Renard and Le Sommer out of France Euro 2025 squad
Captain Wendie Renard and all-time leading goalscorer Eugenie Le Sommer have been left out of France's 23-player squad for next month's Euro 2025 in Switzerland.France, who are looking to win a major tournament for the first time, will face England in their Euro 2025 opener on 5 July, 20:00 BST.Neither Renard, 34, or Le Sommer, 36, were selected for their Women's Nations League victories over Switzerland and Iceland in the past week - decisions manager Laurent Bonadei said were "not made in the spur of the moment".Centre-back Renard, who has played 168 times for France since making her international debut in 2011, missed three of the past four internationals because of injury.Grace Geyoro, Sakina Karchaoui, Sandie Toletti, Pauline Peyraud-Magnin and Mbock are among those who have worn the captain's armband in Renard's absence.Le Sommer, who has scored a record 94 goals in 200 appearances for France, featured for just 27 minutes of those games, and was due to be honoured last week before the victory over Switzerland in Nancy. After omitting Renard and Le Sommer from his Nations League squad last month, Bonadei said: "As Einstein said: 'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.' I want different results for this team so I have gone with a different selection."It's something I've been thinking about since the start of the season. "When I announced that everyone had a chance, that no one was indispensable, in my mind it wasn't just about giving young players a chance but also players who had suffered psychologically after the Olympic Games and making sure that everyone was involved."France were beaten 1-0 by eventual silver medallists Brazil in the quarter-finals of their home Olympics. The squad features four Women's Super League players - Chelsea duo Sandy Baltimore and Oriane Jean-Francois, Kelly Gago of Everton and Manchester United's Melvine Malard.Former Lyon winger Delphine Cascarino has been recalled to the squad, though she is expected to miss the beginning of tournament preparations because of her schedule with club side San Diego Wave.

England football ace Millie Bright leaves fiancé & falls for married personal trainer ‘in a big way'
'The fall-out has been enormous, but Millie has fallen hook, line and sinker for her ideal man', claims an insider Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ENGLAND football ace Millie Bright has left her fiancé and fallen for a married personal trainer. The Lionesses defender, 31, pulled out of Euro 2025 this week — stating she was unable to 'give 100 per cent mentally or physically'. It is understood he has now left his wife and is living at Chelsea captain Millie's luxury house. There is no suggestion either of them cheated on their partners. Pals said Millie — who won Euro 2022 and led England to the World Cup final in 2023 — met the trainer last year after starting to work out at a gym in Redhill, Surrey. Sources say she later struck up a friendship with the married dad, who we are not identifying. Earlier this year she split from Levi, and the trainer broke up with his wife 'out of the blue'. A source told The Sun: 'Millie's shock withdrawal from the England squad ahead of Euro 2025 left fans open-mouthed. 'She has always loved playing for her country, and spoke of her pride in doing so.' They went on: 'She has fallen for this guy in a big way, and that has come with some big sacrifices. "The fall-out has been enormous, but Millie has fallen hook, line and sinker for her ideal man.' England Lionesses announce squad for Euro 2025 after THREE withdrawals Other sources close to Millie stressed her withdrawal was based purely on her need for an operation to fix a long-term injury. Millie and Levi shared a home in Surrey and their families were close. In December 2023, she announced their engagement on social media, flashing her diamond ring on holiday in Mauritius. She has referred to Levi as her 'king' who was with her 'through thick and thin'. She even has a tattoo of his eye on her arm which has been shown prominently in official squad photos. But fans noticed she had removed any mention of him from her social media accounts and deleted the engagement post. Millie has undergone minor knee surgery after a stellar season with Chelsea, winning the treble and finishing unbeaten domestically. She said pulling out of the upcoming Euros in Switzerland 'was not an easy decision', adding: 'I just don't feel 100 per cent mentally or physically in a position to go on and compete in a tournament.' She aimed to 'get myself back in tip-top condition and just happy again, I think, all round, just feeling like myself'. England's first game is against much-fancied France on July 5. Last night a spokesman for Millie declined to comment.

£4million a DAY migrant hotel bill will continue to spiral unless Labour does three things
Trip advisors THE woke brigade in the Home Office who spent years revolting against Tory efforts to curb illegal migration finally have an incentive to drop their opposition. Sensibly, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has said she will spare deep cuts in the department — and potential job losses — IF it saves money on the spiralling hotel bill for migrants. 1 And the faster Home Secretary Yvette Cooper's army of leftie civil servants meet these new targets, the more cash she can keep for other projects. Skint Britain forks out £4million every day to house people who largely have no right to be here. The problem is that the number of new arrivals isn't slowing down. Unless Labour ends the golden ticket to the El Dorado paradise of benefits, free housing and illegal work, that hotel bill will continue to rise. Reform act He has Labour pedalling leftwards over welfare and the Tories rightwards on immigration. The Reform leader's ear is well-tuned to discontent with the Government. A desire for real change has delivered control of local councils to his fledgling party for the first time. His problem now is how to show Reform can actually govern — without falling into mini-meltdowns like the ones caused by the exits of chairman Zia Yusuf and MP Rupert Lowe. Reform's surge has been stunning. But being a one-showman band will only get Farage so far. Court out COULD the days of the European Court of Human Rights ruling over our borders finally be numbered? Even the head of the European Council, which oversees the unelected court, is starting to accept it will have to adapt to the public's concerns. Leaders across Europe are waking up to the problems caused by mass migration and want urgent legal reform. And Tory leader Kemi Badenoch is ready to quit the court — as is Reform. Roll with it Apparently, it all kicked off in Tokyo after tourists saw a waxwork of Greggs' pastry snack at Madame Tussauds. No word yet on whether it tasted better than a vegan sausage roll.
