Man Utd's £51m transfer target responds to rumours he could replace Andre Onana

Kaua Santos has distanced himself from rumours that he could be set for a move to Manchester United, insisting he remains 'entirely focused' on Eintracht Frankfurt.
The young goalkeeper left Flamengo's academy to join Eintracht in 2023 and went on to make his first senior appearance for the Bundesliga outfit in a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg last September.
But Santos suffered a cruciate ligament tear in Eintracht's Europa League quarter-final second leg defeat to Tottenham and the serious knee injury brought the 22-year-old's promising debut season to a premature end.
Now on the long road to recovery, the highly rated Brazilian is not expected to return to action until autumn at the earliest.
Despite sitting on the sidelines for the past two months, Santos has remained in the spotlight, with some of Europe's elite clubs said to be plotting moves for the former Flamengo shot-stopper.

Old Trafford has been mooted as a possible destination for Santos after United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, met with Eintracht's chief Markus Krosche in April to discuss a proposed £51million deal.
The Red Devils are believed to have identified Santos as a potential target on the back of another unconvincing campaign for Ruben Amorim's error-prone number one Andre Onana.
But when quizzed on United's interest in a wide-ranging interview with German newspaper Die Welt, Santos stressed that he was not even thinking about leaving Eintracht.
'The management at Eintracht Frankfurt have shown tremendous confidence in me,' Santos said.
'They wanted to continue working with me before these rumours even surfaced.
'They still have a lot of faith in me here, so it was clear to me that I decided to extend my contract [last October].
'I want to establish myself as a goalkeeper, perform well and achieve as much as possible.'
Asked if he had ambitions to lift major trophies with Eintracht, Santos replied: 'Of course. If I compete, I want to win.
'The club has shown repeatedly with the DFB Cup and Europa League victories, as well as with our Champions League qualification, that great things are possible here.
'I want to help repeat such successes.'
United are not alone in tracking Santos' progress, with Bayern Munich reportedly eyeing the youngster as a possible long-term successor for Manuel Neuer.
On these rumours, Santos said: 'Manuel is a role model for every goalkeeper.
'Every goalkeeper who comes along now has learned from him.
'I'm not busy with anything else at the moment because my entire focus is on Eintracht Frankfurt.'
Santos picked out fellow countrymen, Alisson Becker and Ederson, as his two greatest inspirations in the modern game. More Trending
'I especially look up to my two compatriots Alisson Becker and Ederson,' he explained.
'They're among the best goalkeepers in the world and I watch a lot of videos of both of them.
'With Alisson, I pay particular attention to his positioning and his behaviour in one-on-one duels with the strikers. I've improved a lot in that area since then.
'Ederson is world-class on the ball. That's why I've been watching how precisely he holds his foot when passing and the decisions he makes.'

Man Utd's true feelings on Bryan Mbeumo U-turn as Spurs attempt to hijack deal

Bryan Mbeumo is being chased by both Manchester United and Tottenham, with Spurs looking to take advantage of their recent appointment of Thomas Frank as their new manager Manchester United are remaining relaxed over their move for Bryan Mbeumo with Tottenham still attempting to hijack the deal. Mbeumo grabbed the attention of top Premier League clubs with a stunning season for Brentford. After Ivan Toney's move to the Saudi Pro League, Mbeumo became the Bees' main man. He duly stepped into that role, scoring 20 league goals to help Thomas Frank's side to finish 10th in the top-flight. ‌ He has one year to run on his contract, with a club-held option for another 12 months. The London side are likely watching with relish as an auction over Mbeumo emerges between United and Spurs. ‌ Both sides are keen to add to their attacking options, with Tottenham also hoping to use the fact that Frank is now their manager to their advantage. United saw a £55million offer rejected before Spurs moved for Frank. And now the Dane is in place across the capital, Mbeumo is more open to joining his boss at the Europa League champions. If Mbeumo did snub a move to Old Trafford to join Spurs, it would be a major blow to United's summer plans. They have already missed out on signing Liam Delap, with the Englishman opting to join Chelsea instead. Despite the threat of Mbeumo also snubbing them, BBC Sport claim that United are 'not concerned' that their move for the attacker will fall through. Mbeumo spoke out on the speculation around his future ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday. While he wished Frank well, United are not reading anything into his interview. Spurs have held initial discussions over a move, but Mbeumo's future is currently in something of a holding pattern. He was quizzed on the speculation on Sunday, but opted to largely avoid making any definitive statement. ‌ "It (transfer speculation) is a bit new for me I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it," Mbeumo told Sky Sports. "It's been my best season so far in the Premier League. And even collectively, I think we did play very good games. I think we've been unlucky to chase the Europe spot, but I think it's been a fantastic season. "He's [Frank] done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I'm sure he's going to do well. ‌ "I think he knows everything. He's really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team, how he wants to play. I think he's been fantastic for Brentford. I think he's going to have some time to adapt, obviously. "[ Champions League ] games, more expectations, as you said, but I'm sure he's going to do well. He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group. And that's why we've been playing so well."

Gareth Bale in talks to become surprise co-owner of English football club

US investment groups have increasingly used celebrity faces to front their takeovers of English football clubs, with Gareth Bale the latest to be tapped up to full that role Gareth Bale is in talks to front an American takeover of League One side Plymouth Argyle. The Pilgrims were relegated to the third tier this season following a disastrous reign of Wayne Rooney as manager. Rooney was sacked in January after winning just four games to be replaced by Miron Muslic. But the Bosnian decided to take over the head coach role at side Schalke after Plymouth's relegation was confirmed. ‌ Former Watford manager Tom Cleverley is their third boss of the past 12 months and has been tasked with leading them back to the Championship. But Cleverley himself could have a new boss. ‌ Cleverley was appointed by current Argyle chairman Simon Hallett. But Hallett has been looking for fresh investment in the club for the past year, having become the majority shareholder in 2018. A deal for further investment fell through last month, but the interest of a US-based private equity group is growing. They are now looking to bring in a celebrity face in the form of former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Bale. According to the Daily Telegraph, Bale is being lined up by the group eyeing a takeover of Plymouth. Talks between the club and the group are ongoing, with Bale's involvement an unexpected addition to the story. The Welshman has no historic connection to the Home Park side. But US groups have increasingly looked to partner with famous faces in any deals to buy clubs operating below the Premier League. Bale's former team-mate at Spurs and Madrid, Luka Modric, is involved with Swansea City. NFL legend Tom Brady has invested in Birmingham City, while golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas have bought shares in Leeds United. ‌ It is unclear how Bale has become involved in the project. He won three La Liga titles and five Champions Leagues during his time at Madrid, before retiring in 2023 after a short spell with Los Angeles FC. Relegation came as a bitter blow for Argyle, with the club finishing three points from safety. Hallett has led significant off-field investment, with the South Coast side redeveloping their Mayflower Grandstander and funding new academy facilities. Amid the talk over fresh investment, Hallett has pledged to match the level of funding a new group brings in this season. Though he admitted last month that he felt new investment was not forthcoming. ‌ 'We have been in talks with a prospective new investor in our club for over a year – those talks led to an application for approval of that investment being lodged with the EFL in February,' he said at the time. 'Unfortunately, negotiations have taken too long and the key information that both we and the EFL required to complete the deal has not been forthcoming. I no longer believe that news of the new investor is imminent.'

Hibs boss David Gray has revealed the one quality he looks for in every single training session – even if it leaves some of his players complaining about workload. And the gaffer is already looking forward to the planned new indoor facility at East Mains, as the prospect of escaping the worst of the east Lothian winters opens up new possibilities for the coaching staff. The bulk of the Hibs squad report back for pre-season on Friday, with international players given extra time off. Along with the strength and conditioning experts at Hibernian Training Centre, Gray has put together a programme intended to make sure his squad peaks for that first competitive fixture of the season – a vital Europa League qualifier on July 24 . Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad If the young manager's first full season is any guide, the emphasis will be on short, sharp and occasionally brutal sessions. With little room for respite. Gray, who has picked up lessons on getting the balance right not just from his playing days but as a member of the backroom staff under Jack Ross, Shaun Maloney, Lee Johnson and then Nick Montgomery, put his own stamp on proceedings when he took over as manager last summer. His focus on working defenders hard, especially, clearly paid off – eventually – as Hibs climbed from the foot of the table to finish third in the Scottish Premiership courtesy of a spectacular rally over the second half of the campaign. Rocky Bushiri reaped benefits despite grumbles Laughing as he admitted not every member of the squad enjoyed the pace set out at HTC, Gray revealed: 'I think we do train at a really high intensity especially in the early parts of the week. And especially defenders. 'I think if you speak to Rocky (Bushiri) he'll say training is too hard at times! But I think he's massively benefited from that because he's in fantastic form. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'He's in peak condition in terms of how I've seen him since he's been at the football club. And that's down to how hard he trains. 'The harder you train, especially early in the week, makes you more ready for the game so I think the stronger you can be. Especially defenders because they're all about concentration and being as fit as you can for later moments in games. 'But we do train properly in my opinion properly, with a real intensity. Every manager sees it differently - train in different ways, have different programmes in terms of what their working week looks like. 'That's something I've adapted over the time of working with the four coaches that I've worked with, every single one of them worked in a different way. It just depends how the coach wants to train. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'I've worked differently as a player, I've done different things as a player, so I've probably put a bit of that into it as well. 'I know the demands of Scottish football, know what it's like at HTC Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in the winter when the wind is howling. How much quality work are you going to get in? 'Then it's pouring with rain and then it's snowing two seconds later and everything that comes with that. So trying to put everything together, I think we've got quite a good blend and balance of that this year.' Gray impressed by East Mains training ground plans Hibs have completed a land swap for a prime piece of ground near the existing HTC site, with club owner Ian Gordon declaring his intent to build new facilities – including a full-sized indoor pitch – at a facility now being used by both the men's and women's first teams, as well as academy sides. With work due to begin in 2026, Gray is eager to benefit from the new set-up. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The former Scottish Cup-winning captain said: 'One thing is Ian's very keen to get moving as quickly as we can. He wants to keep investing in the club and keep moving the club forward so it will be fantastic. 'The plans that I've seen are all geared to moving the club forward again and trying to get it into the next level. It'll take time, it always does, there's all sorts of planning and organisation to go into it but the sooner - I know Ian's wanting to push this forward as quickly as he can, so it'll be massively beneficial for the club as well.'
