The secondhand Switch 2 market is already a minefield of bricked consoles

Oliver Cragg / Android Authority
TL;DR Reports of bricked secondhand Switch 2 consoles are already coming in.
Nintendo has been banning consoles that use MiG Switch carts, with no recourse.
This has major implications for the used Switch 2 market going forward.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has only been out for a few weeks, but some lucky users have already found deals on secondhand consoles. One Reddit user reported finding such a deal, scoring a sweet $50 discount on the console, even though new consoles were sold out. Well, at least it seemed like a good deal, until an 'Error Code: 2124-4508' message appeared on the screen during setup at home.
This error code prevents the console from using any online Nintendo services, effectively bricking the device. It's Nintendo's nuclear option in the war against piracy and ToS violations, and the company hasn't been shy about using it.
For example, many users are reporting having their consoles bricked after attempting to use a MiG Switch cart. These carts can be used for piracy or to play backups of purchased games. Nintendo considers both use cases a violation of its ToS and doesn't differentiate between them when permanently bricking consoles.
Odds of secondhand Switch 2 consoles being bricked are uncomfortably high.
This creates a minefield for the secondhand Switch 2 market. There are currently no options to remove a console lock, so you must turn the console on and check that it can connect to Nintendo's servers before purchasing.
The user mentioned above managed to return the console and get a full refund, but if you buy a used Switch 2 from a private individual or, even worse, eBay, your odds of getting stuck with a bricked console are uncomfortably high. Unless you can test the console yourself, it's better to avoid secondhand Switch 2 consoles altogether.
The Nintendo Switch 2 retails for $449 for just the console, or $499 for the console and Mario Kart World. The game is a download code rather than a cart, though, so buying the bundle secondhand will likely leave you with a useless code, even if the console isn't bricked.

Early Prime Day deals include the 8BitDo Micro gamepad for only $17

Amazon Prime Days begins again on July 8, but early deals are already starting to trickle out. For instance, the 8BitDo Micro gamepad is on sale for just $17. This is a record-low price and represents a discount of 33 percent. However, the deal only applies to the green colorway. The Micro is a Bluetooth controller designed for the Nintendo Switch and Android devices, but it should also integrate with gadgets like the Steam Deck and iPhones. The company has released a firmware update for Switch 2 compatibility, so that should work too. We've tested other 8BitDo controllers with Nintendo's new console and came away impressed. This is a record-low price. $17 at Amazon This is an extremely tiny gamepad that still manages to pack in 16 buttons. It's a near-perfect way to play retro-tinged 2D platformers. Did we mention it's small? This thing will easily fit in a pocket or just about anywhere else. The company wasn't kidding around when they named it Micro. There's one caveat. The diminutive size of the 8BitDo Micro doesn't allow for actual joysticks and there's no haptic engine for rumble or anything like that. This isn't the best controller for brand-new AAA games. If you absolutely must have a pair of joysticks, for FPS titles and the like, the 8BitDo Lite SE is also on sale for $22. Follow @EngadgetDeals on X for the latest tech deals and buying advice .

Zen and the art of power washing.

If you're of the rare homeowner set and even if you're not there's something powerfully attractive about a power washer. You point it at something dirty, pull the trigger, and it's dirty no more (or if it's glass, it is simply no more.) It's such millenial catnip that the developers at FuturLab have made a massive hit out of the relatively simple home improvement machine with Power Wash Simulator and it's sequel Power Wash Simulator 2. Coming sometime this year, you can check out the PWS2 's new trailer below.

After a 142% Rise, Can SoFi Stock Keep Climbing?

Shares of SoFi Technologies (SOFI) have been on a remarkable run. Over the past year, the fintech company's stock has surged 142%, driven by strong revenue growth, expanding product adoption, and a business model increasingly focused on high-margin, capital-light segments. While the recent run in SoFi stock has raised valuation concerns, its recent financial performance suggests that the stock has more room to run. 3 ETFs with Dividend Yields of 12% or Higher for Your Income Portfolio Dear Tesla Stock Fans, Mark Your Calendars for June 30 Nvidia Is Quickly Approaching a New Record High. SoFi added 800,000 new members in the first quarter of 2025, bringing its total to 10.9 million, a 34% year-over-year increase. It also expanded its product suite, adding 1.2 million new products for a total of over 15.9 million. This surge in user engagement helped drive adjusted net revenue to a record $771 million, up 33% from the same period last year. It's SoFi's fastest revenue growth in more than a year. What's even more notable is the shift in its revenue mix. The fintech company has made a deliberate push into fee-based, non-lending businesses that require less capital and carry fewer risks. These segments are now playing a larger role in its growth story. Non-lending revenue hit $407 million in Q1, marking a 66% year-over-year increase, while fee-based revenue rose 67% to a record $315 million. SoFi's Financial Services division continues to deliver solid growth. Revenue more than doubled to $303 million in Q1. Per-product revenue also jumped, climbing from $59 to $88 in just one year—an almost 50% increase. One of the fastest-growing areas for SoFi is its Loan Platform Business (LPB), where it originates loans for third parties. In just under a year, LPB has achieved an annualized run rate of over $6 billion in originations and is now generating more than $380 million in high-margin, fee-based revenue. In Q1, LPB added $96 million in adjusted net revenue, a 44% jump from the prior quarter. Recent deals, including a $5 billion agreement with Blue Owl, a $2 billion extension with Fortress, and a $1.2 billion joint venture between Fortress and Edge Focus, are expected to fuel even faster growth. These LPB loans don't carry credit risk for SoFi, deepening customer relationships and supporting future cross-selling opportunities. Meanwhile, SoFi's Tech Platform remains a steady contributor. First-quarter revenue came in at $103 million, up 10% year-over-year, despite a slight drop in accounts linked to client diversification efforts. Profitability remains strong, and new client wins are expected to help offset recent churn, with projections for stronger performance into 2026. On the lending side, SoFi posted another solid quarter. Adjusted net revenue rose 27% to $412 million, with a 58% contribution margin. Total loan originations reached an all-time high of $7.2 billion, up 66% year-over-year. Personal loans led the way at $5.5 billion, including $1.6 billion from third-party originations via LPB. Student loan originations increased by 59%, and home loan originations were up by 54%. SoFi was also active in the capital markets, selling or transferring $3.1 billion in personal and home loans. These transactions helped SoFi realize gains through favorable sale pricing and premium servicing fees. Even delinquent loans were monetized effectively, with $90 million sold at improved recovery values. SoFi has continued to strengthen its balance sheet. Deposits now total $27.3 billion, providing the company with a stable and low-cost funding base. This expansion has helped lower its annual funding expenses by an estimated $515 million. Looking ahead, SoFi expects to add 2.8 million new members in 2025, a 28% jump year-over-year. As SoFi's member base expands and the ecosystem deepens, it will likely see higher activity per user, which will support its earnings. SoFi's top line is projected to increase by 24% to 27%. Moreover, with profitability improving across the board, the company is well-positioned to deliver sustainable long-term earnings. While the momentum in SoFi's business will likely sustain, Wall Street remains cautious. The consensus rating on the stock is currently 'Hold,' with analysts wary of SoFi's valuation after a significant rally over the past year. SoFi is delivering exceptional growth, driven by rapid member acquisition, strong revenue expansion, and a strategic shift toward capital-light, high-margin businesses. With projections of strong top-line growth and improving profitability, SoFi appears poised to sustain its upward trajectory.
