Spark Education Platform Embarks on its 2nd Acquisition in KSA and Acquires Majority Stake in Qimam El Hayat International School
Riyadh، January 29، 2025
،
Spark Education Platform (SEP)، a fast-growing K-12 operator in KSA، owned by the Saudi Education Fund (SEF)، which is managed by EFG Hermes، announced entering into definitive agreements to acquire a majority stake in Qimam El Hayat International School in Riyadh. This strategic move further solidifies SEP's position in the Saudi education market، complementing its recently announced acquisition of 4 schools in the Kingdom. SEP will aim to unlock the school's next chapter of growth by relocating the school to a new fit-for-purpose campus، increasing the school's capacity by more than 50%.
Established in 2005 as a nursery serving 80 students، Qimam El Hayat has experienced remarkable growth over the past two decades. In 2006، the school expanded to offer international education for grades K-4، serving 1،000 students. By 2012، the school evolved into a full K-12 educational institution with a total capacity of 3،000 students، offering the American Curriculum.
This acquisition aligns perfectly with SEP's expansion strategy in the region. By adding Qimam El Hayat to its portfolio، SEP strengthens its offering of high-quality international education in KSA، leveraging its expansive experience in transforming and growing high-potential schools. The leadership team of Qimam El Hayat will be retained as part of the transaction to leverage the team's expertise in driving the school's future growth.
Ahmed Wahby، CEO of Spark Education Platform
، commented on the acquisition: 'We are thrilled to welcome Qimam El Hayat International School to the SEP family. This investment represents a significant milestone in our growth strategy and underscores our commitment to providing excellence in education across KSA. Qimam Al Hayat's strong reputation and proven track record make it an ideal addition to our portfolio in this key segment.'
'This move، coupled with our recently announced acquisition of 4 additional schools in Riyadh، positions SEP as a major player in the Saudi education sector. SEP will capitalize on its experience، exceptional capabilities in educational innovation، cutting-edge technology، progressive academic approaches، comprehensive teacher professional development programs، and holistic student learning and character education to support Qimam Al Hayat's continued growth and success. SEP is working very closely with Qimam Al Hayat's leadership team on our ambitious plans to avail of two newly transformed school buildings، adding a capacity of 1،500 students in modern fit-for-purpose campuses. The announced transaction will grow SEP's portfolio to 8 schools with over 10،000 enrolled students spreading across KSA، UAE، and Bahrain.'
Wahby added
.
Dr. Omar Sulaiman Alajaji، Chairman of Qimam El Hayat International School،
expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: 'Joining forces with SEP opens exciting new opportunities for our school community. SEP's vision aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing quality education. We are confident that this partnership will enhance our ability to deliver exceptional educational experiences to our students and support our dedicated staff in their professional growth.'
In November 2024، EFG Hermes announced the launch of its USD 300 million Saudi Education Fund (SEF)، aimed at establishing a world-class K-12 educational operator in KSA. This initiative was in response to the growing student population in private schools، projected to more than double as part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030، highlighting the critical need for strong educational operators to meet this demand.

Turkiye-Based AI Firm VenueX Raises $1.2 Million to Expand into MENA
Istanbul-based startup VenueX raised $1.2 million to accelerate its entry into the UAE and Saudi markets, aiming to scale its AI-powered platform that connects digital ads to in-store sales. Jun 13, 2025 VenueX, a Turkiye-based AI startup focused on retail marketing automation, has raised $1.2 million in a bridge investment round to support its expansion into the Middle East and North Africa. The round was led by Singapore's Orbit Startups, with participation from Re-Pie, Akkök, and Akyasam. Founded in 2022, VenueX launched its unified digital advertising platform in April 2024, and has since onboarded 25 paying clients. The platform helps retail brands connect their digital advertising spend to in-store sales using AI agents that analyse budgets, inventory, and customer behaviour in real time. The aim is to create data-informed, automated campaigns that minimise manual oversight. With the new capital, VenueX plans to establish offices in Dubai and Riyadh, build local sales and market teams, and scale its partnerships across Turkiye. The company also intends to grow its internal teams in growth, data science, and business development, while continuing to evolve its platform into a fully autonomous marketing solution. Current development goals include enhancing AI agents for inventory optimisation, creative generation, and customer segmentation. VenueX's expansion comes amid rising regional demand for AI-driven retail tools that can bridge online customer acquisition with offline conversion—particularly in digitally transforming markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Egypt & Saudi Arabia Form Council to Boost Bilateral Cooperation
The council will be jointly chaired by President El-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has officially approved the formation of the Egyptian-Saudi High Coordination Council, marking a new phase of institutionalised cooperation between Cairo and Riyadh. The move follows Presidential Decree No. 55 of 2025 and reflects the longstanding historical and strategic relations between the two nations. The council, agreed upon by both governments, will be jointly chaired by President El-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. It will comprise ministers and senior officials from both sides, representing key sectors relevant to the council's mission. Each side will appoint a secretary responsible for coordination and implementation, ensuring streamlined communication and execution of council duties. The council's objectives include strengthening bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors—political, security, economic, trade, investment, education, health, agriculture, environment, culture, industry, technology, communications, transport, digital cooperation, infrastructure, and energy. Meetings will be held regularly on a rotating basis between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, with the flexibility to convene extraordinary sessions when needed. Supporting preparatory committees may also be formed to advance the council's work. The council's framework includes a joint governance mechanism developed by both secretaries, outlining the structure, roles, and coordination protocols. This will be subject to approval by the two heads of state, ensuring strategic alignment and operational clarity.

Private Sector Bank Claims in Saudi Arabia Reach SAR 3 Trillion
Credit to private businesses and individuals rose 15.2% in April 2025, totalling SAR 3.012 trillion. Private sector banking claims in Saudi Arabia have reached SAR 3.012 trillion as of April 2025, marking a 15.2% year-on-year increase, according to new data from the Saudi Central Bank. The figure reflects total credit issued to non-government entities, including businesses and households, and highlights continued expansion in the Kingdom's financial sector. The rise in private sector lending is supported by strong domestic demand and aligns with ongoing efforts to diversify the economy under Vision 2030. The latest increase also follows a 10% year-on-year growth in time and savings deposits, which reached SAR 949.7 billion by the end of 2024. Credit to the private sector now accounts for the bulk of bank lending activity in Saudi Arabia. The trend has drawn attention from ratings agencies such as Fitch, which forecast that Saudi banks would maintain one of the highest credit growth rates in the region throughout 2025.
