Gill-Pant-Jaiswal Match Massive Feat By Tendulkar-Dravid-Ganguly With Triple Hundreds
Last Updated:
Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal matched a 22-year-old feat by Tendulkar, Dravid, and Ganguly, scoring hundreds at Headingley.
India Test skipper Shubman Gill, his deputy Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal on Saturday, June 21, matched a 22-year-old feat by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and former captains Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, to become the second trio from India to score individual hundreds at the Headingley.
The veterans' centuries then paved the way for a huge Indian victory over England, and the next generation of Indian stars' brilliant effort has given their team a potential shot at a famous win.
If anything, the centuries from the youngsters were a statement about India's never-drying batting fountain.
23 years back, the centuries by the veterans and India drawing the Test series heralded a new chapter in the nation's cricketing landscape as it started to wash away the tag of tigers at home.
But the task that awaits the likes of Jaiswal and Gill is quite different. India are now a side adept at touring, but they need to step into the huge shoes of some stalwarts who made the side a force to reckon with away from home.
Having opted to bat first, India lost Virender Sehwag in just the seventh over. Sanjay Bangar and Dravid then built a 170-run partnership for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by Andrew Flintoff.
Dravid and Tendulkar then added 150 runs for the third wicket before the former was dismissed by Ashley Giles. Tendulkar and skipper Ganguly then built a match-winning 249-run partnership before the latter was bowled by Alex Tudor. India declared their innings on 628/8.
England began their first innings well, with Rob Key and Michael Vaughan adding 67 runs for the opening stand before the former was dismissed by Zaheer Khan. Vaughan and Mark Butcher then added 42 runs for the second wicket, before the latter was caught plumb by Anil Kumble.
England soon found themselves at 185/7 in the 64th over, before wicketkeeper Alec Stewart and Giles added 70 runs for the eighth wicket. Once the latter was dismissed by Kumble, England folded for 273.
The hosts were asked to follow on, and after losing Vaughan in the 10th over, Key and Butcher added 48 runs for the second wicket. After Key was dismissed by Kumble, Butcher and skipper Nasser Hussain added 40 runs for the third wicket.
After Butcher was dismissed by Sanjay Bangar, Hussain and John Crawley added 32 runs for the fourth wicket, before the latter was dismissed by Bangar.
Hussain and Stewart then built a 117-run partnership before the former was dismissed by Kumble. England soon found themselves at 267/7 in the 95th over, before Giles and Andy Caddick added 32 runs for the eighth wicket.
Once Giles was run out by Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh, England folded for 309, slumping to an innings defeat.

Karun Nair Reveals 'Comfort' Factor Ahead Of Test Comeback: 'Rahul And Prasidh...'
Last Updated: Nair, after eight years, is set to solidify his place in the Indian Test team against England. He's comforted by the presence of childhood friends KL Rahul and Prasidh Krishna. As he seeks to capitalize on an opportunity that has arrived after eight years, Karun Nair says the presence of childhood friends KL Rahul and Prasidh Krishna brings a comforting familiarity to the Indian dressing room. The five-match Test series against England, starting on Friday, presents Karun with a chance to solidify his place in the team, years after becoming only the second Indian batter to score a triple century in Test cricket. 'I try to keep it very simple, always think about the positive, have certain goals in mind, visualize things and have real belief in what you visualize. 'Playing alongside Rahul and Prasidh is also a very comforting factor. We've played cricket for so many years since probably we were young kids and grew up together," Karun told BCCI in a video posted on its website. Karun and Rahul, both 33, have played age-group cricket together and have been close friends ever since. 'Life has come a full circle because I went out of the team in England and now I am coming back into the team in England. It's been a while and I embrace that." He was dropped from the Indian team in 2017. 'My first thought when I woke up (after being dropped) was I want to play Test cricket, I want to play for India again. That's probably what kept me going, kept me hungry and was the driving force to train and practice every day. 'I had a goal to play Test cricket again. Every day, every morning I used to wake up thinking what should I do to reach that goal. Never losing that belief and having that target to reach was something that helped me," he added. In the 2024–25 domestic season, Karun amassed 863 runs in nine matches at an average of 54, helping Vidarbha clinch their third Ranji Trophy title. The season revived his Test career as he made his return to the Indian Test side for the tour of England. 'Mentally I am more patient and I am more forgiving of myself. I have learnt to enjoy small things a little more and also not trying to be someone that I am not. I have tried to keep it very simple. I always think about positives, have certain goals in mind, visualize things and have real belief," Karun said. 'Feeling honoured to wear this jersey and honoured to be representing my country." Karun said the realisation of making the Indian team again came to him when he met the touring group. 'When I saw everyone for the first time, that was when I realised I am finally in the team. Till then, it was a wait for me to start feeling I have made it again," he said. 'It's been a few years, I used to watch everyone on TV and to be back again in this dressing room feels amazing." 'I enjoy the feeling with everyone, enjoy the feeling of wearing this jersey, just going out there and having fun with everyone in the group and trying our best to win games for our country." IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill were talking in Hindi during Shoaib Bashir's spell due to...
Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. (PIC - X) New Delhi: The Indian team performed brilliantly in the first innings of the first Test match against England and scored 471 runs. Captain Shubman Gill, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and vice-captain Rishabh Pant scored centuries for India. Gill and Pant shared a big partnership of 209 runs for the fourth wicket, which helped India cross the 450-run mark. 7 wickets lost after scoring 112 runs: India started the second day at 359 for three, but after the lunch break the entire team was all out for 471 runs. India lost its remaining seven wickets on Saturday after adding 112 runs. If India could not touch the 500-run mark, the credit goes to Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue who bowled brilliantly on the second day. During this, the weather also supported the fast bowlers as most of the time the conditions were overcast. The disappointing thing for India is that despite three batsmen scoring centuries, the team could not touch the 500-run mark. Sachin Tendulkar posted on social media: Former Indian team batsman Sachin Tendulkar noticed one thing about Gill and Pant's partnership. Sachin told that Gill and Pant were talking in Hindi during the spell of England spinner Shoaib Bashir. He told what was the strategy behind this of these two batsmen. Sachin wrote on X, Rishabh's falling paddle sweep is not accidental. It is done deliberately and very cleverly. Going down with the shot gives him a chance to scoop it over leg slip with control.
