Raiganj univ scientists discover new species of soil bacteria

1 2 3 Malda: Researchers at Bengal's Raiganj University have discovered a new species of soil bacteria that exhibits strong antimicrobial properties and significantly enhances seed germination, indicating its immense potential in promoting plant health and productivity. The bacterium was isolated from the rhizosphere of mulberry plants, a key component of the region's sericulture and farming systems. The newly discovered species has been named Bacillus ayatagriensis, inspired by the name of the lead scientist Amit Kumar Mandal's daughter Aayat. The name combines "Aayat", derived in Sanskrit as "Ayata" and "Krishi", meaning agriculture. Will instruct schools on water bell initiative, says Minister

School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Friday said that circulars will be sent to all the schools on introducing the water bell initiative in Tamil Nadu, like in Kerala. Speaking to reporters, the Minister praised the Kerala government initiative, the water bell, which ensures students drink water at regular intervals. 'The Kerala government has implemented the scheme for the past two years. The Tamil Nadu government is providing morning breakfast to the students. We will send circulars to all the schools in Tamil Nadu regarding the water bell initiative,' the Minister added. Earlier at a function organised at Hosur Government Urdu Higher Secondary School in Krishnagiri district, the Minister inaugurated STEM Innovation and Learning Centres at 16 schools in the district at a cost of ₹4.44 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility funds. Mr. Mahesh said that there are 83 STEM Innovation and Learning Centres across India. Of those, 33 are in Tamil Nadu and 16 centres are in the Krishnagiri district. The American India Foundation, in collaboration with the School Education Department, has set up these centres with the aim of promoting hands-on, inquiry-based learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students are provided with robotics kits, 3D printers, coding skills, and digital tools to develop critical thinking and innovation skills. Aiming to address early literacy challenges through the Literacy Training Centre, it focuses on basic literacy development among primary school students. It uses structured teaching methods and individualised support to help children achieve grade-level proficiency in reading and writing, he added. Stating that technology is not equal to a teacher teaching a lesson in front of 40 students in a classroom, the Minister said that teachers use various learning tools to make the subjects easy for students to understand. Therefore, students should listen to the instructions given by the teachers and follow them. Parents should not compare their children with other students. Since every student has different talents, teachers and parents should discover and bring out the talents they have, he added. Speaking at the Urdu Teachers' Conference, the Minister said that, as per the 2001 census, in India there are 52 million Urdu-speaking people, which is 6% of the country's population. Urdu is one of the oldest languages. There are many literary works and poems in Urudu. Many Urdu poems explain life's philosophy. Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had said that Urdu was an Indian language. Government will always protect Urdu-speaking people, the Minister said.

‘M3GAN 2.0' movie review: The killer doll is back to slay it slowly

M3GAN, about a killer robot doll who believes it is only doing what it is programmed to, enlivened January 2023 with buckets of gore and grins. The sequel, M3GAN 2.0, switches the programming from straight-up slasher to a mix of Terminator and Mission: Impossible, to create a film that moves as jerkily as its protagonist, with markedly fewer laughs. Director Gerard Johnstone and writer Akela Cooper return, as do horror specialist James Wan for producer duties. Returning cast includes Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald, Jenna Davis, Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps. Two years after the events of the previous film, Gemma (Williams), the roboticist who created M3GAN, is now a writer and advocate for the ethical use of AI. Christian (Aristotle Athari), Gemma's boyfriend, seems to be on board with her AI-with-responsibility principles. Her niece, Cady (McGraw), who came to stay with Gemma after the death of her parents, is equally interested in science and soccer and has a secret robotics project hidden under a photo frame of her parents. M3GAN 2.0 (English) Director: Gerard Johnstone Starring: Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ivanna Sakhno, Jemaine Clement Storyline: The killer robot is brought back from storage to fight another psychopath robot with dreams of world domination Runtime: 120 minutes After the M3GAN debacle, Gemma is working with Cole (Alvarez) and Tess (Epps) to create labour-saving devices to keep the company afloat. When an Autonomous Military Engagement Logistics and Infiltration Android, AMELIA (Ivanna Sakhno), goes rogue and kills the scientist it was meant to rescue and steals the neurotoxin he was developing, Army colonel Tim Sattler (Timm Sharp) seeks Gemma's help. After a sticky start, where Cady attacks the military and FBI agents who come to their house in Home-Alone style, Gemma reluctantly agrees to get M3GAN (Donald, voiced by Davis) up and running. Since she does not fully trust M3GAN, she puts the robot's operating software in a plastic Teletubby body with the promise of giving her a body upon good behaviour. ALSO READ:Claudia Doumit to join 'M3GAN' spin-off 'Soulm8te' After breaking into wicked tech bro Alton Appleton's (Jemaine Clement) party, where AMELIA is already up to its dirty tricks, the stakes are raised as AMELIA is set to lay waste to the Earth in an effort to get back to its family—a self aware system from the '80s. The time has come to rebuild M3GAN with a 'few' enhancements. M3GAN 2.0 would have benefitted if it had been 30 minutes shorter. There are call backs to Terminator and Mission: Impossible from the use of air conditioning vents as a mode of ingress to a secure space and high altitude jumps to good versus bad terminators. The crazy spider walk is there briefly and M3GAN's sarcastic comments are chuckle inducing. As it is, M3GAN 2.0 just about manages to keep one's interest. M3GAN 2.0 is currently running in theatres
