Feel Good Friday: Local radio host faces battle with leukemia
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – For over 4 decades, Mike Sullivan was a constant presence in the Eau Claire broadcasting community, the voice behind thousands of battles for Chippewa Valley athletes. Now, Mike and his family face a battle of their own. 'It's kind of a one day at a time sort of thing. You just… you don't know what's going to happen and you can't control it anyway. So, one day at a time.'
That's been the mantra for the Sullivan family since Mike's leukemia diagnosis in February, as rounds of treatment continue. 'At this point, they're just kind of doing a round of chemo, a little bit of rest round of chemo, hoping that at some point it just helps.'
As bills continued coming in, though, Mike's Medicare and insurance reached their limit. 'It's difficult enough to deal with a situation like this for someone that you love, but then to have financial difficulties on top of that, it's the last thing you really want to think about or even have the brain bandwidth to think about.'
Mike's daughter Katie turned to the community for support, posting a GoFundMe to help pay for the treatment. In just a week, their $10,000 goal was surpassed. 'We are so, so touched by the outpouring of support from the community. It's more than we had ever, ever hoped for. It really means a lot to our family.'
Through tenures at Z-100 morning show and WBIZ radio, Mike's connections go nationwide, with support coming from across the United States. 'It's amazing how many people have reached out that my dad worked with 20-30 years ago and players that he did play by play for again 20-30 years ago, that it's like I wouldn't even guessed that they would even remember him. It's just nice to have so many people all over the place thinking about us at a time like this.'
While donations will continue to be accepted, Katie noted another, more sentimental way to support their family. 'Memories and messages on Facebook to either him or me are certainly welcome and prayers. We are people of faith. We appreciate prayers and… and just good thoughts.'

Michigan State makes top 4 for 3-star OT Quinn Buckey ahead of commitment on Friday Michigan State has been named one of four finalists for a three-star offensive lineman prospect set to announce his college decision on Friday. Quinn Buckey of Bakersfield, Calif. revealed his top four schools this week, with Michigan State making the cut. According to Buckey's post on social media platform X, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Arizona and UCLA are the four finalists he is considering at this time. Buckey will officially announce his college commitment on Friday. Buckey is a three-star prospect, with a recruiting rating of 87 on 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 75 offensive tackle in 247Sports' composite rankings. He is also listed as the No. 76 player from California and No. 879 overall prospect in the class. Michigan State hosted Buckey for an official visit in April and has been in the mix for his commitment for quite some time. However, Vanderbilt is currently projected to land his commitment per 247Sports. So we will have to see if the Spartans can make a final push to persuade him to end up in East Lansing, Mich. instead of down in SEC country. Florida basketball to face Duke Blue Devils in 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge
Florida basketball to face Duke Blue Devils in 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge NEWS: Matchups are set for the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge, per sources. UF @ Duke UNC @ UK UVA @ Texas NC St @ Auburn Clemson @ Bama LVille @ Ark OU @ Wake SMU @ Vandy A&M @ Pitt Miss St @ GT Miami @ Ole Miss LSU @ BC VT@SC Tenn @ Cuse Mizzou @ ND UGA @ FSUhttps:// — Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) June 11, 2025 The Florida Gators are set to face the Duke Blue Devils in a marquee matchup during the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge, according to a report from CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein. The highly anticipated matchup between two of college basketball's premier brands will take place in Durham, North Carolina, as part of the annual conference showdown. The 2025 edition features several headline-grabbing matchups, but few are bigger than the Gators traveling to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on Duke. This will mark Florida's first matchup against the Blue Devils since 2017, when the Orange and Blue were defeated in an 87-84 nail-biter. Some of the leading scorers from that game include Florida's Jalen Hudson (24 points) and Marvin Bagley III (30 points) from Duke's side. Florida and Duke have met 16 times dating back to their first matchup on Feb. 26, 1932, with the Gators winning just three of those contests against the powerhouse Blue Devils. The ACC/SEC Challenge has quickly become a staple of the nonconference schedule, offering fans high-stakes showdowns before conference play begins. For Florida, the road test presents an early opportunity for Todd Golden to get his players prepared for what's expected to be a grueling road to another championship run. The Gators are bringing back a strong core from last year's national championship team, including elite guard play and one of the top transfer classes in the country. Duke, meanwhile, continues to reload with top-tier recruiting talent. Other notable matchups in the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge include North Carolina at Kentucky, Clemson at Alabama, NC State at Auburn, Virginia at Texas and Louisville at Arkansas. Tip-off times and television assignments for the Florida-Duke game will be announced at a later date. Jay-Z loses $1 million NBA Finals bet on Thunder as Tyrese Haliburton, Pacers spoil wager

The music mogul, who is married to Beyonce, is winning off the court, but essentially lit $1 million on fire when he wagered on the Thunder to win the NBA Finals in five games at Fanatics Sportsbook. With the Thunder's loss in Game 3 dropping them into a 2-1 series hole, his bet, which would have profited $2.3 million, is now dead. Jay-Z is an investor in Fanatics, with Darren Rovell pointing out on X that Jay-Z invested $350 million into the sports memorabilia giant turned betting company in 2021. The Thunder were 5.5-point favorites entering Wednesday's Game 3 but fell short in a 116-107 loss. Jay-Z lost a $1 millon bet on the Thunder in just a week. Getty Images for The Recording A Indiana wore the young-gun Thunder down by the end of the fourth quarter by turning Wednesday's game a track meet, just like they did to the Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals. Coach Rick Carlisle's strategy of full-court defense combined with fast-paced offense gave the Thunder fits by the time the fourth quarter rolled around while Oklahoma City protected a five-point lead. Tyrese Haliburton went for 22 points nine rebounds and 11 assists in Game 3. Getty Images The Pacers are still big series underdogs despite the win, coming in at +195 odds at Fanatics while the Thunder are -235 favorites. The Over/Under for games played in this series is 6.5, with the series to go seven games having +100 odds at Fanatics and Under six games sitting at -125. Betting on the NBA? It is still possible the series ends in five games, as the Pacers would just need to win the next two games to close out Oklahoma City in a gentleman's sweep, although that's the least likely series outcome. Pacers to win in five games has +1000 odds at Fanatics. Why Trust New York Post Betting Erich Richter is a brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt but he has a black belt in MMA betting.
