Bihar: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar plants tree in memory of his late parents at LN Mishra College
Muzaffarpur (Bihar) [India], June 24 (ANI): Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday planted a tree in memory of his late parents, Kesari Devi and Gokal Chand, at Bihar's LN Mishra College of Business Management, accompanied by a state minister, Nitish Mishra.
'Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today planted a tree in memory of his late mother, Smt. Kesari Devi and late father Shri Gokal Chand in the campus of LN Mishra College of Business Management, Muzaffarpur, Bihar,' read a post by the office of the Vice President.
VP Dhankhar is in Bihar's Muzaffarpur to attend the founder's day event in LN Mishra College.
Earlier, as the VP landed in Bihar, he was welcomed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary and Minister Vijay Choudhary.
Earlier on June 23, Dhankhar said that strengthening Bharat is the governing philosophy and resolve of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, while speaking at the launch of the book 'New World: 21st Century Global Order in India' by Ram Madhav in Delhi.
'Friends, today, strengthening Bharat is the governing philosophy and resolve of this government. It is steadfast, firm, non-negotiable, and notwithstanding the critics -- it is spinally strong. The nation has never projected its stand so firmly. Let us not be misguided by the distraction -- who said what,' Dhankhar said.
'The government, and India and its people, stand firmly for the nation--nation first and our nationalism....Those who take a stand for momentary situations are not in the psych or groove of Bharat. Once we attain strength inwards, we can shape our strategic environment outwards,' he added.
The Vice-President also said that browsing through the pages of 'New World: 21st Century Global Order in India', he felt the imprint of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in the author's thought.
Dhankar said, 'Savarkar, despite all the untenable misgivings and misgivings in extremity, remains a celebrated thinker who stood at the wee hours of the post-war order. Savarkar, a staunch realist, believed in a post-war world where nations would act only in pursuit of their own interests, not based on idealism, morality or international solidarity.' (ANI)

Mahayuti to fight most local body polls together, may take smaller allies like the MNS on board
MUMBAI: The coordination committee of the three ruling parties comprising the Mahayuti alliance met on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the local body polls scheduled to be held after the monsoon. The parties, in their preliminary discussion, decided to contest the maximum local bodies together and also tap the possibility of joining hands with smaller parties, including the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). (ANI Photo) (Deepak Salvi) The committee, comprising two leaders from each party, met at the official residence of tourism minister Shambhuraj Desai. Desai and industries minister Uday Samant represented the Shiv Sena while the NCP's state unit chief Sunil Tatkare and medical education minister Hassan Mushrif represented the Ajit Pawar-led party. The BJP had its state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule and working president Ravindra Chavan present at the meeting, which went for more than two hours. According to the BJP leaders, the coordination committee discussed the possibility of fighting the polls together. 'Our top leaders have directed us to face the polls together as the Mahayuti alliance, but some of the local bodies, especially in key cities, could be exceptions,' said a leader. 'In those bodies, two of our three parties may join hands while the third party might go solo if it is beneficial for the alliance. The coordination committee reviewed in which bodies we could fight the polls together. In some municipal corporations like Navi Mumbai and Pune, the parties can tap the possibilities of going solo.' The politicians also discussed the internal survey reports based on various possibilities, including fighting the polls together or separately. A survey was conducted to tap the popular opinion on what would happen if the two Thackeray cousins Raj and Uddhav came together. 'The leaders are gauging the benefits of joining hands with Raj Thackeray,' said a Sena leader. 'They are also estimating if allowing him to fight alone in urban bodies like Mumbai, Thane, Nashik and Kalyan-Dombivali will help the ruling alliance. The Mahayuti leaders firmly believe that the two cousins are unlikely to come together and have chalked up strategies accordingly.' The coordination committee also discussed two contentious issues: the proposed introduction of Hindi as a third language in schools, and farmers' opposition to the Shaktipeeth Expressway. The Shiv Sena and NCP are reportedly wary of people's reactions on these two issues and want further deliberation on them with the BJP. After the discussion, the BJP's state core committee comprising CM Devendra Fadnavis, Bawankule, Chavan, ministers Chandrakant Patil and Pankaja Munde, senior leader Sudhir Mungantiwar and Sanjay Kute are scheduled to meet on Thursday. 'The core committee will discuss the party's stand on the alliance for the local body polls and the demands by our other two allies to take the preliminary discussion forward,' the BJP leader quoted above said. Desai told reporters after the meeting that the Mahayuti had decided to fight the elections together and retain its strike rate in the assembly elections when it won 240 seats as an alliance. 'There are minor difficulties in fighting together and dismay at the local level but that will be resolved by our leadership,' he said. 'We also discussed the sharing of statutory boards and government committees between the three parties. We will meet again next week for further discussions.' After the cabinet meeting, deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde held a 45-minute meeting at the latter's office in Mantralaya. While the details of the meeting remain under wraps, it is believed that the leaders discussed the clearing of funds for Shiv Sena MLAs ahead of the local body polls.

Mosque loudspeaker row hots up
MUMBAI: A petition in the Bombay High Court; a meeting of imams in Govandi; and a delegation that tried, unsuccessfully, to meet deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar – these moves over the last two days reflect the disquiet among Mumbai's Muslims against the police's ongoing efforts to remove loudspeakers from mosques. The five institutions are all in Parksite, Vikhroli, where former MLA Arif Naseem Khan of the Congress has been active in the matter. They are represented by senior counsel Yusuf Muchhala and A Karim Pathan of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights. On Tuesday, Samajwadi Party state president Abu Asim Azmi, MLA from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar, addressed a gathering of 200 imams and masjid committee members in Govandi, under his assembly constituency. He urged them to demand that the police show them the order that directs them to remove loudspeakers. 'If they cannot show you the order, tell them to give instructions in writing,'' he said. This is easier said than done, the imams told Hindustan Times. 'The police have a fixed modus operandi. They tell masjid committee members that masjids in the adjacent area have voluntarily removed their loudspeakers, and it's best they do the same, or else they would be sent a notice. That's enough to pressurise the committee members, many of whom not comfortable arguing with a group of policemen.'' Imran Qureshi is among the few who did ask the police to show him the order which directed the removal of loudspeakers. 'They cited the high court order. But the court has not said that loudspeakers should be removed; it has only said that the volume must be kept low,'' said Qureshi. Since the police neither showed him the order, nor gave him written instructions, Qureshi refused to remove the loudspeaker from the mosque, where he is a committee member. On Monday, the Govandi Citizens Welfare Forum also sent emails to the police and Chief Minister's Office, protesting the removal of loudspeakers 'without notice, explanation or due process, in violation of our fundamental rights'. Pointing out that there was no ban on azaan through loudspeakers, and also that other places of worship continued to use loudspeakers, the forum requested that top-rung police officers call a meeting of community representatives to resolve the issue. In Govandi, Maulana Abdur Rehman Ziyahee claimed BJP leader and former MLA Kirit Somaiya has been collaborating with the police in the removal of loudspeakers. Somaiya also tweeted on Sunday that the police in Bhandup, Chembur and Govandi had told him that all loudspeakers from masjids in their respective areas had been removed. Interestingly, Azmi said he would not raise the matter in the upcoming monsoon session of the legislature because 'every time I raise an issue that concerns Muslim rights, the BJP manages to polarise the atmosphere.''
