Gukesh on beating Magnus Carlsen at Norway Chess 2025: 99 out of 100 times, I would have lost
World Chess Champion D Gukesh admitted he had a 'lucky day' after he pulled off a remarkable comeback win against Magnus Carlsen in the sixth round of Norway Chess 2025 on Monday.
The Indian Grand Master weathered early pressure from Carlsen before pouncing on an endgame error to turn the game on its head and clinch three points.
'Well, there wasn't much I could do. It was just clearly lost. So I was just trying to make moves which were kind of tricky for him. I mean, 99 out of 100 times I would have lost. Yeah, just a lucky day,' pointed out Gukesh, after his first classical win over Carlsen.

Gukesh also highlighted the influence of pressure imparted by the clock on Carlsen.
'Luckily, he got into a time scramble. One thing I learned from this tournament is that time scrambles can get out of control,' said Gukesh.
Carlsen, who thumped the match desk in disbelief after the defeat, said, 'I don't know what happened.'
Earlier in the tournament, after his first-round victory over Gukesh, Carlsen had posted on X, 'When you come at the king, you best not miss.'

Rajat Patidar ends RCB's 18-year drought, wins IPL trophy in first season as captain
The long wait finally came to an end on Tuesday. For 18 years, the phrase 'Ee Sala Cup Namde' turned from a cheer to a mere statement of troll. They did come close to the elusive trophy thrice before, the last being in 2016, but it was in 2025 that the wait ended, with Rajat Patidar leading the side to their maiden title win in his first season as captain. RCB beat Punjab Kings by six runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Few expected Patidar to be in the race to become the next captain after RCB had ended ties with Faf du Plessis last October, before the mega auction. The general expectation and the media speculation largely hinted at Virat Kohli's return to captaincy since stepping down from the role in 2021. However, as Patidar surprisingly took over the role, many doubted his ability to lead the Indian star, not having led an IPL franchise before. However, the 32-year-old led RCB to their maiden IPL title, thus ending their long anticipation. Punjab Kings bowlers did everything they could to restrict Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 190 for nine. But their batters failed to get the job done. RCB managed to get over the line despite not having the best time with the bat. Virat Kohli top-scored with 43 off 35 balls while skipper Rajat Patidar couldn't build on a good start, managing 26 off 16 balls. Punjab Kings got off to a steady start with Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya looking in good touch. But Phil Salt pulled out a blinder to send back Arya while Krunal Pandya bowled a tight spell snapping up Prabhsimran and Josh Inglis. Captain Iyer suffered a rare failure when he was out for 1 as Romario Shepherd accounted for him. Shashank Singh tried with all his might but PBKS ultimately fell short of the mark as their wait for their first title continued. Earlier, Punjab Kings bowlers did more than a decent job to restrict Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a below par 190 for 9 in the IPL final. The players trained in the background with RCB being the first team to take the field for their warm-ups followed by their rivals PBKS soon after. The tournament was suspended for 10 days last month when the country's armed forces were executing Operation Sindoor — a military operation in response to Pakistan backed terrorists killing 26 Indian citizens in Kashmir' Pahalgam.
