Hardest Geezer Russ Cook finishes running length of New Zealand
A man who ran the entire length of Africa has completed his latest challenge – running the full length of New Zealand.Russ Cook, nicknamed Hardest Geezer, has run more than 1,553 miles (2,500km) in 73 days."We took a few dings on the way through, but made it out the other side," he said. The 28-year-old, from Worthing, West Sussex, completed his previous endurance challenge of running the entire length of Africa in April last year after 352 days.
He begun the latest challenge at Stirling Point in Bluff - the southern tip of New Zealand's South Island - and ran northbound to the finish line in Cape Rēinga, in Northland.Upon completion, he said: "Running the length of New Zealand - completed it mate."Massive thank you to the people of this country, your kindness, hospitality and mad scenery made this one unforgettable."We did it, boys. What a ride. Back to training."
During the challenge, Mr Cook faced setbacks including a shin muscle injury. But he also clocked his fastest ever 100km time, of 11 hours."New Zealand gave me a proper hiding at times, brutal trails, wild weather, and more than a few wobbly moments, but it's also one of the most welcoming, stunning places I've ever run through," he added."From the mountains to the coast, it's got some serious variety, and the people made it even better. I hope everyone that's after a bit of adventure, can come and experience it here."
He added that he had gone through seven pairs of shoes during the challenge, eaten hundreds of pies and climbed "a bucket load of mountains".Prior to the challenge, Mr Cook told the BBC he expected to climb the equivalent of approximately 10 Mount Everests in elevation across about 10 weeks of running.Mr Cook raised more than £1m for charity during his previous challenge in Africa, despite complications with visas, health scares, geopolitical issues and an armed robbery. The extreme challenge began at South Africa's most southerly point on 22 April 2023, and finished more than 10,190 miles (16,400km) north in Tunisia.

Bayern Munich vs Auckland City Club World Cup prediction, odds and betting offer
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich face Auckland City with the New Zealand-based looking to cause one of the biggest upsets in world football Safe to say this will be one of the biggest mismatches in the competition as Bayern Munich face Auckland in the Club World Cup as the two sides go head-to-head at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati. Bayern Munich are entering their first group stage match as the clear favourites, poised to take on Auckland City - who are a huge 200/1 odds to cause one of the biggest upsets in world football. Despite Auckland City's impressive record as Oceania's most successful team, having clinched 11 of the last 13 OFC Champions League titles, the difference in calibre between the two sides is stark. Auckland City operates as an amateur club, with players receiving a modest weekly stipend of about $90 to cover basic expenses. Given these circumstances, it's no surprise that there's a buzz of excitement within the Auckland squad as they gear up for what promises to be a unique and memorable occasion. As Bayern Munich prepare for this tournament, they've been bolstered by the return of Dayot Upamecano and Jamal Musiala to training following extended injury absences. The plan is to reintroduce both players gradually into competitive play during the Club World Cup. Additionally, Bayern have reinforced their lineup with two strategic early summer acquisitions: Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen and Tom Bischof from Hoffenheim. Both players are eligible and have been included in Bayern's squad for the Club World Cup, adding further depth to their already formidable team. Bayern Munich's Club World Cup rivals missing several players as they didn't have enough annual leave left from day jobs
BAYERN MUNICH's opening Club World Cup opponents are facing a major crisis after several of their players failed to get holidays to play in the tournament. The 2024/25 Bundesliga champions will face amateur New Zealand side Auckland City in Cincinnati on Sunday evening. 4 4 4 Auckland have been drawn in a group of death along with Bayern, Benfica and Boca Juniors. And their slim chances of making the last 16 have been rocked by several of their players not being able to travel to America due to their job requirements back home. Interim head coach Paul Posa said: "All of the players have other jobs alongside their football commitments. "However, they have an extraordinary dedication to their football outside of their working hours. "Players have had to take annual leave from their jobs. "Indeed, some of the players were unable to take time to attend both the OFC Champions League competition and the Club World Cup." Auckland's squad is made up of forklift drivers, a fizzy drink salesman, real estate agents and a warehouse manager. Reflecting on Auckland's group of death, Posa added: "It's quite possibly the toughest group we could have drawn. "We have two traditional European powerhouses in Bayern Munich and Benfica and Boca Juniors, who are also capable of going all the way." 4 The odds may be stacked against Auckland, but Posa, who is in temporary charge of the side due to Albert Riera's absence, has a history of Club World Cup upsets. During his first stint with the club, Posa guided Auckland to a fifth-placed finish in the 2009 Club World Cup. Chelsea finally discover Club World Cup opponents as former star, 38, assists dramatic winner to set up reunion Posa would love nothing more than to repeat his success, but is a realist when it comes to his side's chances of doing so. "It's nice to dream we could be that competitive again," he said. "However, we're realistic about the challenge."
