — dubbed "Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event" — is a combination of "fanfare, variety show, comedic, music, live performances, talent, appearances," according to Variety. The event will give audience members a sneak peek at upcoming movies and shows via teasers, trailers and clips, and will introduce guests from TV and film, as well as include live music. Tudum 2025 is being held at the Kia Forum, a multipurpose arena adjacent to Los Angeles in Inglewood, California. Tickets are sold out on Ticketmaster, but they are available on trustworthy and vetted reseller sites StubHub, Vivid Seats and SeatGeek, with tickets as low as $12. Netflix Tudum 2025 will begin streaming live at 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific). Netflix will be the sole streaming platform for Tudum 2025. Netflix does not offer a free trial, but you can cancel at any time or change your plan without any fees. Here are the plans you can sign up for: Standard with ads for $7.99/month, Standard without ads for $17.99/month and Premium (4K, HDR without ads) for $24.99/month. ‘Hurricane Diane' turns an updated Greek god loose on New Jersey housewives at Hartford Stage
In Greek mythology, Dionysus is the god who oversees vegetables and fruit, particularly the making of wine from grapes, and thus is also connected to ecstatic partying. Dionsysus is also the god of theater. In Madeleine George's play 'Hurricane Diane,' running at Hartford Stage June 5-29, Dionysus becomes Diane, a landscaping expert with an environmentalist streak seeking to change the destiny of humankind by wreaking a little havoc in New Jersey. The play is having a moment. Over a dozen productions of 'Hurricane Diane' have happened, or are scheduled to happen, in the U.S. and Canada this year. The script has been around since 2017, when it had its world premiere at Two River Theater in New Jersey. There was a well-received off-Broadway production at New York Theatre Workshop, then regional theaters and college theaters around the country embraced it. TheaterWorks Hartford had the script on its shortlist for a recent season but didn't end up doing it, making Hartford Stage's production of 'Hurricane Diane' its Connecticut premiere. Other plays by George, who grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts and now lives in New York City, include 'The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence,' 'The Sore Loser' and 'Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England.' George is a writer and executive story editor of the TV series 'Only Murders in the Building.' She is married to Lisa Kron, also a playwright, who is known to Hartford theatergoers for the musical 'Fun Home,' done by TheaterWorks Hartford in 2023 and '2.5 Minute Ride,' done at Hartford Stage in 2002 and 2024. Last year's '2.5 Minute Ride' was directed by Hartford Stage associate artistic director Zoë Golub-Sass, who is now directing 'Hurricane Diane.' The blustery title role in 'Hurricane Diane' is played by Bernadette Sefic, who grew up in Colorado, studied theater (mainly the Elizabethan variety) in California and is thoroughly enjoying their first visit to Connecticut. 'I had not done this play before and I had not seen it, but I had read it in grad school,' they said. 'Now I'm an actor living in New York but I went to the University of San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre. My resume is 90% Shakespeare.' Sefic sees their casting as the modern embodiment of a Greek god as karmic. 'When I was offered this role I was in Greece. I went to see the Theatre of Dionysus in Athens. I've gone back to the writings about Dionysus and whatnot. There are a lot of different versions.' 'Hurrican Diane,' Sefic said, is 'very much a modern contemporary comedy. It hints at ancient Greek plays, but it doesn't live there. There are moments where it gets surreal. The lighting designer and the sound designer, who also composed the music for this, are creating awesome effects.' In terms of style, the script has a big opening monologue for Diane, just as the Greek tragedy 'The Bacchae' by Euripides opens with a big monologue for Dionysus, but in a much more open manner. 'There's a lot of direct address to the audience,' Sefic said. 'To say that she is friendly with the audience is kind of an understatement. But while Diane talks directly to the audience a lot, 'The Women' don't see the audience at all — for them there's this strong fourth wall.' 'The Women' whom Sefic referred to, are the modern equivalent of the women in Euripides' 'The Bacchae.' George makes them a group of New Jersey housewives who spend most of their time together in each others' kitchens. 'They're all unhappy in their lives,' Sefic said. 'We see the response of these four women receiving this energy in their lives. Madeleine George writes that they accept Diane because she is bringing in the natural world.' Sefic said 'The Women' — played at Hartford Stage by Katya Campbell (as Carol), Christina DeCicco (Pam), Alyse Alan Louis (Beth) and Sharina Martin (Renee) — 'are so funny. I feel like I'm running a marathon just to keep up with them. This play has such a range of emotions. It's scary, erotic, terrifying, angry … and also funny, amazing and awe-inspiring. It stays funny until the very end, even with the serious parts.' Sefic identifies as non-binary, uses they/them pronouns and has played both male and female roles in the Shakespeare plays that make up the bulk of her acting resume. How does she see Diane in this play? 'Dionysus, who was very into androgyny, comes to Earth as a butch lesbian. She's a masculine person who doesn't identify as male. She uses she/her pronouns.' 'Hurricane Diane' is written for diverse audiences, yet 'it can be a very queer show and I'm happy that we're doing it during Pride Month,' Sefic said. Above all, the actor said, 'this is a contemporary comedy about the Greek god Dionysus coming to modern day New Jersey and saving the world by seducing some disgruntled New Jersey housewives.' 'Hurricane Diane,' directed by Zoë Golub-Sass, runs June 5-29 at Hartford Stage, 50 Church St., Hartford. Performances are Wednesdays through Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There are added Tuesday performances on June 10 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and no Saturday matinee on June 7. $20-$105.

Prediction: Lyft Stock Could Double in the Next 3 Years
Lyft's business has improved significantly over the last three years. The ride-share company is expanding into Europe with its recently announced acquisition of FreeNow. It continues to add new features like Lyft Silver. 10 stocks we like better than Lyft › Lyft (NASDAQ: LYFT) has had a tough time on the public markets. Share prices of the ridesharing company, which has long been in the shadow of the larger Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER), are down 77% since its IPO in 2019. Both ridesharing stocks were overpriced when they went public, and both tumbled when the pandemic started, but since then, their performances have diverged. Uber stock has soared as the company has brought costs under control and delivered steady growth, reinforcing its competitive advantages. Based on its weak stock performance, you might expect to hear that Lyft lagged behind Uber in growth, but that isn't the case. Its revenue growth has been faster than Uber's over the last year. Lyft has now reported 16 straight quarters of double-digit percentage gross bookings growth. It made strides on the bottom line as well. Last year, it reported a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) profit for the first time. In 2025's first quarter, Lyft reported adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of $106.5 million, which was nearly double what it booked a year before. Lyft also reported free cash flow over the last four quarters of $919.9 million due in part to a large increase in insurance reserves. With Lyft's market cap at less than $7 billion, the stock trades for less than 8 times trailing free cash flow. That's one good reason to bet that Lyft can double over the next three years. Let's take a look at a couple of others. Unlike Uber, Lyft has historically only operated in North America, but the company made a big move in April, paying $200 million to acquire FreeNow, a ride-share platform in Europe that was owned by BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The move essentially doubles Lyft's addressable market by giving it exposure to nine countries and more than 150 cities. The deal, which is expected to close in the second half of the year, should increase the company's annualized gross bookings by about $1 billion. That's less than 10% of Lyft's current gross bookings, but the growth opportunity is what's most valuable here. Additionally, FreeNow's revenue increased 13% in 2024, and the operation has reached break-even. FreeNow will continue to operate under its own brand, but Lyft plans to roll out new benefits for riders and drivers and integrate the apps so that riders can use either one in North America or Europe. Lyft also continues to improve its service with new features and innovations. For example, it just rolled out Lyft Silver, a feature directed at older riders that makes the app easier to use and makes customer service more readily available. The goal is to more effectively appeal to a market that's soon to reach 70 million Americans. Currently, the over-65 demographic makes up just 5% of Lyft rides. The company also introduced Price Lock, a feature that allows customers to lock in their prices for regular commutes for a small fee, rather than risking a jump from surge pricing, or "prime time" pricing, as Lyft calls it. And it rolled out a new AI earnings assistant for drivers that's designed to help them maximize the value of their time on the road. Overall, Lyft has growth opportunities thanks to the acquisition of Freeform and its track record of innovation, which has allowed it to take market share from Uber at times. The stock is also trading at an attractive price-to-sales ratio of just above 1, and its low free cash flow ratio is setting it up to buy back shares, which could give a boost to the stock price over the long term. If the company can maintain its growth rate and improve its profitability, doubling in the next three years seems achievable for the stock.
