El Clasico: La Liga standings do not matter, Barca's focus is on giving everything, says Hansi Flick
Barcelona: FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick believes his team will need to be at their highest level for Sunday's clash against Real Madrid and claimed his side will not think about the potential of them inching closer to the La Liga trophy.
Barca have dominated Madrid this season, beating them 4-0 at the Bernabeu earlier in the league, 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup Final in Riyadh, and 3-2 at La Cartuja in the Copa del Rey Final. Hansi Flick is looking to make it four out of four against the all-whites. Only one manager has got off to a better start than that as Pep Guardiola won five from 2008 to 2010.
'Everyone knows that in the El Clásico, you have to be at your highest level. This is what the team has to do tomorrow. We want to see the intensity on the pitch, the dominance. We all know Real is a fantastic team, but we play at home. I am really appreciative of our fans, and they support us a lot,' said Flick during the pre-game press conference.
The El Clásico could prove to be the La Liga title decider. FC Barcelona currently sit four points clear of Los Blancos in the table, and a win would take them within touching distance of the trophy, but Flick remained adamant that his players will be
'When you ask the players, they want to win the El Clásico. It does not matter what effects it has on the table. The only focus is to give everything for the three points,' he said.
There is good news for Barca as it has been announced that both Alejandro Balde and Marc Casado are back to full fitness, and are available for selection by Hansi Flick in Sunday's crunch game at home to Real Madrid.
Marc Casado had suffered a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, which was confirmed on March 18. Meanwhile, Balde went down injured against Leganes on April 12, sustaining a distal biceps femoris injury in his left thigh.
The return of the defensive duo further strengthens Flick's side after striker Robert Lewandowski returned for Barcelona in the second half of the 3-4 loss against Inter Milan in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday (IST)
'I don't think either Balde or Lewandowski will start El Clásico, maybe they will get minutes in the second half. Gerard Martin is doing very well. Szczesny will start in goal,' he said.

"Obviously, I'd be feeling very differently if it took me out of the race, but it is good to see that he took accountability. I was a bit surprised about that." Verstappen avoided talking about the incident after the race, but admitted on social media 24 hours later that he had done something that should not have happened. He was penalised and dropped from fifth to 10th and was also given a three-point penalty on his driving super-licence, taking him to 11 points. If he reaches 12 in the next two races he will be given a one-race ban. "It wouldn't be unjust," said Russell. "At the end of the day, that's why the penalty points are there. If you keep driving recklessly you will accumulate points and get punished with a race ban. "You've got it in your own hands and it doesn't go without risk." Russell added that he did not expect Verstappen to change his aggressive style. "I don't think so, but it depends on the circumstances, doesn't it? When you are going for a championship, it's slightly different. "That's why I believe he wasn't intentionally trying to crash into me. He was just trying to get his elbows out and show who's boss, but he got that wrong -- Jos (Verstappen's father) is the boss!" Russell said he had briefly spoken to Verstappen since their clash, but they did not talk about the incident. "We bumped into each other at the airport on Sunday morning when I was going to Roland Garros. To be honest, I totally forgot about Barcelona because he was there with his new-born and we were at the security machine. "We just had a quick chat and then he was busy folding the pram down to put it through the machine."

Alexander-Arnold says signing for Real Madrid is dream come true
Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold described his move to Real Madrid as "a dream come true" in a speech he delivered in Spanish at his official presentation at the LaLiga club on Thursday. Liverpool-born Alexander-Arnold left his boyhood last month in a tearful farewell after securing his second Premier League winner's medal, before joining Real on a six-year deal. Lance Stroll refuses to discuss wrist injury specifics ahead of home Canadian Grand Prix
Lance Stroll cited 'medical privacy' Thursday in refusing to discuss the specifics of the wrist injury or medical procedure that kept the Formula 1 driver from participating in the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks ago. The Aston Martin driver has been cleared to compete this weekend at his home Canadian Grand Prix, but he was short on details about his injury. Aston Martin has said only that Stroll, the son of the team owner, underwent a 'successful medical procedure to resolve the symptoms' and that he completed test laps in France to earn clearance for Sunday's race in Canada. The 26-year-old Stroll did not elaborate further. The team previously said Stroll had been experiencing pain for six weeks and doctors believed the problem was related to a medical procedure he underwent in 2023 following a cycling accident to treat fractures to both wrists and a broken toe. 'Pretty confident. Should be good,' Stroll initially offered Thursday in Montreal. He only revealed a bit more after persistent questioning. 'It was bothering me for a few weeks over Imola, Monaco and then Barcelona was just really brutal throughout the weekend,' Stroll said. 'I got a procedure done and drove this week and I was feeling pretty good, so I'm confident it's just the old injury that I had with it a couple of years ago. It just started to bug me again and yeah, just got it sorted.' When asked which wrist was treated, Stroll said: 'That's my right one,″ in reference to the hand he refused to remove from his pocket during Thursday's news conference in Montreal. Stroll has scored only 14 points this season while teammate Fernando Alonso has struggled to just two points as Aston Martin has endured a tremendous drop-off in performance. Stroll also downplayed reports he had a meltdown in the Aston Martin garage following a poor showing in qualifying at the Spanish GP. 'I was frustrated, for sure, frustrated about my wrists and last three races from Imola — it was inhibiting my driving,' Stroll said. 'I knew that Sunday was going to be tricky, probably impossible and at that point I was pretty frustrated about it.' Prior to that, Stroll said he'd been trying to drive through the pain. 'As an athlete, in any sport, you're always trying to push through the pain, discomfort, as much as you can and try to get a good result,' Stroll said. 'In that situation, I was struggling and I was trying to push through it and it just didn't feel sensible to push anymore. Felt like the damage was getting worse and I needed to do something more serious about it. 'I don't want to really get into detail about what I had to do and how I had to do it because it's just my medical privacy and I like to keep that confidential.'
