Fact Check: Breaking down Texas house raid where ICE detained more than 40 people, including minors

As protesters demonstrated across Los Angeles in response to raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in June 2025, a rumor circulated online about an earlier raid in which Texas authorities, along with the FBI and ICE, allegedly detained several minors.

The raid did, in fact, take place. According to an April 2, 2025, news release (archived) from the Texas Department of Public Safety, "more than 40 individuals, including minors, were taken into custody at or near the residence, and narcotics were seized." It's unclear how many arrests took place at the location in question and how many happened "near the residence," as the news release worded it.
The release said that after more than a year of investigation, Texas authorities raided the house, alleging it was a suspected gathering of members from the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. In the two-plus months since the raid, as of this writing, authorities have not publicly released any evidence supporting their claims.
We reached out to the Texas DPS seeking comment and further details, and will update this story if we receive a response.

AUSTIN — For more than a year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and several other federal, state and local partners, have been investigating members and associates believed to be part of the Venezuelan transnational gang, Tren de Aragua (TdA).
In recent days, the FBI developed intelligence regarding a possible gathering of suspected TdA members or TdA associates in Hays Co.
Early Tuesday morning [April 1, 2025], the Hays Co. Sheriff's Office and DPS, working with the FBI, ICE, Homeland Security Investigations and Enforcement Removal Operations, established sufficient cause to obtain a search warrant for a residence in Hays Co., which was executed by DPS' Special Response Team. As a result of this operation, more than 40 individuals, including minors, were taken into custody at or near the residence, and narcotics were seized.
State and federal prosecutors will evaluate potential charges based on evidence obtained during the search warrant and subsequent investigation.
This case is currently under investigation. More details will be released as they become available.

The Texas Tribune published the search warrant used for the raid, which details the Austin property where the raid took place. Photos of the address match the description in the search warrant, which described the house as "a white rock and concrete stucco siding residence with dark in color trim and a dark in color shingle roof. There is a stairway leading up to the front door. The location is a two story residence with a side building/living area with a large in ground pool in the back yard."

According to the Tribune story (archived), published on June 4, 2025, several people present at the raid said in interviews that relatives and friends had rented the house to celebrate a pair of birthdays when authorities conducted the raid at approximately 5 a.m. April 1. The story read:
Suddenly, at about 5 a.m. the next morning, the group heard explosions from flashbangs, followed by shouts from law enforcement yelling commands to get out of the house, according to interviews with two attendees.
"We all started shouting that there were babies — 'Babies, there's babies,'" recounted a 30-year-old Venezuelan man, who said he was at the house to celebrate the birthdays of his son, who turned 5, and his best friend, who turned 28.
Law enforcement did take minors into custody, although authorities did not publicly confirm how many of the "more than 40" people detained were children. The Tribune obtained public information documents and identified 35 of people taken into custody, reporting that nine of them were minors. Snopes has not independently reviewed this documentation.
The Tribune's report claimed that "ICE has refused to release the names of who was detained and where they are currently," and that "all 35 were arrested on suspicion of illegally entering the country, a federal violation, and the government intends to deport them, DPS reports show."

California Sen. Alex Padilla appeared on MSNBC's 'The Beat' for his first interview following his forceful removal from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's Los Angeles press conference Thursday, giving correspondents a glimpse behind the viral moment. I understand their sacrifice to just find the American dream, a good opportunity, maybe a good job, the ability to raise a family, and have the next generation have it a little bit better than you did,' Padilla told MSNBC with tears in his eyes. 'All the talk about immigration, you know, the — the misinformation, disinformation about, you know, invasions and insurrections, it's all B.S. coming from Trump.' Soboroff noted that the senator was raised by a father, who was a short order cook, and a mother, who was a housekeeper. After studying at MIT, Padilla returned to his hometown to rise the ranks in the public sector and serve his community. He told MSNBC that the Trump administration's targeting of immigrants is misguided. 'If all they were going to do is target violent, dangerous criminals, true threats to our national security, that'd be one thing. Nobody has a disagreement there,' he said. 'What's happening in practice is so many — yes, undocumented — immigrants, but who are otherwise law-abiding, peaceful and hardworking, to think this administration changed policy for federal agents to enter schools, houses of worship, let alone workplaces? If immigrants are that bad, why is that where you're looking for them?' The senator also responded to Noem's claims that he 'lunged' at her during the press conference. 'That's ridiculous. It's a lie, but par for the course for this administration, right?' he said. Padilla was down the hall in the federal building waiting for a scheduled briefing that had been pushed back because of the Secretary of Homeland Security's press conference, he said. The senator said he was escorted into the conference room to listen, but he had to speak up. 'At one point, it was just too much to take,' he said. 'This notion that Donald Trump and Kristi Noem have to come in and rescue the people of Los Angeles from Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass? It was too much. And so I spoke up. I introduced myself and said I had a question.' Geraldo Rivera: Sen. Padilla's removal a ‘bad look'
(NewsNation) — NewsNation correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera said Thursday he believes Democratic California Sen. Alex Padilla's removal from a DHS press briefing in Los Angeles was rough handling and was a 'bad look' for the law enforcement officers who restrained him. 'The United States senator has a right, even if it's a stunt, to get in front of a camera and have a dialogue with Kristi Noem,' Rivera said. Video shared of the incident shows Padilla being restrained by law enforcement and forced out of the room and him later being pushed to the ground and handcuffed. In the video, Padilla is seen interrupting the conference held by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, looking to ask her questions. FBI head Patel suing MSNBC columnist over nightclub hopping claims DHS accused Padilla of failing to identify himself and stated that he 'lunged toward' Noem. However, in the video, Padilla identifies himself as he moves toward the front of the room. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the agents who removed Padilla acted 'completely appropriately' in assisting Secret Service officials. Riverdale man charged with sexually assaulting, giving alcohol to underage teen, documents say

RIVERDALE, Utah () — A 28-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting an underage teenage girl after giving her alcohol. Kyle Anthony Hird, 28, has been charged with two felony counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16/17-year-old and one misdemeanor charge of knowingly offering alcohol to a minor. According to documents, a juvenile victim contacted police on Feb. 3, 2025. She told officials that someone she knew from work, Hird, had invited her to his residence the night before. There, he gave her alcohol and sexually assaulted her, and she did not consent but 'was too intoxicated to stop' him. Daycare employee charged with sexually abusing children, documents say Using the victim's Snapchat, a Riverdale City Police officer contacted Hird and asked what had happened the night before. Hird allegedly responded that he would only speak about the incident in person, saying, 'Please understand I cannot get in trouble for anything, my kids can't [lose] their dads and s–.' Police located and interviewed Hird regarding what happened. He allegedly denied providing the minor victim with alcohol and said that no sexual contact had happened. However, Hird did acknowledge that he was aware of her age. A search warrant for Hird's DNA was filed and approved. On June 11, 2025, the forensic report from a Code R Kit (used to test for sexual assault) performed on the victim provided 'very strong support' that Hird's DNA was a match. Hird has been booked into the Weber County Jail and is currently being held without bail.
