Who is Srikanth, Tamil actor arrested by Chennai Police for buying cocaine?
The Chennai Police on Monday arrested Tamil actor Srikanth over drug abuse charges and brought in for questioning at the Nungambakkam police station, reported multiple media reports.
The police reportedly collected Srikanth's blood samples and sent them for testing. However, after a detailed interrogation, they arrested him for alleged links with Prasad. He has not been formally charged yet, and the police maintain the proceeding will remain evidence-based.
Earlier, the Chennai police had arrested Prasad, a former AIADMK functionary, while investigating a pub brawl in the city. Police discovered the involvement of drugs during the probe, which led to the expansion of the investigation.
As per the details, Prasad is an expelled AIADMK IT Wing member from Mylapore and was taken into custody after a brawl at a private bar. In that incident, local rowdy Tsunami Sethupathi and others were also involved.
On being interrogated, Prasad admitted to supplying of drugs – cocaine – to Srikanth. He added that Srikanth allegedly bought 1 gram of cocaine for ₹ 12,000. Prasad even alleged that Srikanth had used drugs at private parties in Chennai. Apart from Srikanth, actor Krishna's name also surfaced and he too is being investigated.
Born in Chennai to a Tamil mother from Kumbhakonam and a Telugu father from Chittor, Srikanth was raised in Hyderabad.
His father used to work with the State Bank of India. Srikanth lost his older brother to dengue following his return from the United States.
Srikanth uses his name as Sriram in Telugu films to avoid confusion. he married Vandana on 7 September 2008 and has two children.
After making an acting debut in 1999 with the television series Jannal - Marabu Kavithaigal, he made his big screen debut with the Tamil film 'Roja Kootam' in 2002. He appeared in his first Telegu film 'Okariki Okaru' in 2003.
Among his notable films include Manasellam, Varnajalam, Kana Kandein, Oru Naal Kanavu, Bambara Kannale, Mercury Pookkal, East Coast Road, Poo, Sathurangam, and Nanban.
His recent work includes the Tamil films Konjam Kadhal Konjam Modhal, the Telugu film Erracheera, and the JioCinema web series Harikatha, reported Times Now.

Actor Srikanth arrested after police seize cocaine from his city residence
Actor Srikanth CHENNAI: Tamil film actor Srikanth, 46, who has acted in 54 movies including 11 in Telugu and five in Malayalam was on Monday arrested by the Chennai police in connection with a cocaine smuggling racket. The arrest followed the detention of T Prasad, an AIADMK IT wing functionary who is suspected to have supplied the drug to the actor. Srikanth was taken into custody after police recovered cocaine from his residence and confirmed drug use through medical tests. Police said they were probing the involvement of another Kollywood actor, whose identity cannot be revealed at this stage. It all began on June 17 when the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) of the city police arrested Pradeep Kumar alias Prado, 38, of Salem and John, 38, a Ghana national in Nungambakkam for possession of 11g cocaine. Based on information provided by Pradeep, police learned that the drug was sourced from T Prasad and sold to Srikanth at a pub in Nungambakkam in May. Police subsequently raided Srikanth's residence in the Nungambakkam Lake area and recovered small quantities of cocaine kept for 'personal use'. Srikanth was detained for questioning and later arrested after his blood samples tested positive for narcotics. Further investigations into his activities led to the unearthing of multiple criminal links, including drug trafficking, a job scam and attempts to influence police officials. At least six cases have been registered against him so far. He was detained under the Goondas Act as well. Sources said two police personnel — sub-inspector Mani Durai and constable Senthilkumar — were also arrested on charges of assisting Pradeep Kumar in a fake job racket. Senthilkumar, who served as the personal security officer to CPM MP Su Venkatesan, was picked up from Madurai and brought to Chennai on Thursday. The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the arrest of Wazahat Khan, the main complainant in the case against social media influencer Sharmistha Panoli, in all FIRs registered against him outside West Lal Mitra, Khan's advocate, told India Today, 'All the FIRs have been stayed by the honourable Supreme Court. The apex court has also said, no coercive action can be taken against him until further order.'advertisementA bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and N Kotiswar Singh passed the interim order and issued notices to the Union government and the states of Assam, Delhi, Haryana, and West Bengal, asking them to respond to Khan's plea seeking consolidation of FIRs registered against him in multiple states. The matter will now be heard on July 14. During the hearing, Justice Viswanathan made strong oral observations on the nature of Khan's posts. 'There's a famous Tamil saying, a wound inflicted by fire may heal, but not a wound inflicted with tongue,' he said. The judge also remarked, 'These hate speeches lead us nowhere,' and said that incitement to violence need not always be physical, it can be verbal too. 'Does it have to be physical violence?
