Antwerp Airport and Styl Aviation launch Benelux's first flight using Swift 100R fuel
Antwerp Airport hosts Benelux's first flight using Swift 100R, a sustainable, unleaded aviation fuel alternative to Avgas 100LL.
On Thursday, May 22, the first flight in the Benelux with Swift 100R, a new unleaded aircraft fuel recently approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for specific aircraft and engines, took place at Antwerp Airport. The flight was conducted in collaboration with Styl Aviation, EuroPilot Center, Check Six, and Antwerp Airport.
Swift 100R is the result of years of research by the American company Swift Fuels and was developed as a lead-free alternative to Avgas 100LL – a light leaded fuel still widely used in General Aviation today. Many general aviation aircraft currently use aviation gasoline (Avgas), a highly refined gasoline with a high octane rating necessary for high-performance engines. Larger aircraft such as airliners, turboprops, and business jets, however, operate on Jet A-1, a type of kerosene.
At Antwerp Airport, the use of Avgas 100LL is limited to a maximum of 1,000 movements per year. In pursuit of a more sustainable fuel supply, Antwerp Airport and fuel supplier BP will transition to UL91, an unleaded variant, from early June. Not all aircraft are compatible with UL91, making Swift 100R a potentially significant alternative in the future.
Swift 100R offers performance comparable to Avgas 100LL but without lead and consists of 10% renewable sources such as used oils, biomass, and animal fats. The fuel is currently certified for several aircraft types including the Cessna 172S and 172R. EuroPilot Center becomes the first flight training center in the Benelux to equip its aircraft with this fuel.
Eric Dumas, CEO of Antwerp Airport, said: 'As a regional airport, Antwerp Airport is committed to innovation and sustainable development within aviation. Moreover, we are a key pilot training hub in Belgium. The decision of EuroPilot Center, based at our airport, to be the first in the Benelux to transition to this new, more sustainable fuel is highly meaningful. This flight demonstrates that the transition to more sustainable aviation technologies is feasible with the right collaboration between government, producers, and users. We are proud to take this important step in General Aviation toether with our partners.'
Sven Schepers, Managing Director of Check Six, commented: 'The aviation sector has been actively developing future replacements for Avgas 100LL for some time. Aviation remains one of the safest modes of transportation precisely because all technologies, including fuels, undergo rigorous testing. Today's flight is significant as it marks the first flight in the Benelux using this recently approved fuel.'
'Styl Aviation, in collaboration with Check Six and Swift Fuels, is working to expedite the certification of Swift 100R for more aircraft types and engines. This partnership is crucial in further enabling the transition to sustainable fuels within General Aviation.' says Michael De Vestel & Pierre Hoebeke, Styl Aviation Management.

Air Serbia: More than 1.5m. passengers since the beginning of 2025
Air Serbia carried over 1.5 million passengers from January to May 2025, marking a 6% increase and expanding routes to new destinations. From 1 January to 31 May 2025, Air Serbia carried more than 1,529,000 passengers, marking a six percent increase compared to the same period last year. From its airports in Belgrade, Niš, and Kraljevo, the national airline operated nearly 1,000 more flights in the first five months of the year than in 2024. These strong results were achieved thanks to passengers' trust in the fastest-growing airline in the Western Balkans region. 'Although the summer season in aviation began on 31 March, its most active period is still ahead. However, the results achieved in May show that travel is gradually becoming less seasonal in nature, as evidenced by more than 392,000 passengers on our flights. Compared to May 2024, this May we offered 1.5 percent more seats and carried 5.4 percent more passengers. The upcoming month will be very dynamic. For the first time in Air Serbia's history, we will launch regular services to Mykonos, Sardinia, and Tbilisi, and reintroduce direct flights between Belgrade and Geneva. A broad network of destinations is one of our greatest assets, encouraging passengers to choose Air Serbia for their travels,' said Jiri Marek, CEO of the national airline of the Republic of Serbia. Air Serbia's most popular destinations in the region during May were Tivat and Podgorica, while in Western Europe, the most frequented routes were to Paris, Zurich, Barcelona, and Milan, and in the Euro-Mediterranean zone to Istanbul, Larnaca, and Athens.

Shannon Airport welcomes Ryanair's 4th based aircraft
Ryanair adds fourth aircraft at Shannon for Winter 2025/26, launching three new routes and boosting traffic by 20%, supporting 1,500+ local jobs. The Shannon Airport Group has welcomed Ryanair's announcement of the addition of a fourth based aircraft, three exciting new routes to Lapland, Madeira and Madrid, in addition to extra flights on six existing popular routes – Alicante, Edinburgh, Kraków, Lanzarote, Manchester, and Wrocław at Shannon Airport for Winter '25/'26. The announcement delivers 20% traffic growth, over 1.6m Ryanair passengers p.a. and offers customers in the Mid-West even more choice at Europe's lowest fares whilst also supporting over 1,500 local jobs. Welcoming the announcement, Mary Considine, CEO, The Shannon Airport Group said: 'We're delighted to welcome Ryanair's further expansion at Shannon Airport with the addition of a fourth based aircraft seeing three exciting new Winter '25 services from Shannon Airport to Madrid, Rovaniemi (Lapland), and Madeira, and increased frequencies on six existing routes. This expansion offers even greater choice for our passengers and strengthens Shannon's position as a key gateway to and from the West of Ireland. Ryanair's investment is a powerful endorsement of the potential of Shannon, a vote of confidence in the market here, and a testament to the progress we've made growing passenger numbers. We're very ambitious for the airport and the Group. We see a huge potential for growth and believe there is a real opportunity for Shannon Airport to lead the way in rebalancing the national landscape. A new aviation policy that recognises and supports the strategic importance of Shannon Airport to the country's economy is now required.' Ryanair's CCO, Jason McGuinness said: 'We are delighted to celebrate another milestone for our Shannon base this Winter as the Airport welcomes a 4th Ryanair based aircraft. This new 'Gamechanger' aircraft will deliver 100,000 (+20%) additional passengers and 3 new routes to Lapland, Madeira, and Madrid. In addition to these exciting new routes, Ryanair will also add extra flights on 6 popular Shannon routes – Alicante, Edinburgh, Kraków, Lanzarote, Manchester, and Wrocław. Ryanair's US$400m investment in the mid-west underpins our commitment to growing Ireland's regional airports evidenced by the 20 routes and more than 1.6m passengers we will deliver to Shannon Airport this year – driving inbound tourism to the region and supporting year-round international connectivity. Ryanair wants to continue to prioritise Shannon, Knock and Kerry for growth, however, the Irish Govt. needs to support these regional airports by expanding the scope of the Regional Airports Programme 2026-30 to at least 3m passenger p.a., which would allow regional airports to grow traffic without being penalised for doing so.' To celebrate Ryanair's fourth aircraft and 3 new routes at Shannon this Winter, the airline has launched a 2-day seat sale available only at Ryanair, Europe and Ireland's No.1 airline, Shannon Winter 25/26 schedule will deliver: 1 new 'Gamechanger' aircraft (4 aircraft in total) US$400m investment in Shannon 100,000 additional passengers (+20%) 20 routes, incl. new Lapland, Madeira & Madrid Increased freq. on 6 routes – Alicante, Edinburgh, Kraków, Lanzarote, Manchester & Wrocław Over 1,500 local jobs, incl. 350 highly paid pilot, cabin crew and engineer jobs Shannon traffic grows to over 1.6m passengers p.a.
