Stage set for Prime Minister's Journalism Award ninth edition
The Prime Minister's Journalism Award has launched its ninth edition for 2025, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The award highlights the role of Bahraini journalism as a vital partner in the comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Through its continued contributions, the national press has supported Bahrain's ongoing progress and played an active role in advancing the goals of Bahrain's Economic Vision, earning recognition for its commitment to public service and national development.
Established in 2016, the annual award reflects the support of HRH Prince Salman for Bahraini journalism and its vital role in national development.
It encourages professional excellence in media and promotes the press's role in constructive public discourse and in articulating the aspirations of society.

MPs review harsher penalties for deadly traffic offences
TDT | Manama Tougher punishments for traffic offences that cause injury or death are being reviewed by Parliament's Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee. The panel is studying several proposed changes to the Traffic Law in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, which has been closely involved in the process. Guilty At present, those found guilty face between three months and a year behind bars, a fine ranging from BD1,000 to BD3,000, or both. If someone dies as a result, the punishment is doubled. That means a minimum of six months in prison and a fine of at least BD2,000. Speeding is also in the frame. Penalty Under Article 50 of the law, anyone caught driving more than 30 per cent over the speed limit faces a similar penalty: no less than three months in jail and a BD1,000 fine, or either one. If there is a death, or the same offence is repeated within 12 months, the sanction is doubled. The committee said it had gone over these clauses line by line and was now weighing proposed changes. It wants stronger consequences for dangerous behaviour behind the wheel, especially when it puts lives at risk. Views The Ministry of Interior has been involved throughout and continues to share its views with lawmakers. The committee said it would keep studying any new input from the ministry, particularly in light of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister's instruction to look again at penalties for road offences that result in serious harm or loss of life. That instruction, the committee said, puts the safety of road users at the top of the agenda.

Bahrain Cabinet Reviews Tougher Traffic Penalties in Weekly Meeting
The Cabinet, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reviewed proposed amendments to Bahrain's traffic laws aimed at increasing penalties for serious traffic violations. During the weekly Cabinet session held at Gudaibiya Palace, the Cabinet discussed a memorandum presented by the Minister of Interior in response to directives from HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The memorandum calls for tougher legal measures targeting violations that result in injuries or fatalities, with increased fines and stricter sentencing. The amendments will also address dangerous driving behaviors that pose a risk to public safety, aiming to reduce road accidents and protect lives. The proposed legislative changes are part of a broader national effort to prioritize traffic law enforcement and public safety, reinforcing the government's commitment to safeguarding all road users. In other matters, the Cabinet extended its Eid Al-Adha greetings to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the people of Bahrain, and praised Saudi Arabia's preparations for the Hajj season, which have improved organizational readiness and enhanced services for pilgrims. The Cabinet also lauded the outcomes of the second ASEAN-GCC Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, where HRH Prince Salman led Bahrain's delegation. The Cabinet highlighted HRH's visionary remarks calling for global cooperation on sustainable development and an international treaty to govern artificial intelligence ethically. Further, the Cabinet emphasized the importance of HRH's recent visit to Malaysia, including key meetings with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as a boost to bilateral ties between Bahrain and Malaysia. Domestically, the Cabinet reaffirmed its support for Bahrain's media sector, congratulating the winners of the 2025 Prime Minister's Press Award and the Bahrain Journalists Association on its 25th anniversary. It also recognized the achievements of top-performing students for the 2024–2025 academic year and commended the Ministry of Education's modern teaching practices. In recognition of World Environment Day, the Cabinet reiterated its commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation through innovative policy solutions.
