Man indicted after stolen gun falls from pocket while running from DC police
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. man was indicted Friday as part of the 'Make D.C. Safe Again' initiative, officials announced.
Don Diego Chase, 25, is accused of firearm and drug offenses, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia.
DC man indicted on firearms charges after committing 'lewd' acts
Court documents state that on July 24, 2024, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers were in the U Street Corridor when they saw someone later identified as Chase. Police tried to stop him, but he ran away. Officers chased after him.
The USAO said that during the chase, a 'black, L-shaped object' allegedly fell from Chase during the pursuit.
Officers recovered the object, which was a stolen and loaded firearm. During a search after Chase's arrest, officers also found more than 500 Oxycodone pills and over $11,000 in cash.
MPD discovered that Chase was not licensed to carry a gun in the District. He also had prior convictions that kept him from owning a gun or ammunition.
Chase is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to distribute Oxycodone, and using, carrying, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

A son murdered his mother, and was then allegedly shot dead by his older brother, during a family dispute in Alabama on June 8, according to police The mother was described on Facebook by a family friend as 'an exceptionally kind individual who will truly be missed" A local church plans to hold a celebration of life service for the family members on June 21A son murdered his mother, and was then allegedly shot dead by his older brother, during a family dispute, authorities said. Officers responded to a shooting incident in Auburn, Ala., at around 5:39 p.m. local time on Sunday, June 8, when they found Traci McDuffie, 52, and her son Brandon, 25, dead inside a home, the Mobile Police Department (MPD) said in a news release. 'The investigation revealed Brandon McDuffie fatally shot his mother, Traci McDuffie, and that's when Traci's other son discovered what occurred,' police said in the release, then claiming that Brandon 'shot towards the other son, causing the other son to defend himself by shooting Brandon." Brandon and Traci got into an argument, which resulted in the first round of gunfire, NBC 15 reported, citing authorities. MPD Public Information Officer Blake Brown told the outlet, "Once the initial shooting did take place, there was some sort of communication to let the other son know." The MPD said in its news release, "The death of Brandon McDuffie will be presented to a grand jury," while Traci's "death has been abated by" her son's. The second son was identified in a post on Facebook from the First Baptist Church of Baltimore Street, Inc. as 32-year-old Brent McDuffie, Traci's eldest child. It is not immediately clear if Brent was arrested or currently faces any charges. "Please continue to lift Brother Brent McDuffie and the family up in prayer during their time of bereavement,' the church wrote in its social media post. The First Baptist Church of Baltimore Street, Inc. added that it plans to hold a celebration of life service for the family members on Saturday, June 21. Traci was described on Facebook by a family friend as 'an exceptionally kind individual who will truly be missed.' The woman's sister said following her death, 'There is nothing bad that can be said about her. She was a hard worker and loved her live music," per a Facebook post from WALA Fox 10 reporter Ariel Mallory. Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Man faces nearly a decade in prison for stomping on man's head at Navy Yard Metro Station
WASHINGTON () — A man was sentenced to under a decade in prison for a violent assault that happened at a metro station last summer. The charges against 20-year-old Rashad King stem from an unprovoked incident that happened at the Navy Yard Metro Station shortly before midnight on July 20, 2024. The U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) said King approached a man and started punching him until he fell to the ground. He then stomped on the victim's head more than 20 times before taking his bag. 'No Kings' events to protest Trump, military parade happening Saturday He used the bag as a weapon to strangle the man for about eight seconds and then fled from the station, court documents described. An off-duty FBI agent saw the encounter and saw King get on a Metrobus. He then flagged down a police officer and pointed him out, leading to his arrest. Officers gave the victim aid until medics arrived. At the time, he was reportedly unconscious and had 'massive swelling to the right side of his face,' according to court documents. Due to his severe injuries, he was not able to provide an immediate statement. His injuries were life-threatening and resulted in a broken nose, a brain bleed and stitches to his face. He was expected to have permanent brain damage. King pleaded guilty earlier this year to aggravated assault while armed. He was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison and ordered to undergo five years of supervised release. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
