Kidnapped Bloemfontein learner still missing as cop's case delayed again
It has been three weeks since the kidnapping of 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi. SAPS have deployed maximum resources to find the missing Martie Du Plessis Special School Bloemfontein learner.
Bloemfontein Courant reports that according to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, investigations are ongoing and maximum resources have been deployed.
Free State police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane told Bloemfontein Courant that external communication has been cut off due to the sensitivity of the case.
The case of the 42-year-old police officer charged with kidnapping and extortion was first heard on June 13 and initially postponed to yesterday to allow for an ID parade with the victim, who is still missing.
It has now been further postponed to Monday.
Free State launches school safety campaign
The Free State Department of Education launched the Provincial School Safety Campaign a week after Kamogelo's kidnapping. According to the department, the campaign aims to reignite conversations around bullying, gangsterism, gender-based violence, sexism, and substance use in schools.
'Our schools are not always the safe spaces they ought to be. For too many children, walking into a classroom comes with anxiety, not assurance,' said HOD Adv Tsoarelo Malakoane at the launch at Tjhebelopele Primary School in Bloemfontein.
Motheo education director December Moloi shared concerning statistics, calling for intensified parental involvement and contributions from all corners of society.

Suspect arrested after 8 killed in Umlazi shooting
KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has commended the arrest of a suspect in connection with the recent brutal mass murder that shocked the community of Umlazi. This follows the arrest of a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of eight people on May 16 at the Zama informal settlement in U-section, Umlazi, south-west of Durban. The victims – six men and two women aged between 22 and 40 – were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds. According to the police report, the incident took place when unknown armed men entered the informal settlement and opened fire. Eight victims died on the scene. The mass killing, which claimed multiple lives and left families shattered, drew national attention and widespread condemnation. Ntuli visited the affected area and called for a multi-agency response to restore peace and strengthen community policing. In a statement today, Ntuli hailed the arrest as a significant breakthrough. 'This arrest is a clear indication that our law enforcement agencies are capable, committed, and determined to restore safety and dignity in our communities. We commend the SAPS, the Hawks, and all intelligence-led operations that worked relentlessly around the clock to ensure this progress,' Ntuli said.
