Kyoji Horiguchi will have to wait a bit longer to make his return to the UFC cage.
The former UFC flyweight title challenger, former RIZIN champion and former Bellator champion Horiguchi is out of his scheduled octagon comeback fight against Tagir Ulanbekov at UFC on ABC 8 for undisclosed reasons.
Replacing him against Ulanbekov (16-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) on the June 21 card at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+) will be Azat Maksum (15-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC).
Two people with knowledge of the situation verified the new matchup to MMA Junkie following an initial report from Red Corner MMA.
Ulanbekov, 33, is riding a three-fight winning streak in the flyweight division, including two by finish. Maksum, 30, meanwhile, will attempt to rebound from his first career loss against Charles Johnson after starting his career with 15 consecutive victories.

UFC 316's Waldo Cortes-Acosta plans Serghei Spivac KO, enter heavyweight title contention

Waldo Cortes-Acosta feels he's on the cusp of title contention, and it's hard to disagree. The Dominican heavyweight has quietly put together an impressive run in the UFC, picking up six wins in the seven fights he's had since joining the promotion. These victories include two knockouts, and several notable names such as Ryan Spann, Robelis Despaigne, Chase Sherman and former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. Advertisement This Saturday at UFC 316, Cortes-Acosta (13-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) looks to continue to bolster that resume and go on a five-fight winning streak when he takes on top-10 ranked heavyweight Serghei Spivac. He thinks a win over Spivac (17-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) will open up big opportunities for him in the division. "Yeah, I do feel the attention and the importance of the event," Cortes-Acosta told Hablemos MMA in Spanish. "This fight can push me, can catapult me to the top, and put me in the title conversation. Maybe I win this one, one more after that, and I'm ready for a title shot, God willing." Cortes-Acosta has his path to victory mapped out for Spivac. Avoid the ground game and keep the fight in his realm. "I see it as a striker vs. wrestler," Cortes-Acosta said. "I don't think he has the hands to match me in the octagon. Like I've said, every fight I'm evolving. I never stop evolving. I feel stronger and I'm heavier now." Advertisement There are high expectations for Cortes-Acosta in this matchup. He sees himself finishing the "Polar Bear" "I expect the knockout," Waldo-Acosta said. "Come Saturday, I'll be knocking on the door, and it will be opened." ESPN's Adam Schefter had a very interesting take regarding new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter had a very interesting take regarding new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers finally made a decision on where he will be playing in 2025, as he informed the Pittsburgh Steelers that he intends to sign with them. Advertisement But not everyone was all positive about the move. In a recent post on X, ESPN's Adam Schefter had a very interesting take about the Steelers signing the 41-year-old QB. "Steelers and Aaron Rodgers need each other," Schefter wrote. "The Steelers have lost six straight playoff games, their longest postseason losing streak in team history. Rodgers hasn't won a playoff game since the 2020 Divisional Playoff, a 32-18 win against the Rams on Jan. 16, 2021 — 1,601 days ago." It may be true that the Steelers have lost six straight playoff games because of the fact that they have not found a consistent starting QB since Ben Roethlisberger retired. But that does not exactly mean that they absolutely needed Rodgers to be their field general. Advertisement As for Rodgers not winning a playoff game since 2020, he has not played with a player who was named to the Pro Bowl since that season. While that does not mean that he has had no help, it does play a factor in him not winning a postseason game since 2020. But think about it: The Steelers don't win playoff games and either does Rodgers. How in Schefter's wacky mind do those two wrongs add up to being a right? Rodgers will be looking to prove this season that signing with the Steelers was the right move, as he ideally helps lead the team back to the playoffs to redeem themselves after their early exit this past season.
