UAE Announces Eid Al Adha Holidays For Public Sector
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources in the UAE on Wednesday announced Eid Al Adha holidays for federal government employees.
The four-day holiday will commence on Thursday, June 5, and will extend till Sunday, June 8.
Government offices will close during these days, allowing employees to celebrate one of Islam's most significant festivals.
Work for federal government sectors will resume on Monday, June 9.
Eid Al Adha or the 'Feast of Sacrifice, is celebrated throughout the Muslim world as a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice everything for God.
The festival falls on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah, the twelfth and final month in the Islamic calendar.
Eid Al Adha is a time of celebration where Muslims gather for prayers at the mosque, visit family and friends, exchange gifts, and enjoy feasts. It's a time of charitable acts, remembrance, and community. However, the exact practices can vary from country to country.
The Day of Arafat is an important Islamic observance that takes place on the ninth of Dhu Al Hijjah, the day before Eid Al Adha. It marks the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, where Muslim pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat and the Plain of Arafat. It is from this site that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered one of his final sermons during the last year of his life.
For Muslims who are not participating in Hajj, Arafat Day is a significant day of fasting and spiritual reflection. Although fasting on this day is not obligatory, it is highly recommended for those not performing the pilgrimage.

Egypt, India, the UAE, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Bangladesh top the list, highlighting a preference for destinations where travellers can reunite with family and celebrate Eid in a spiritually familiar setting. European destinations such as Italy, Azerbaijan, the United Kingdom, Georgia, and Russia are also rising in popularity. These countries offer a compelling mix of cooler climates, scenic views, and historical richness. In Asia, Saudi travelers are increasingly drawn to Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Japan, which offer immersive nature escapes, wellness experiences, and family-friendly resorts. Domestic Travel Retains Its Appeal While international destinations are gaining prominence, domestic travel continues to play a significant role in Eid plans for Saudi citizens. Jeddah, Riyadh, Madinah, Dammam, and Abha remain among the most searched local destinations. Visits To Mecca Landmark Curtailed Over Intense Heat
The visit hours to an Islamic landmark near the Saudi holy city of Mecca have been shortened for months due to extreme heat. The Hira Cultural Centre has cut by five hours daily visits to the Cave of Hira, about 5 kilometres from Mecca, starting from last Wednesday until the commencement of the Islamic lunar month of Rabia I, corresponding to next August. The centre said that the competent authorities had issued directives to temporarily close the road leading to Mount Hira daily from 11am to 4pm because of high temperatures. The Cave of Hira is where the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) received the first revelation of the Holy Quran through the angel Gabriel. The cave is a major draw to Muslims visiting Saudi Arabia to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage or the Umrah (minor pilgrimage). The weather will be hot to extremely hot at the holy sites during the Hajj rites, the kingdom's meteorology office has forecast, amid diverse projects implemented by the kingdom to cool heat for the faithful. The Saudi National Centre of Meteorology expected that maximum temperatures at the holy sites in and around Mecca will range from 40 to 47 degrees Celsius, with an expected humidity level of 15% to 60%. Saudi Arabia has unveiled a string of projects in the run-up to this year's Hajj that starts later this week to beat the scorching temperatures and spare the pilgrims heat stress. The projects included expanding the use of cooled and rubberized roads designed to reduce the impact of heat.
