Pact Group and BlockTexx Partner on Fashion Recycling in Australia

Yahoo11-03-2025

Plastic recycler and packaging manufacturer Pact Group has teamed with textile recycling technology company BlockTexx to develop garment recycling operations for fashion brands and retailers in Australia.
The two Australia-based companies signed a memorandum of understanding to determine the feasibility of creating an end-to-end solution for discarded polyester and cotton-blend clothing. The operation would include collection, sorting and pre-processing used garments, then recycling poly-cotton, polyester and cotton pieces into raw materials. Those materials could then be converted into yarn for new clothing, non-food-grade plastic packaging or other applications.

According to Seamless, an Australian clothing stewardship initiative, the country's garment industry manufactures and imports around 1.4 billion items of new clothing each year. Most of those items are made with non-renewable materials, and more than half of those garments end up in landfills, accounting for 200,000 metric tons of waste annually.
Pact and BlockTexx each bring specialized expertise in recycling to the collaboration. Through its Retail Accessories division, Pact collects and redistributes used plastic hangers from retail stores to garment and accessory suppliers for reuse or recycling.
'Pact's existing presence in the global fashion supply chain through our Retail Accessories business enables us to expand our expertise across the garment supply chain beyond just hangers,' said Sanjay Dayal, CEO of Pact. 'This initiative with BlockTexx demonstrates our commitment to leading the circular economy through partnerships and collaboration to offer sustainable solutions for our customers.'
Polyester recycling has proved difficult for the fashion industry to take on for several reasons, one being that most clothing containing the material is blended with other fibers such as cotton, making it harder to separate the polyester for recycling. Often, polyester goes through chemical treatments and finishes that can also interfere with recycling.
BlocTexx developed a chemical recycling process for hard-to-recycle polyester and cotton blends, and currently recycles textiles at its facility near Brisbane for use in new clothing and agricultural applications, among other uses.
Through this partnership, the two companies will conduct a feasibility study to assess Australia's garment collection supply chain, the technical requirements necessary to meet BlockTexx's recycling process and the suitability of using the resulting recycled raw materials in Pact's packaging products and other applications. Pact and BlockTexx said they hope to complete that study this year.
'This project aims to accelerate the fashion industry's shift toward more sustainable products by combining Pact's capabilities in sustainable retail supply chains with BlockTexx's textile recycling innovations,' said Adrian Jones, co-founder of BlockTexx. 'This could enable businesses in the fashion and textiles sector to transition to more sustainable and circular practices and assist in the reduction of CO-2 emissions and prevent unwearable textiles from going to landfill, both here and overseas.'

Ex-Microsoft software engineer shares why tech workers should update their résumés every 6 to 9 months

Akshay Phadké knows what it takes to move up in the tech industry. The Seattle-based 31-year-old's résumé includes positions at startups and behemoths alike, including Ericsson, Microsoft, Vareto, and his current company, Webflow, where he is a senior software engineer. He's also secured final-round interviews at Meta, Amazon, Dropbox, and Yelp and job offers from 23andMe and Wayfair. Some people might think that once you've secured a job, you don't have to update your résumé — but that's not true, Phadké told Business Insider. Updates as a self-check-in He believes that current and aspiring tech industry employees, including software engineers like himself, should prioritize updating their résumés every six to nine months. "Engineers tend to be forward-looking and forget their accomplishments that are further in the past," he said. "Looking back regularly on your accomplishments helps you commit them to paper and retain all the context." Giving himself six to nine months between updates affords him enough time to accrue meaningful medium- to long-term accomplishments, Phadké said. He added that documenting these meaningful accomplishments can also serve as a regular "self-check-in." "If they exceed your expectations, then that should embolden you to talk to your manager about recognition, merit-based compensation increases, and promotions," Phadké explained. "If they fall short of what you were hoping, it's also a good forcing function to take action." Performance reviews can be fodder for résumé updates Formal performance reviews can serve as a gold mine for résumé data. "You're already tracking your achievements through the official company performance review process," Phadké said. "Once you've taken out any sensitive or proprietary information, it makes a lot of sense to utilize that information to update your résumé." Many of the key points of a performance review, such as how your work connects to an OKR or other performance metric, can become résumé updates to show your continuing contributions. He added that other factors to consider include reviews from collaborators, your manager's assessment, your performance relative to your peers, and how your work helped the company's overall performance. Keeping your résumé updated could help during a layoff "Even if your performance and your ratings are solid, there's a possibility of head count reduction if the company doesn't meet investor or shareholder expectations," Phadké said. "You may choose to look for another role, or you may not have a choice." Waiting until you need your résumé revamped, such as after a layoff, can create a stressful, panicked situation as you hunt through documentation under the gun of job-search deadline pressures. By making it routine to update your résumé after every performance review, you'll be ahead of the game. "Having a regularly updated résumé means one less thing you have to worry about," Phadké said. You're signaling your network An updated résumé — and in conjunction, LinkedIn profile — lets your professional network know what you've been up to and keeps you in the loop for opportunities. Phadké said keeping his LinkedIn profile in sync with his résumé has helped him stay on the radar of recruiters and hiring managers. In 2025, he's received an average of five messages a month from recruiters asking about his interest in roles they're looking to fill — and in April alone, he received nine recruiter messages. Even if you're not seriously looking for a job, Phadké says his approach to maintaining his résumé can help find interesting work and compensation.

More than half of critical business communication still flows through email, say global IT leaders

BERLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun 16, 2025-- Despite the proliferation of instant messaging, collaboration tools and AI assistants, almost half of global IT leaders (48%) say the majority of their internal and external communication still relies on direct email – more than any other channel. That's according to new research from Exclaimer, which finds email is being used not out of habit, but as a way to regain clarity and control in increasingly fragmented digital workplaces. Findings from Exclaimer's State of Business Email 2025 report – based on responses from over 4,000 IT leaders across the US, UK, Germany and Australia – reveal a growing challenge: today's communication stacks are bigger, but more siloed. Most tools serve specific teams or tasks rather than the business as a whole. Email remains the exception – trusted when communication must be structured, auditable and shared across functions. Email use is highest in complex, regulated environments, where records and accountability are critical. And in large enterprises (5,000+ employees), nearly half of respondents (49%) say users send 16+ emails per day – signaling emails' role in critical operational flow. Exclaimer calls this renewed focus 'Email Integrity': the idea that email, when properly managed, acts as the connective layer between tools, teams and territories. As AI content rises and real-time platforms multiply, Email Integrity is fast becoming a top IT priority – ensuring that what's said, sent and stored meets the standards modern businesses demand. The research points to three key trends shaping the future of workplace communication: #1 Communication stacks are growing, but few tools achieve organization-wide adoption Today's digital workplace runs on a broader mix of tools than ever before. From IM to AI, each platform brings speed, flexibility and task-specific value – but also added complexity. 89% of global IT leaders say video conferencing is pivotal to their digital operations, and 86% say the same of collaboration tools like Asana, Notion and These tools are essential to day-to-day work, but importance doesn't always mean consistency. They're not embedded across every team or use case – and adoption often reflects company size, sector and digital maturity. This patchy uptake creates new coordination challenges for IT teams. In many cases, organizations are leaning on more established channels like email to bridge gaps and ensure communication holds up at scale. #2 High-stakes communications still land in the inbox Email remains the default for messages that need to be logged, shared and acted on. 49% of global IT leaders say they use email for IT and security alerts, 36% for internal collaboration and 34% for client communication. These are use cases where clarity, consistency and accountability are key – and where real-time chat tools can fall short. The same pattern shows up by department. When asked which teams rely most heavily on email communication, global IT leaders pointed to IT (56%), followed by HR and internal comms (37%), customer success (31%) and finance (31%). These are the parts of the business most exposed to operational risk, regulatory pressure and reputational scrutiny – where auditability isn't optional, and Email Integrity becomes a particular necessity. #3 Instant messaging is rising – but it's not replacing email There's no question that IM is now a workplace essential: 89% of global IT leaders say it's important to their digital operations – the same percentage as email. But how these channels are used tells a different story. As the stack expands, so does intentionality. IT leaders are increasingly trying to define distinct roles for each tool. Email handles what must be seen, saved or shared. IM handles what must move fast. It's not about right-sizing the role of every platform in the stack. The priority now is ensuring each tool serves its purpose securely, consistently and without duplication. 'We've never had more ways to connect and collaborate at work, but email remains the backbone of business communication,' said Vicky Wills, Chief Technology Officer at Exclaimer. 'As new tools emerge, the challenge for IT leaders isn't just picking platforms – it's making sure they're implemented strategically. That's how we build communication environments that are clear, connected, and fit for the future.' -ENDS- Methodology: This report is based on original research commissioned by Exclaimer in partnership with Censuswide, aiming to understand how IT leaders are managing the evolution of business email. The study utilized a quantitative, cross-sectional survey design, supported by qualitative commentary from internal subject-matter experts. Fieldwork was conducted online between April 4 and April 16, 2025. A total of 4,009 IT professionals were surveyed across four core geographies: United Kingdom (1,003), United States (1,000), Germany (1,006) and Australia (1,000). Respondents were selected using a non-probability sampling approach, targeting individuals actively involved in managing email systems, communication policies or security/compliance infrastructure.
